This comment is not supposed to sound weird, but there’s no other way to say it. You have incredibly talented fingers. Both on the guitar and on the tap drummer.

It's refreshing to see someone take this instrument at face value (especially when you get results like these), I've found it a bit tiring to see some influencers in the niche dismiss the FGDP due to the non-grid layout. This is a new thing, and I'm personally very excited to see more like it. And amazing playing, of course, you're an inspiration!
@FusionFingerDrumКүн бұрын
The layout is very well designed, in my opinion, some actual thought went into it rather than it just being a generic grid that you could assign samples to or something... I think a lot of people that do finger drumming or just doing music production, they're not really trying to play the instrument in any other way than using it like a loop to drum machine

Great demonstration! I ordered an FGDP-50 for my child who is now only able to play the normal drum set to a limited extent due to a chronic illness.

Thank you in sharing this video! One thing I hated about older drum machines or the pads is that you have to do all the programming of all of the drum notes. If you were to do it manually on the fly, the pads would sometimes miss registering on hitting the beat due to the lack of velocity or sensitivity to the pad. This finger drum machine looks functional and organic naturally with sensitivity on the pads intact. This instrument looks like something I've been missing in all my years of musicianship! The way how I'll approach it will be differently from how your showing on the video. When ever I hear music playing, be it others or my own music, my hand is tapping the closed high hat or ride cymbal and the snare to the beat of the song. That's what I'll do first once I get my hands on one of these. I'll start out and record one track with me playing just the closed high hat or ride cymbal and snare like I naturally do when my hand is tapping to a beat of a song. Then I'll record a second track with just the ghost notes on snare. Third track would be the bass drum. Fourth track would be for toms and finally a fifth track to rerecord high hat and ride cymbals from the first track for a little more finesse. Soon as I get done with my latest project, I'm getting one of these machines. Your video has sold me on this product! Yamaha should be paying you!

Agreed, if you have slender female fingers. But if you have craftsman's shovels like mine, then you don't need to try to play triplets on the small hi-hat pads on the 50. A pair of sticks is worth its weight in gold.

Yes, thank you! I actually ended up getting this after seeing you vouch for it, I fell in love with it the moment I got it. As a guitarist who has no space for a drum kit, and as much as I love my sampler/sequencers/drum machines, it's not the same, this was a proper game changer. I'll go through this lesson now :)

Outstanding finger drumming tutorial and demo. I used to play real drums before moving to guitar. The Yamaha FGDP ergonomic layout looks to have solved the lack of stick bounce feel by mirroring the pads for both hands - Smart design. I've tried pads with a uniform grid layout, and found them totally unintuitive and no fun to play. The Yamaha FGDP-50 looks like it might be worth the extra $100 just to make navigating the menus easier. Your prowess on the guitar is alive and well on the finger drums. Impressive! 😎

Yeah, I'll probably pick up the fgdp50 at some point too. Although, I like the compact size of the 30....

Well, I used to do it on my keyboard - but, now you are sharing a better idea to play drums using our fingers. Hoping the long pad can be made positional pad sensitive like the Roland R70 by Yamaha. Cheers!

Hey Tory, this super interesting stuff, thanks for sharing! I've been playing the FGDP units since last October and they really influenced my playing style (finger rolls, which were harder to do on other devices which you mention as well I think) as well as my practicing (with the easy access, just turn it on and play). Very curious to see how all of this develops. Rock on! 🙂

Hi Tory and thanks for all your videos an tutorials, very useful. I found this new device just a few days ago and I´m evaluating if buy it or not. I can't say why, but I feel that this is the first step in the instrument and that if FGDP is commercially successful, surely there will be a second version that incorporates everything that the users are suggesting (feedback)... Maybe it is my intuition, but I have a feeling that this instrument needs to be improved in some functionalities. I would like to know your opinion since you play it every day. Also, I was thinking and wanted to ask you, why did you choose this model and not the FGDP-50? Thank you very much again and greetings from Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Thanks, finger drumming is one of my favorite things to do, especially when I'm just kind of unwinding, maybe after practicing guitar all day or something I'll just play some drums for the next day or two... I like it also kind of gives you a different set of ideas that kind of cross-pollinates your compositional concepts and writing... I'm actually thinking of releasing just a drumming album, something kind of similar to maybe what Nate Smith has done, although I might use different kits and even write some, sort of late 90s drum instructional video type tunes... Not really anything that showcases guitar playing for solos, but you know it's just really kind of interesting piece to drum on, that kind of thing... Definitely going to probably wait until this channel gets bigger before I jump into that though
