My mom died this summer. My kids are 5, 3, and 1.5. We had some great books for them about death and we talked about it long before it happened. They helped us dig a hole and bury her ashes beneath a flowering crab tree where she asked to be buried. I hope it was therapeutic for them. Mostly they just seemed to enjoy the beautiful day and they now think “Nanny is a tree”. We obviously still have some work to do explaining it. But they aren’t afraid of what happened. And it was very special for me that they were there and helped because she loved them so much.

This sort of reminds me of when my grandma was dying and she planned her own funeral. She was so open about picking out her urn, what she wanted read at the mass, and where the reception was. Most of the family didn't want her to talk about it and was clearly uncomfortable because it made them sad to think about her actually dying. I think it was lovely how comfortable she was and how she ended up steering my grandfather in to thinking about his mortality as well.

People who do this have done 90% of the work. My friend's uncle died a couple years ago, and he was a big John Deere fan and joked that he wanted to be buried in a John Deere casket. His death was sudden, and the funeral director said that such a thing was available but it would cost $2,000 extra to have it custom-painted and express delivered, and his widow said it would be worth it. My friend said his funeral ended up being a big party, which was what he would have wanted.

We did this with my grandma. I worked at a church at the time so they let me have the memorial service there, and the pastor met with my grandma to plan which hymns she wanted sung, etc. We had tried reaching out to the local church of the denomination my grandma belonged to, but she didn't like them, so we went with my employer. Funeral/memorial service planning was something I had seen the pastor do with others, so I had no problem bringing it up. My grandma had long before joined the Neptune Society, so that was taken care of. The only thing that didn't get definitively decided was what to do with her ashes, so allegedly my aunt still has them.

I am going through this right now with my 92 year old grandmother. She had her priest come over the other day to talk to her about her funeral. A Theory on the Fish Storyline: Reality shows plan production around certain ideas and events, but a lot of the "writing" is done after filming and through editing. It's likely (though I have no way to confirm) that the fish stuff happened at a completely different time from the funeral planning, but it fit the theme of the episode so they mashed those events together. The audience wouldn't question this unless they know how "reality" shows are produced.

Fish can live a long time sometimes. Waiting for one to do die may or may not work out. Not too practical or reliable for a show with so much money being made. Alternatively, just add salt to speed up the process. That would have been a lot easier and more practical, except for the fish. It would really suck for the fish. Kind of like being gassed with acidic air that burns your skin and lungs, or gills as the case may be.
@katberberich87903 жыл бұрын
@@dayaautum6983 wouldn’t take long for that fish to die in the set up they had it in. It was entirely wrong. No fish should be in a fish bowl but that kind of fish needs a filter, large space, plants, and I think it’s a schooling fish as well. I also doubt that they did proper water conditioning and transitioning. Fish could have died immediately from improper transitioning into bad water. The people who sold them that fish at that store should nit have sold it to them with that set up. I wouldn’t have.

Especially with how big they can get. A SINGLE Goldfish shouldn’t be in anything smaller than 20gallons, it’s also best to have a filter as they are “dirty” fish. They thrive in colder temperatures. Also bettas shouldn’t be in anything smaller than 5 gallons, although I like to keep them in tanks no smaller than 10 gallons. They also NEED a heater as they suffer in temperatures below 75/80*. Colder water will stress the fish and weaken the immune system. Also great to have a filter, even some plants. Just because you can doesn’t mean you should.

My mom and dad were paranoid and thought I was crazy when I used to bring up the subject of death and purchasing burial grounds. So I went ahead and bought two for them, and as they began to become ill, they'd speak about finding a place to rest, and when I told them I had purchased their lots, they were so happy! Then I moved on to the next phase (for me, since I was a poor Bio student at the time), and started purchasing their arrangements and I left the caskets out of the contract because I figured my siblings would want to have something to do with the planning. Well, of course, one of the most expensive caskets was selected, and the other one not as much. But thank God 2 of the 3 of us kept our word and finished paying for those two items. Some people make a big deal about a burial, but when it comes to pulling out the greens, everyone goes into hiding. It's a shame, but even in the best of families, it takes place. I don't like nothing about the Kardashians because they think they're so pretty, eternal, wealthy, and that they can get anything they wish for. But it was interesting to hear how different from us poor folks think. I'm surprised they each didn't want a monument with a water fountain, or something similar to the Trevi Fountain. These people are usually very egocentric, and it goes with their idea that they are eternal. I certainly would hate being selfish as any of them.

I’ve been watching this channel for awhile now. It has helped me create my funeral plans and also helped me keep a logical and level head when going through with my fathers funeral last month. Every time I think about how he is buried next to his brother and how he is wearing his signature black Nike tracksuit, it brings my heart a little joy. Loss is devastating on a deep psychological level, but death itself doesn’t need to be.

I had no idea how large gold fish could grow, until my parents put my goldfish in their fishpond after I moved away. I should have warned them that it's 3 fish friends had all died and that I suspected the surviving fish murdered them. It grew until it was no longer the smallest fish. Then the smallest fish - a perfectly healthy koi - died. I'm now certain that the only reason that there haven't been more deaths is that it's physically impossible for the gold fish to get any bigger.
