I'm really sorry to hear you face more amputations. Praying that OT can help you develop a way to allow you to continue to crochet, because your work is lovely! You have such a positive demeanor through all this, which is amazing. God bless you. Please try occupational therapy (OT) after surgery. I used to work on a pediatric orthopedic unit, and they can really help after a surgery like this.

My record is 15 times, when I went for a chemically induced stress test. It was rough. They told me to stop being so nice about it, LOL. I asked if they got into medicine to hurt people, they said no. I said, what good would it do to get angry about it, it would stress you out more & I know you're not doing it on purpose. Prayers for you. Remember that story I told you about my mama's patient who could crochet w/ one hand. That's the truth. It happened in Colfax, LA. I know it's a phenomenal challenge, but you don't have to give up crocheting. I don't underestimate the challenge. I ain't just whistlin' Dixie. I've recently lost my voice when I taught and trained and even testifieId as an expert witness. I was on Good Morning, Cenla, a lot. It's hard not talking, but I'm channeling my need to speak into my writing. More prayers for you.

Kayla, you have been and are in my prayers. It's a blessing that you're getting in for surgery so fast, because it's more likely you'll save part of your finger. At the least it'll do away with months of the very painful process of trying remedies that haven't ever worked. You should definitely inquire about prosthetics. You might find something that's very useful to you. If you can't stand a full-time prosthetic, and if you have a university in your state that is big on engineering, you could get some students to design you a small prosthetic for your hand to help you crochet. They can print parts out on a machine at the school, and they'd *really* benefit from credit for the project. You could wear it only when you crochet. It could lay across the palm of your hand, so it wouldn't bother the more sensitive part of your hand. Hang in there, Kayla. The trials of this world have an expiration date.

Hi Kayla, you will be fine as you have the same can-do attitude as my son Luke, he lost all the fingers on his hand in a work accident when he was 19. He uses his thumb and part of his hand where his little finger was to grip things. Luke is 40 now and doing fine. I will be thinking of you on Wednesday. I'm a retired RN and know that those blanket warmers are wonderful things. Yes they do look like refrigerators. One of the things they can do to help with starting your IV is to wrap your arm in one of those warm blankets. I was on the IV team for a few years before retiring and I used warm blankets all the time and they worked wonders. Now those that are threre for chemo probably have some kind of a central line so the nurses really don't have that many IV's to do in a day. If you're going to be on the iron infusions long term I would recommend you have a implanted port put in or at least a shorter term IV access device so that you don't have to be stuck all those times each time you go in. You should discuss this with your doctor

I feel you, back in 1995 I cut the first joint of my right thumb of with a chop saw at work. I have phantom pain in it all the time, and yes if I hit it or bump it, it brings tears to my eyes too. It hurts bad still after all these years. I am praying that you loss just to the first joint and thats it, no more amputations. My thoughts and prayers are with you and big daddy. Get better soon.

So sorry you have to lose another finger. Or partial finger. I always hoped this wouldn't happen. I hope you can still crochet after you heal. You make such amazing projects. They had trouble getting an IV into me when I had open heart surgery. They used a sonogram to find a vein. I used to give blood but can't do it anymore.

You're so funny. I feel the same about those dang ivs. My last time it was accomplished on the 9th try. I'm like you I can usually take it. After the 4th try the tears started coming. On the 9th one the doctor said squeeze my hand as hard as needed. He started laughing and told the nurses no surgeries for him the rest of the day. It made me laugh. You know what meds work. Let's all pray that it's the minimum that will be the end result. My doctors say expect the worst but pray for the best. Guess what, we're going to continue praying for the best as we've been doing. I know it must be hard now having a surgery date, but when you said it is Wednesday I thought that's good because your office visit with him wasn't going to be until November. And I think the sooner the better before the gangrene gets worse or further down that finger. Maybe they will give you the pain meds prescription that you can get it and have it for at home after the surgery. (My ortho doc did that before each of my knee replacements) I'm praying for your Kayla and will be thinking about you all day Wednesday too. You will do well, you've got the right attitude. He went back a few years after that and had the knuckle removed he keep hitting it on every thing. I'm still working the kinks out of it. I'm diabetic & have a sore that was infected, I'm having it bandaged daily, unfortunately I seem to be allergic to the adhesive on the bandage.
