As I get older, I find I'm not as good a mechanic as I used to be. Could wrench anytime, anywhere, with mostly the right tools. Today, not so much. So I just drive semi trucks now and work on my own stuff carefully.

When you’re rolling around under the truck, use a gallon oil jug as a pillow. It makes a crummy job easier.

Nice Job Martin, got the Cummins in 579 Pete popped off and running. I got whop in the side of head buy the drive shaft but not as bad I had a ratchet strap safety loop underneath hook in the frame and I was sitting up a little bit I was looking for the darn bolts. Right there, but my big butt wasn't in the same spot. And did the same thing pop in the side of the head as slipped out of the u-joint cap. The light at the end of the tunnel is here. Take care and cheers, drink a beer on the fat lip to help the swelling. 👍🍺

Yes sir I was a o/o for 15 years when I first started I bought a pressure washer and i wash my truck that was the first time and the last time I did that. I replaced u joints one time and it was the last time i did that . I learned a lesson that them big truck mechanics know all the tricks and blue beacon is friend

I always run a strap so it can only fall so far if it slips, glad you didn't get hurt worse. Tough to work alone sometimes. Nice job on the rebuild! Most of us have neither the skill or time to pull this off 👍

Yes a ratch strap to hold it up so it can not fall on you ron pratt on the tow trucks always uses a strap before even removing the shaft
