I have both Festool dominos, but I prefer Mafell’s duel doweling system. Up to 1/2”x3” dowels two at a time. It is what I use for doors because you can offset and stack the dowels. I use the dominos for furniture.

I did my time under a old builder who was in his 70s, alot of techniques on building have been replaced for doing things faster The problem is alot of stuff thats built now is whacked up and not built correctly.

Retired trim carpenter here and i say use a good quality copping saw with a quality blade. Or a barrel type jig saw with a copping base and hog it out. Get a nicholson # 50 pattern makers rasp and a rat tail file to fine tune .Do that for 42 years ask me how i know

Always acclimate lumber. Also, I pre paint always before install. And never caulk. Wood will move as you know. When prepainted if or when they move you don't notice. That being said its a beautiful looking job!!

A lot of old 70s homes I've worked in had outlets in the floor... imagine a carpeted floor with a sharp square metal face plate in the center just waiting to slice your big toe open😮

Very good point on pushing the saw too hard. 50 years down the road, I can still hear my high school shop teacher bellowing out "DON'T FORCE THE STOCK, GIVE THE MACHINE TIME TO DO THE WORK!" Although we didn't realize the importance back then, he was always right and the habits he instilled are still with me today.

"Unbalanced" is a polite way of describing the style of this house. IMHO "chaotic" would be more appropriate. Still, I somehow like it. Thanks for sharing!

Dude, you had to put that trim on the floor to transfer a mark twice, pull that trim to a sawhorse, drag your setup into every room.... Next time do what the drywallers do, use a rotozip in place. Work fewer hours, get paid less!

I have a 120 year old wooden house made of old growth Fir. Once you get past the crappy renos from the pastg100 years you start to see the quality. All the framing is in real 2inch by 4inch lumber. The s#$t is tough as iron, you couldn't build like this today, all the wood now is 2nd generation or tree farm crap. We call them pecker polls
