@@liljuz1981 If you're looking to boost one the 2.4L is the easier option in my opinion. With some fabrication a Cobalt supercharger will bolt right up to the engine. The problem from there is the stock auto trans can't hold power well. Someone told me the max horsepower would be about what the V6 puts out. I was going to add a supercharger to my 2.4L and my buddy suggested using the manual trans from a pontiac G6. The other option is to just do a full LSJ/LNF swap. Not a money friendly car to build but there are some options. A few people on the Malibu forums will help but most of the time you'll be told "jUsT GeT tHe V6 aNd Be dOnE". Have only ever seen ONE boosted 2.4L 2008 malibu and the car was totaled not long after.

@AdzPoxu Yeah I thought about going that route too but it just seems like less of a hassle to trade in the ecotec for the six cylinder. If you're really in love with the 7th gen go for it.

I'm making my 04 malibu into something badass too. I love it so much and after 6 months of owning it I have 2 grand saved. Getting everything I need to turbo it, new fuel system and I'm gonna put a whole new exhaust on it. it's already got a rebuilt transmission, proper cold air intake, cat and muffler delete and dyno tune. Not slow by any means, can't wait till it's a proper sleeper.

I wish I had this model However I have the 2006 Chevy Malibu SS Hatchback 3.9L. Did similar work on mine except I got a glass pack in place of the resonator, Muffler delete with straight pipe. Like the video prior to this one. I love it!

This guys is not bad and I gove props to anyone who does something different. Truth be told, these are underrated platforms that can be a great inexpensive way to have a relatively fast, fun, and reasonable daily driver. My Friend tim has a 2010 Malibu V6 that he has tastefully modified. went with an OEM plus approach and it actually does get a loy of looks and likes. If I'm honest, this channel should check his out.

I just brought my 2010 3.6 Malibu to Dyno days just for pulls. I got 208hp and 216 torque to the wheels. All it has now it a real cold air run into the lower front bumper and cat back magnaflow exhaust. I'm going for a tune and a transmission tune with rev matching. Should be fun

Honesty I'm in love with the 60's malibu. I'm not a big fan of these models since they force us to really look into tuning them and modding the body of them. I still plan on doing work on with my malibu for better performance and maybe cutting some of the roundness out.

i have an older gen 06 Malibu with a 3.5, ive heard of guys changing the 3.5 for the impalas 3.9 or 3.8. ive always wanted to do that, ive had many cars of these GM platforms and theyre good as hell and reliable. I would like to swap the drive train from a newer impala but still same chassis generation, theyre basically the same thing. any one know if thats possible? would like guidance, thanks

I always wondered if anyone was trying to mod the 3.6 Malibus. Idk why they get the "rental car" stigma so bad. I think they look pretty good, especially with the exaggerated wheel arches. Good on ya my friend! People give me shit for my Monte Carlo you see in my profile pic, but it's been my baby since I got it back in high school. It's a pretty good track car already and it's still N/A for now : )

As an engineer and owner of an 08 Malibu, I'm interested in this topic. However, this doesn't go quite far enough for me. I have the 2.4L I4. It's admirable that this non-performance I4 engine was rated for 160+HP. But I want a challenge. I'm just starting to look at the inherent deficiencies of the platform, but I'd love to get a V8 into it some day. I just don't know if it's possible. Some may say it's a waste of money, but it's more the engineering challenge that draws me in. The only thing that could scrap the whole idea is if there are issues with the platform that can not be engineered out and that I don't have to have specialty parts manufactured (can't afford to have on-of-a-kind parts made, even if I can design them). We'll see where it goes.

This. I own a 2.4l 2011 and have been researching engine swaps for a few months now. A good friend of mine who is a mechanic says a v8 swap is possible BUT most of the swap and RWD conversion involves custom made parts. Not to mention the engine bay is extremely cramped as it is so it definitely limits swap options unless you're willing to go the route of redoing the entire engine bay. In a nutshell it's going to cost a bit of money but driving a sleeper malibu v8 RWD conversion would be sweet. If I had the money I'd do it but i'm looking into other cars at the moment.

Driving an LT eco since 2008. So far besides usual oil, tires, batteries, only had to change the starter and the cat was recalled, other than that nothing big. I'm waiting for it to throw a major issue to give me a reason to get something new. All my friends and family went thru a couple of cars in the mean time, but I'm cheap and stubborn, so I guess I'm just gonna be driving this. At 170k, lets see if I can hit 200k.

My attention so far this winter has been prepping my Porsche and my buddies Porsche for the track this season! The malibu needs a bit of body work and will be on new wheels and coils (all cost far too much)

+Ayannah ♥ I'm sorry, but no, this would not "fly" at all. An 08 malibu weighs roughl 3700 lbs and if you knew cars at all, you would know that's a considerable amount of weight when comparing the power it makes. A supercharger isn't going to make this thing much faster. Maybe break into the 300hp range. Which, for an almost 3700 lb car, is NOT fast by any means. These things are already underpowered from the factory. Adding a supercharger or turbo would put it where GM should have made it, had they been aiming for this family sedan to be a sports car.

To call a V6 an SS is kind of silly. I have a 3.6l V6 VVT with direct injection Impala and get 300 HP with not enhancements. I give him props for being different.

The gen before this one had an SS with a 3.5l and it was not much to look at IMO. It was my version of what the factory may have dont IF they made an SS for the gen i had. And the 3.6 DI is dope. I walked on a S60R in my rental impala lol. Times are changing fast! thank you Tony

they never have as far as i know. I put coils on it and different wheels and another exhaust and went catless. then traded it in for a Cadillac ATS. i still miss how she looked but the ATS is a much better platform. People hate but eh fuck em.

+Raymond Benton i have done everything on this custom. I have found that some 3,6 direct injected bottom end parts are interchangeable and i have found cams for it too. Other than that it is a tune and an exhaust. and some springs. OEM+ kinda thing.

The exhaust sound may not match the car but it only takes a second or two to match the sound to the car.

The 2008-12 Chevrolet Malibu will be the fun car to drive I've would add a 1inch lower suspension like struts springs and shocks add K&N air filter any exhaust system and put 17 inch custom wheels like torque thrust wheels add stripes just like the Chevrolet Chevelle SS back in the 70s front wheel drive cars can be street rods not as fast as the rear wheel drive cars but they can be fun to drive
