Even at $60,000-$70,000, depending on the area you live in, you’d likely see a 1.5x-2x return on investment. Having an additional 1900 sq ft of living space on top of (assuming a 1 story 1900 sq ft house) is a massive increase. Only thing I’d personally do different is not having the couches back up to the kitchenette. Beautiful basement, hopefully you get to enjoy it for years to come. Thanks for filming and sharing this process with us.

You're basement is an entire house and then some!!! If that's you're basement, wtf is your house??!?!? Awesome videos, and you clearly have a blessed life. Your family is lucky to have you. God I miss basements and gas stoves!!! I've always said a basement is like a whole house under youre house and living up north, in a home, you basically get two houses.... But your basement sir, blows any others Ive seen out of the water....

That's amazing. Did you have to get your HVAC, electrical, and plumbing inspected before you closed it all up?
@LRN2DIY4 жыл бұрын
Most areas require that, yeah. Typically it's pretty straight forward if you're turning in your plans at the city offices and staying in touch with building codes. If you time it right, you can get all of the systems inspected at once just before drywalling.

I pay for Epidemic Sounds music license. I register my channel with them so that I don’t get the copyright strike, so that’s why I’m able to use the song.

This was a great video since I'm going to be starting on my own basement soon. I'm excited to check out the other videos you have on framing. Question for you, what sort of preparation would you recommend before starting this project?
@LRN2DIY4 жыл бұрын
That's awesome that you'll be starting on your basement! The few things I'd check into are any codes you need to be aware of for your area, do your homework on the HVAC to see if your current furnace and A/C can handle the extra load and, if so, how many and how large the returns are that you'll need to put in to allow it to properly ventilate. I also have to spend a lot of time each time on planning the electrical system. Make sure to overdo it a bit on the amperage if possible so that you never stress out your outlets or lights. Holler if you have any questions and best of luck!
@jamalkhalid4 жыл бұрын
That was an amazing job. How many weeks of work is this? I too have an unfinished basement and was considering doing it myself. You tips about subbing out the taping / mudding is noted and on another channel they said if you want to do a vinyl floor, sub it out as well. I see you used sketchup for planning your design. Would you recommend it?
@LRN2DIY4 жыл бұрын
Hi there. This took me about six months of nights and weekends, or just whenever I had time. If I were to do this 40-60 hours/week, I'm guessing it'd still take me a couple of months or more by myself. As for Sketchup, I really like it because it's free, pretty easy to use and works in the browser with nothing to install. I definitely recommend it.
@608_diesel3 жыл бұрын
Awesome video! I'm also in the process of finishing my basement, mine is only 1300 sq ft however. Can I ask what you paid to contract out the mudding\taping? I got a quote from a contractor for about $7000 just to mud, tape and texture! I'll be doing it myself if it's going to cost anywhere near that much.
@jlistdiy2 жыл бұрын
That's definitely way to high-priced we had 1200sq ft done for $800 that was 5 years ago
@nickd19783 жыл бұрын
Seriously impressive. Do you have an estimate of how much the whole project cost you?
@LRN2DIY3 жыл бұрын
Hey Nick, I didn’t keep great track of it but in the $20-30k region. My neighbor has a smaller basement and was quoted $55k so I feel like we did pretty good. Plus I have additional power tools now :)

What Insulation did you use in the ceiling R?
@LRN2DIY3 жыл бұрын
I’ll have to double check but I’m pretty sure it was R19. They make ceiling insulation specifically for sound proofing but it costs quite a bit more so I used the standard stuff and it still works great.
@BHSTUDIO13 жыл бұрын
@@LRN2DIY I can’t use that in my state Michigan , has to be a R30 or R38 thank you for replying,It looks great 👍
@mrkang40803 жыл бұрын
@@BHSTUDIO1 it's a waste of money IMO -- As long as you have hvac the insulation in the celiing of a basement will barely make a difference in soundproofing. Save your money, don't insulate it -- I honestly don't think there is ever a reason to insulate the ceiling of a basement. If you want to sound proof the basement, you need 2 layers of drywall on the ceiling, and use the thick soundproofing adhesive between both layers. It's really your only option since the hvac can't be removed.
