50 years of bee keeping does not make one stupid. Thank you for all of your advice your videos are amazing. I have started pointing bee people I know to them because they are so informative and even bee keepers who have been doing this for many years are learning tricks from you Don Thanks again

Don, these videos are great. I try to always make videos of my bee work as a way of giving back to the KZbin community, as I have learned so much here. Not only are opinions like A-holes, but it's usually A-holes that have the most obnoxious opinions :) Thanks for the detailed videos. I am getting ready to build some queen castles myself!

I made these a few years ago. I wanted to get the queens going, but I ran into super shortages due to swarm pick ups. So, I did what you say in the video. Take the dividers out and now use them as supers. Great video, as always.

Don I really enjoy your vids and appreciate the time you take to make them and as a beekeeper in the past and now getting back into it, I haven't seen anything 'stupid or dumb' that you have said. people don't realize that 50 yrs of experience teaches more than any school or book can ! You just keep up. If that's what they believe who cares , right !

Hi Don these are a good idea. I am definitely going to give a Queen Castle a go. I would be grateful if you could follow up with a Queen Castle in use, so that I and other followers can see your creation as designed being used. Great keep up the good work

I use several queen castles to start nucs. After finding and isolating the queen from the hive i will split I take a frame of eggs and one of mature brood. each section will raise its own queen. While inefficient it does make possible a quick way to make queen right increases.

I built one but adjusted the plans. In stead of four sections of two I have three sections of three. I filled it with brood, honey, and a capped queen cell in each. I am suppose to check back in a month to see if a queen is present and laying?

Hi Don. Like Chrissv, I wonder if you should also be drilling holes for an escape from the two center compartments? Perhaps the holes on the short edges of compartments 1 and 4 were supposed to be for 2 and 3?

i like this idea : ) it's like the double nuc idea that mike palmer uses, i built one of those and have 2 5 frame nucs in double deeps they keep each other warm and I also have an open honey super on the top of them and they don't fight at all , they share the honey .
@troypierce39677 жыл бұрын

With a queen castle the outer sections are open to the wide sides the 2 inner sections are open one to each end this allows each section to have its own entrance.
@nhbeekeeper586712 жыл бұрын
I agree, the holes for 2 and 3 are lined up for 1 and 4 giving 1 and 4 two entrances and leaving 2 and three without them. At least it appears that way on the video.

when making you are trying to make queens what all do you want to do to ensure they are growing queens?
@imbud12 жыл бұрын
The way the holes are drilled, bee's can't get to cell 2 or 3. I think the holes drilled on the ends of the box should be moved over to allow entrance to the center cells (2 & 3).

FBM I am a bit confused. In QC Part 1 you did a 3/4 rabbit to ensure bee clearance over the topbars. In QC Part2 it appears the 4 section covers were laying on top of the topbars, is that OK? What is the make-up of the two frames to use in each section? One will be a brood frame with queen cell, #2 is ? empty comb, honey/pollen, brood? Procedure started once nectar flow is on I assume?

GLAD I SAW THIS - I LIKE IT
@chrissv12 жыл бұрын
Don, I like the queen castle. But I am confused about the entrance holes. It looks like you don't have any entrance holes for the center two sections - the holes on the "end" of the queen castle hit the outer sections, which are duplicated by the holes on the "sides." Am I wrong?

Long Boxes is the way to go, I wish i seen them earlier! So many things can do in them, and it uses standard frames. Can do it all in one, Like Rearing, Queen castles, Swarms ect Got 4 ~ 4 footers built for next yr and will try 8 footers too Yes they got SHB OIL TRAPS This should give me back things to grow more. CHEERS

@chrissv12 жыл бұрын
If you look at 0:25, it sure looks like that hole hits the same compartment as the hole on the "side". Same for 0:36 - it looks too close to the outer edge. It needs to be moved over more toward the center to hit compartment "2." I know he explains it correctly; the design he built looks to be incorrect, though.

If people are saying you are stupid, they are wrong. 50 or so years of experience is better than any collage course on the planet! I may be stupid though, as I am just getting started into beekeeping, I imagine you will move the two frames to an empty hive and start a new colony. However, how do you ensure that the queen goes with the frames?
