This wasn't a great read. The narration was ok but this is a brilliant short story and this abridged version was way too abridged and did the novella a great disservice. In the book the characterization of Midge was brilliant and the parallels DdM draws with the ugly old tree was spot on. The slow build up of the protagonist's aversion to the tree was also wonderfully crafted. The lady who read the Midge part in this ebook was way too chipper . The book Midge was whiny, dour, martyred and very manipulative.

Very unpleasant story. I felt the same way about "The Alibi " I may not care for this author.
