I just heard you referred to as a pirate. Is that because of your independence and the way you have lived as an independent nomad? BTW I was so excited about seeing Old Dog out in the open water but the definition can’t wait to watch the passion shift to Peri. I found you through magic carpet, fount sailor Barry through you. . . All of you have spurred me to find my place in the Great Lakes marine life.

The winter wonderland shots were amazing. Thanks for taking us along to the boat show so we don't have to do all the leg work. Just the fact and process of content creation is artistry in and of its self, the editing time alone is daunting let alone all the shot blocking and story boarding. Thanks for all you. do.

If you will have a simple diesel heating stove like the Dickinson Antarctic, you can plumb your engine fuel return line into a small tank (40 - 60 gal) that is 6" or so higher than the heater and you can gravity feed the diesel to the Dickinson heater and no fuel pump for the heater is necessary. We've had this system on our boat for over 40 years, and it is the best piece of kit we have - absolutely no maintenance, and that's saying something for a boat. You and your channel are getting more interesting for me.
@findingsimon6 күн бұрын
that's amazing! My system has to live pretty high up to keep the exhaust short enough to burn cleanly. Plus its a hydronic Espar type, so it needs a pump. I won't be able to make the most of gravity feed for that I think

This might be a dumb take but how about converting Old Dog to your canvas shop once you get Peri ship shape. You could strip it down a bit and you should have enough solar to run a the shop on the ship. Plus you cut out the overhead of the shop on land. This way you never have to mix business(canvas) with pleasure(Peri)
@findingsimon6 күн бұрын
I'm straying away from the shop to be honest with ya. It has never paid very well and it eats up so much time. Last year I made as much diving and youtubing as I did running a business that ate up 80% of my time. I'm putting it on the back burner until I can reshape it into something that works better for me.

Watching every episode! You’re killing it. Progress, but man its been cold, that heaters putting in work. I picked up my dad a usb heated vest for working in his garage and you can just swap battery banks but they last hours keeping your core warm if all that labour isnt.

Something to consider as you build your system: One time, I owned/lived on an old mahogany plank Grand Banks Trawler. Tanks were a mess when I bought her. Did what you are doing. I ended up putting in a day tank w/ fuel polishing system (pump, 2 raycors, filter) between main tank and small tank. You fill your day tank through the polisher. (polisher also has a Y valve so you can choose to retur clean fuel to main tank for cleaning that as well) Dirty fuel/filter issues will inevitably come up with a diesel and almost always at the worst time. There'll be no issues- then- first time it happens is under power in a seaway, heavy weather stirs the sludge up from the bottom and your engine dies with dirty filter. Having a small, easy to maintain/clean day tank with all its fuel having been polished = peace of mind and has the bonus of easily monitoring fuel consumption. I used a Gulf Coast filter.... proven/been used working boats for a looong time, works great and uses a filter you can get anywhere in the world for super cheap- a roll of toilet paper. (Gulf Coast Jr uses toilet paper, their larger filter uses a standard roll of paper towels. Can present a conundrum if you run low on paper. Do I wipe my ass or clean my fuel? Keep going! Loving your channel brother.
@findingsimon8 күн бұрын
That is a fantastic idea and definitely something I'll think about. I have her setup with parallel filtration so I can hot swap from one to the other while underway. My experience working for Ctow has shown me the sludge clogged filters every spring. Most of the spring tows are clogged lines.
@ricopo35228 күн бұрын
@@findingsimon Fuel polishing definitely becomes essential as you get off the beaten path- many parts of the world, fuel quality is dicey at best. Heck yeah- C-tow perfect education, you would have seen it all- the what to do's and what not to do's- every pitfall imaginable.
