A big thing with finesse jigs, the trailer make a huge impact with regard to fall rate. Like said in other comments, some use the finesse jigs with a TRD or other small stick bait. On the flip side a Paca chuck will fall slow but, hopping it off of the bottom, you get a slow flutter. Both methods have their pros.

Went and picked up my first glide/s waiver style bait called the jackall gantia 180. Followed some of y’all’s tips and went out on a cold front day after it had rained the day before and caught an 8 right off the bank and a 3 1/2 just after that having twitched it right next to a piece of cover. Awesome little bait and I’m a firm believer in this style of bait now having caught many more smaller fish the rest of the day. Cheers from Georgia!

I always considered a finesse jig anything under 1/4 ounce, hair jigs, bitsy bugs. I took uncle josh pork grubs, took a koosh ball apart and with a big sewing needle used pieces of the koosh ball rubber to add legs to the grubs.

This video just in time. I've been throwing around a big football for a while. You don't get very many bites but when you do there usually good. But for a club guy getting 5 keepers in the boat goes a long way.

Nothing like a limit in the livewell early! except for a limit of big ones in the livewell early! I would rather have to worry about upgrading than finding the fish to fill a limit.
@chasingthefish90424 жыл бұрын
Finesse jig/texas rig until you have a full limit then pull out the bigger baits to upgrade works pretty well for me.

Lost a really good bass because of something you mentioned, was fishing that Keitech jig (football you showed, not the stronger casting model) with a tiny Paca chunk and using a 7'MH with 16lb Sunline FC Sniper. Seemed right because of the weight, could still cast a mile, had a solid 5+ maybe 6 pound largemouth on; got anxious because he kept making runs at the boat, torqued down on the fish and the line went limp almost instantly... Was worried I had my first breakoff during a fight and left a bait in a fish, but reeled in the lure to notice my hook went from a "J" shape to past an "L" shape... A good old Medium powered casting rod is all those amazing jigs need, don't push them though, sharp hooks, good build, but lacking shank and bend strength...

Try a Santone Lures "Texas Finesse Jig". Good gammi hook, great colors, and best of all comes 2 to a pack. Absolutely LOVE me some Dirty Jigs, but play it smart with this one! Try a Zoom ultravibe Speed craw on that or a chigger craw 3 inch. DYNAMITE!

I know you like the Maxima, it is very strong [way over tests its rating] but it is also very large diameter and stiff. I have been using the Sufix Siege for leader and it is really tough and strong without being so stiff. Great video as usual.
@buddymccormack86686 жыл бұрын
I like Sufix Siege also, it's been my mono choice for a couple years now, very strong stuff
@mcaetano20006 жыл бұрын
Don't compare different lines by pound test: that's a huge mistake! Compare them by line diameter! Try two different lines of the same diameter and then see which one is stronger and which one has the characteristics you want. P-Line CXX is one of the strongest lines for a given diameter, but it has a lot of memory (not good on spinning reels). For a strong line without much memory you have Sufix Elite. I think Sufix Siege is very strong too, but a bit more stiff than the Elite. The Siege will have a bit more sensitivity though.
@bassmatters98496 жыл бұрын
Elite is the best in my opinion.

dont be afraid to throw a big body trailer on a finesse or lightweight jig. Good for lethargic fish on calm days. Can get the fall rate almost as slow as a weightless senko, but your still targeting bigger fish

there is a fairly small river near me. there are largemouth in it and i catch them all the time but almost exclusively on soft plastics. they don't hit anything else. they hide behind rocks and near laydowns. there isn't grass or any other cover. they can be hard to catch too. the bite will turn off and it seems nothing will work. i was there yesterday just throwing soft plastics around. it was dead. i looked in my back pack saw a finesse jig (5/16 oz). i tied it on my size 25 spinning reel with a 6-6 medium rod. first cast i got bit. at first i thought i was hung on a rock then the drag was taking off so i knew it was a fish. it was so heavy on that spinning reel setup. eventually i get it about 10 feet in front of me (i'm on the shore). the fish jumps, shakes his head and out came the jig. sigh, it was a beast and was probably my PB for that particular river. the jig got me bit when nothing else would.

Have a suggestion on rods for those 3.8 & 4.8 Keitechs on a 1/4-3/4 head? Maybe a dedicated vid on gear and comparable baits on that size...? It seems the "go-to" swim bait range, but it's often overlooked for the bigger swim baits.
@ScuffedEngineer6 жыл бұрын
A MH-XH rod depending on the manufacturer. On their smallmouth trip last year Tim was using a NRX 895 for 1/4oz head and 4.8. If you have a few rods just rig the keitechs up and tie them on and just see what feels right.

Okay, I had this exact thing happened to me. I'm on the bank above a culvert, and I can see a big bass right on the bank. I threw a jig with a sweet beaver green pumpkin trailer in PB&J, and it came to the bank when it landed on the bottom and stared at it I hopped it and it spooked it. What should I have done? Should I have let it sit? It also swam right over to my Junebug color stick bait beforehand. I think this is very important, and you would really be helping me out. Just 2 weeks ago.
