Thanks. The videos are great. As I've stated a few times, I purchased his videos to pick up the odd tricks and tips that one would normally not know when they don't do this work daily. It's saved me a ton of time and money in the process. Hope your project went well also.

I really like the drop ceiling idea. I worried about all the pipes and didn't know what to do, so I only finished half of my basement. I will definitely do drop ceiling when I decide to finish the rest half in the future.

Jon, I hope your wife and children appreciate you. This is an amazing DIY job. Better than most contractors. Thanks for investing the time to make such a detailed tour video. Many good innovative ideas most don't think of. I need to finish a basement in a rehab house. it has an existing toilet and pedestal sink in the basement (not a walk-out basement), and I am uncertain if a sewage ejector pump would be needed to add a shower for a 3/4 bath like you did. BTW, I love the beautiful custom shower you did. I just wish you had made step by step video showing how you installed the pan and all the parts. Amazing job!! And thanks for sharing the $'s invested also.
@fixitwithzim7 жыл бұрын
David Lemmon Thanks for the comment! My family appreciates the added space for sure. Not sure my wife liked the year long process (worked at a slow pace, tough with the kids). How does the existing toilet and sink drain? You should be able to tap into that line for the shower. If you're looking for good tutorials on custom shower construction with pan, check out sal diblasi on KZbin. I used his videos when I was constructing mine as a guide. Guy is top notch and you'll pick up a lot of helpful information.

That looks really good! I want to do something with my huge basement, but I can't even get past the planning stages.... I just don't have a creative mind for that I guess, but I see a good idea of the half wall that would work for one of the areas.
@fixitwithzim8 жыл бұрын
+Tony D I drew out my basement in Google Sketchup (foundation walls, support columns, and stairs) Once you have that, you can play around with different ideas - walls, rooms, etc to see what works and looks best. The half wall is a great trick to hide columns that can't be concealed in walls. Thanks for the compliments and for watching.

one of the nicest looking basements I've ever saw in my life. This is nice work. It's o.k. if the utility area's unfinished. No one gives a S*** about the utility room, just as long as the nice half is finished is what's going to count. 98% is great. But amazing work.

Nice job, Zim. Overall great use of space. Love all the closets, plumbing so forth. Will have to check out Eddie's stuff shortly. 2 questions. You run central air instead a portable AC? Just curious. Also, Carpeting in the basement. Any concerns with mildew, mold build up? I'm guessing because of the kids, but could you have tiled the whole floor, or use good vinyl, or linoleum? Buy the way, I did look at your dehumidifier pump settup. Again awesome job, way to save a bunch of money. nice job!
@fixitwithzim3 жыл бұрын
Hi and thank you! Yes, I ran a duct trunk down to the space. This adds in the exchange of the air in the basement with the rest of the house. No concerns in my basement with mold. Great job on your finished basement. You should be very proud. I just purchased Eddie's videos about 30 days ago. I am just finished watching the electrical videos and getting ready to start watching the HVAC videos tomorrow. I would really be interested in any videos you have on your finished shower and how you did all that GREAT work. Eddie's video shows installing a prebuilt shower unit but I would really like to do something more upscale like you did. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!
@fixitwithzim8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the compliments. I really don't have much video of the shower going together. I learned most of the how to process from another KZbinr. Check out Sal Diblasi's channel. He has tons of great videos on the subject and is truly a master of his trade. I poured a traditional mortar base pre slope and used a rubber membrane. This is considered the old school method of constructing a shower pan but has survived the test of time. It's also much cheaper then the shower systems out there. The walls are Durocked with a water proofing membrane. Curb is built up with 2x4's. If you have any specific questions, just ask. Definitely check out Sal's channel. Eddies videos are also great. Well worth the investment. Good luck with your project!

@fixitwithzim9 жыл бұрын
Thanks man! Yeah, Eddie does a great job in his videos along with his crew. My project took me right around 8 months to complete. I mostly worked on weekends and a couple hours here and there. I wasn't in any rush and with kids, things sometimes take a backseat. Longest parts of the job was the drywall and shower. Thanks again for stopping by.

Your finished basement is gorgeous. I love it. I plan to remodel my attic. I want to use it as a quiet room for an office and library. It's going to have lots of skylights and windows . So I can have natural lights. It will save me money from using the electricity. Do you think it's a good idea?
@SxyGrl447 жыл бұрын
I'm planning on remodeling our basement as well. It's not as big as yours but I think it can become a more cozy place. What I'm so curious to know is why is there like shelves all over the basement like about 1-2 feet away from the actual back of the wall comes out a shelf and then Sheetrock ... so there's about 4 feet high shelves all around the basement.. I'm wondering what's behind those as to why the person made those.... I'm losing room space because of it. Someone will come and check it out for me but for the longest while I worried what's back there. It's amazing how you can renovate. Good job!!!
@SxyGrl447 жыл бұрын
There was a small hole that I can feel through and it's concrete. So does that mean there's nothing I can do about it? These concrete blocks come from off the basement concrete wall and extends out about 4 feet. Long enough to put a storage bin right on top.

You should be extremely proud of your project .. it looks very professional .... The see through door at the top of the stairs is an Eddie Case trademark ... I too also purchased Eddie Case's how videos; he is definitely, "The Finishing Basement Man" .. I've been studying the videos and about to start my basement project .. the previous owner had already rough-in the bathroom, so I'm trying to figure out how to connect up all the plumbing ... don't see any vent stacks though ... Also, I see you used wall heaters ....did you not tap into the existing HVAC for any of your rooms?

Not really, it's my kids playroom and they kind of took the space over so a video wouldn't really do any justice.
