Hey y'all, Justin and Lilly here,
to those who are new, and those who have been watching us build for a while, thanks for joining us! Support our build and engage with us by commenting, hitting like on our videos, and Subscribing to our channel!
We are building our dream house from the ground up, together as a family.
The house will be 28' x 54' which comes in at just over 1500 square feet of floor space. There will be three bedrooms and two baths.
In this video, we finish framing the master bedroom, the bathrooms, and the laundry room walls. It's now 90 degrees, and we are feeling the heat intensely. Lil retreats to the shade, and the ducks discover the cool under the pier and beam house foundation.
The Dewalt nail gun behaves itself again, thankfully.
We are rushing to get framed up before the summer rains hit, but we don't have much time.
Stick around for the usual building shenanigans!

The best bit of your videos for me is seeing your children get involved. I have seen too many other self build videos where the kids are kept "safe".

It is tricky to have a YT channel as a family. We try to protect our kids from the internet, but they are ever present in the build, and it would be impossible to edit them out 100%. So, we try to be respectful of their privacy while also showcasing how they're an essential part of this venture!

Two things. One, you should wait to put your second top plate on until all your walls are done so that you can easily overlap where all the walls meet. It makes for a stronger wall system. Two, before putting your doorways close to the second wall. For example, the doorway from your master bedroom to the master bathroom is right up against the outside wall (only one stud). You may end up having issues putting your door trim up on that side of the door and have to cut the trim down in width. By moving the door way over another, say 3 inches, you can avoid that.
@DIY_or_DIE
@DIY_or_DIE 14 күн бұрын
Yes, I figure there should be enough room if we use 2-1/2" trim, but if we wanted to use 3 inch trim or larger we might run into issues

Hi folks, great to see you all doing well, thanks for the update on progress. So many life skills and values being taught for the kids, a proper upbringing! Good to see you taking to time to make sure your framing is actually plumb/ square rather than just eyeballing it as being "good enough" Pleased to see the nail gun hanging in there still, thought it might have turned red by now 🤣Stay safe all, take care in the heat!

It's a learning experience and you guys have it down. Looking awesome, the cut offs can be used in the walls for blocking when and where they are needed. In the coming heat just keep the liquids going in. God bless your family.

A little late now but back cut the bottom plate from the bottom about 1/2 way through at your door opening will save a little bit of trouble later when you have to hand cut them out . OR leave your trimmer out and use skill saw to cut later and install the trimmer after...the narrow side of the skill saw is the correct width for 2x material

Nice progress. Speaking of heat, are you going to be happy with the R value you'll get in that 2x4 exterior? Or do you have exterior foamboard or something else in mind? I've been researching ICF buildings and would definitely want one for the comfort and safety. Did you consider it?

Would it not have been cheaper to wait to do the bathroom till they had the right lengths and gone ahead else where rather than wasting time and money cutting the 10's down?
@DIY_or_DIE
@DIY_or_DIE 14 күн бұрын
Possibly, but we have limited time to work when it is not raining, so we are taking any chance we get to raise these walls! We can't afford to lose a day or weekend to wait on lumber, and these pieces won't go to waste because we will use them for blocking or whatever later
