I planted bleeding hearts to ! I planted mine last week! My garden is not as full as yours yet. But its a work in progress. So the story behind my bleeding hearts. My grampa had planted one for my gramma after she had passed. So I planted 4 this year because my mother passed in Sept.(She had early onset Alzheimers) , One for a Uncle and the others for both my grandparents. I wanted to be able to celebrate their lives with beauty. Happy Spring ! May everyones garden bloom this year !

Ohhh yeah, we're in that season now where things are developing weekly in the garden! And, it's funny how you think you're done buying new things, then you find a little gap and plant something new there. This year, I'm adding five containers: 3 with fountain grass and 2 with catmint. I can't wait until they arrive! Have a great week, Catherine - your garden's looking lovely!

Hi Catherine! Your garden is sure waking up. Mine too. I'm in the U.S. zone 9B and I absolutely love going out everyday and seeing the progress in the garden. Here in northern NH we are in the midst of our sugaring season...so collecting sap to make Maple syrup is our current outdoor activity. We have 6 plus inches of snow on the ground and are gearing up for another 10 to 20 inches in the next 24 hours ❄️. I’m trying to grow cold stratification seeds in milk jugs for the 1st time this year...they are currently buried under all the snow. It’s so much fun watching your garden Spring to life...and hearing about the antics of your garden hedgehog 🦔 Wishing you a Happy St Patrick’s Day 🍀

Bleeding hearts - Dicentra spectabilis - are very hardy, and will tolerate quite a lot of sun. I'm in zone 3 in Alberta and have had them in my garden for many years, they just keep coming up every spring. They self seed readily so you'll get them popping up elsewhere too. They grow huge root systems and can lift paving! Their main disadvantage is that as the summer progresses they get floppy and less attractive and take up much more room, but in Spring they're beautiful for weeks. A really nice perennial that also self seeds but doesn't go leggy is columbine - aquilegia - and it comes in various shades of pinks and purples and blues and doesn't mind sun either, although it's also thought of as a shade plant. Our Spring doesn't start for another month, and we can't reliably plant tender annuals until about mid May, but those two always come up no matter how bad a winter we get so they're a welcome sight. It's lovely to see how lush your garden is already! Sweet peas! Lovely flowers that smelll wonderful. 🤗 I get a bit jealous I must admit, it's till snowy here. 🥴
