Little trick I have my crews do I learned years back in the union. When gluing panels push the panel tight then pull away as to allow the glue to string then push it back up. Get a little air on there and better I think . And there's your dinner
@philipbohi9834 жыл бұрын
Randy Carreiro - that’s a great tip. We did that experiment with contact cement and the adhesion is almost 6x stronger. (Measuring the pulling force it takes to separate the materials). Besides the final cured strength, the immediate adhesion is more than double.

I agree with Joey Dafish. Make sure to get the kit which comes with a storage bag. They have several lengths available. Short for cabinet installs (microwaves, etc.) and longer for standard ceilings. Compared to Zipwall brand, the Fastcap have detent pins that will get the pole length closer to your needed height and a squeeze handle to extend the rod the rest of the way and hold pressure where needed. We had a remediation company at our house and they used the ZipWall brand and the damn poles kept falling over as the twist lock mechanism was worn out and wouldn't keep pressure against the ceiling to hold the plastic tight. They were falling all over the living room and onto the tv. Very aggravating. Anyhow, I use the Third Hands and plastic to build on site paint booths, dust barriers (drywall sanding), etc. I do however like the ZipWall brand zippers. They have adhesive that you attach to the plastic and make it so you can gain entry to the protected area and then seal it back as needed.

That is just about the same faux coffered ceiling I did last year. Didn’t have your tools or experience, so it took me a lot longer to do, but the look was similar. I used beadboard instead for the squares. For an 8 foot ceiling, it gives a nice look with only about a 1-1/4 inch dropdown.

Our '39 house was built using rough, 3/4" tongue and groove on ALL studs ... not plaster/lath, and '39 predates the invention of gypsum board. The finish surface is wallpaper on top of a paperboard which created the smooth surface for the wallpaper (linen-backed.) Anyway, the wallpaper has to go and the paperboard behind it isn't great, but nor is it easy to remove because they installed it with millions of tacked-on brads and staples. I considered 4x8 euca board or bead board sheets (same euca product) but even in the thicker 3/16" the manufacture says not to use it on ceilings and don't nail it because nails prevent expansion/contraction. Richard, do you have any thoughts on that? An alternative would be 1/8" plywood -- rough but cheap -- which is approved for ceilings (again, there's 3/4" hardwood walls everywhere.) I'll drywall if I must, and would skip all the taping if I can cover with trim boards and crowns if doing that anyway.
@jerseyjim90924 жыл бұрын
I love the look but I'm not keen on permanently gluing the panels to the sheetrock. I've been exploring alternatives such as using thicker panels that wouldn't need support in the field.
