Fine line is one of the most beautifully written songs I’ve ever heard, it’s just so vulnerable and honest. It literally means that there is a fine line between happiness and sadness. I interpret the line “put a price on emotion I’m looking for something to buy” as a metaphor, meaning he’s so emotionally drained and struggling to feel emotion that he will literally do anything just to feel something. To me “You sunshine you temptress” means that this person can be very pure but also very deceiving. The line “my hands at risk I fold” resonates with me so much. It’s a metaphor referencing to poker. When you don’t have any moves left you fold, or in other words you give up before you lose anything. What I think he means here is that no matter how much he loves someone he folds, because he can’t bare to feel the pain of losing them. He loves this person so much but he is too scared to get hurt so he feels that folding (leaving) is the only option. To me “Spreading you open is the only way of knowing you” means that the only way he feels like he can be vulnerable or close with this person is through sex. Towards the ends of the song he says “we’ll be alright” and that’s when the trumpets and horns come into play. It’s almost like the sunlight breaking through after the storm. That despite the darkness it’s going to be okay.

this song is like the anthem of despair and hope, when the night is the darkest before the dawn. it speaks of parting and longing, aching for somebody like a flower aches for spring, like the stars ache for the sun in the morning sky. it speaks of seeing all the memories you had float away into empty space, and it hurts so bad, but it feels so good to let go. you're no longer a prisoner of your own self, and even though you're scared, you're vulnerable, you still dare to hope. it's a farewell and an encounter, death and rebirth all in one. a song to remember, a true masterpiece

This song is like giving myself a hug and saying "It's all going to be okay." This is my happy and sad song. The anthem to my life. It's when everything is crumbling and falling apart but then you just remember that this pain is temporary and you just need to let that negative shit go. This song (despite harry singing about a romantic relationship) makes me think of my dad (and just the shit show that is my life in general). More specifically the three lines, "You've got my devotion, but man, I can hate you sometimes. I don't want to fight you." I cry every time I listen to this song. Bless you Harry for being the beautiful person you are, inside and out.

the first time i listened to the album i just immediately started sobbing when i got to this song like,, i just knew it would be amazing. since i've heard it it has always been my favorite, i cry everytime i listen to it. there's just something about it that makes me so emotional but so happy at the same time. “we'll be alright” might be a simple lyric but it's so so meaningful

this song to me is the saddest song on the album a en has such a huge meaning. i’ve been looking forward to see harry perform it in paris because i was supposed to go to that show with my best friend/soulmate. the concert got annulled because of coronavirus. and i don’t even want to complain, some because are actually dying because of that virus so.. please stay safe everyone. we already lost too many people due to covid 19. you are important. you matter. you are beautiful. and don’t ever forget : we’ll be alright we’ll be a fine line. i love every single one of you reading this, you’ll be okay ❤️
