Simon, when I worked in the AV industry (last century cause I'm old) we used to get rack rails, and scrww them into a plywood box that we covered in black carpet (yes we made our own racks), point is the only metal was the rack rails and the clips that held the lid on the box. So I looked online and rack rails are still available, they are just strips of right angles or L profile metal with the holes at the right spacing and often power coated for corrosion resistance, buy a pair of rails (should be less than C$50) and mount them in your electrical cupboard on Old Dog, you may need some strips of wood to pack out from the cupboard walls to get the spacing between the rails correct, but I'm sure you can manage this. 👍

I saw the news about that storm. It was a doozie approaching our typical winter storms here on the Maine coast. We are in the middle of 3 day long 40-50 knot gale right now. Fortunately the wind is blowing offshore, so we don't have waves to worry about. Not that I am concerned about wind or waves since my boat is in the shed for the winter. Batteries have gotten crazy cheap in the last year. This summer I bought four 200Ah 24 volt batteries for $4K. That lets me run my entire house for almost four days in the winter and indefinitely in the summer. The limit is due to the small size of my solar array.

LOL I remember when you first came to Gabriola, talking about what you were going through your first winter with VERY limited resources Is very nice to see how far you have progressed

I picked up 2 AOLithium server rack in the spring for $3200 delivered to my door in NS and thought it was smoking deal. With the current sale its $2300. They have been running in our cabin in Newfoundland since June. We have 3900watts of panels into an EG4 3000EHV-48. I went with that all in one inverter for the high voltage solar input which means I don't need a combiner box. The SRNE inverters look to be nearly exactly the same but a few hundred dollars less. I'm very tempted to order another server rack battery and get an SRNE inverter for portable use. My parents are living at the cabin nearly full time. They had to run the generator for the first time in early November when there was a string of grey rainy days. As long as we get a sunny day once every 3 days they don't need to run the generator at all.

Do you happen to have a weight rating on that rack? If it's a 500lb capacity rack you might get close to its limit. If you're putting it on a boat, the rocking back and forth will be something it wasn't designed for, you might have to reinforce it around the corners. At any rate, thanks for uploading the video!

Can you either; 1) add the review of the battery into the title or 2) make a seperate video of the review of the battery; I want you to get all the people that are looking for reviews of a server rack battery... I'm loving the new non LUTs videos, you'll be at 100k subscribers next year, I'm calling it now.

Hey Simon. Can spray the inside of those battery circuit boards with conformal coating? That may help in longevity?
@Cam.Klingon
@Cam.Klingon Ай бұрын
conformal coating only does so much, he'd be better off with a watertight container and place all the batteries, electronics, etc in there.
