Positive reinforcement, modeling, breathing and other calming techniques. Music. Art. Distraction Going to a safe space when overwhelmed. Redirecting his energy to positive activities and behavior.

Find out what interests your son and encourage those interests. Science experiments,art language arts, history, interesting stories or facts that may pique his interest and result in exploring deeper on what interests him. Books. A wide variety of books. I read to my students a book about different kinds of bridges and showed them different kinds of bridges from around the world. Foot bridges, suspension bridges, bridges made in Roman times. What materials were used. I brought out a lot of craft sticks, yarn, and glue and invited the students to make their own bridge . Clay, Play-Doh, or sand mixed with glue could also have been used. The possibilities are endless.

Be patient and encouraging. Model calming techniques. Incorporate art, science experiments, history, and storytelling. Be aware of sensory overload and the need for a safe quiet space at times. Music helps, so does reading. Hands on science experiments. Art. There needs to be a balance between being understimulated and overstimulated and an awareness of options of what to do . Ex. Before reaching the point of wanting to strike out at someone what can you do and what can he do to deescalate the situation.
