Hey Adam, yes we are very excited to be moving along with the walls! Question: what would you do next, exterior wall sheathing or move onto the roof and try to get it covered?

@AdamDeLayDIY7 ай бұрын
@@DIYorDIE_Off-Grid My first thought was to get the exterior wall sheathing done first because that's easier to knock out and it add adds more strength to the overall structure. The more I think about it and look into it, it seems like people tend to do the roof first so you can have a covered workspace. I guess it would depend on what you have more of...wind or rain... 😁
@DIYorDIE_Off-Grid7 ай бұрын
We decided to go with the sheathing...hopefully that won't take too long
@AdamDeLayDIY7 ай бұрын
@@DIYorDIE_Off-Grid I don't think there's really a right or wrong answer. Looking at the design, it doesn't look like you have any crazy dimensions or angles, so it should be a pretty quick process. Just remember to save yourself some time and cut out the windows/doors after you hang the sheathing... 😁. Wasted a lot of time before I learned that trick!

Now that was a "somewhat eventful" wall lift. But the wall is up and connected and no-one was hurt and that is what matters. Well done to the pair of you.

We weren't sure how we were going to raise these at first, luckily we had these pulleys on hand from a different project 😄
@donjohnsonlivesgood7 ай бұрын
next time secure straps to the deck at the bottom of part being lifted into place - leaving enough space for rotation - to help prevent it from kicking out, at least in two places - each end. Standing where you did with it up in the air like that was dangerous, it could have caught a good gust of wind and kicked out with all that top weight and literally acted like a boot kicking you, except it would hurt a lot more if not create a fatal situation, and those straps would help to prevent that type of situation.

I've enjoyed watching you family grow as you embark on this adventure of being off grid, and I do hope all works out for ya'll with the county, so you won't have to leave. Judging from your progress, I believe you'll get this done! Anyway, love the videos, keep up the great work!

Good job you two, a hint screw or nail a little block of wood to your floor a couple of inches away from the turning bottom plate to stop it jumping back out at the bottom, if doing on outside walls nail two longer blocks onto the rimwall edge in vertical mode. Trust me as a slightly disabled person you figure things out, especially doing it by yourself, or with 2 people

You guys need to learn how to use the bucket on your backhoe to lift things and to pull with, would have made it much easier getting your walls up.
@DIYorDIE_Off-Grid6 ай бұрын
Hi there, we chose to use a pulley system for a variety of reasons, #1 being that it is super simple to setup and it works very well 😀 our house is raised 5' feet off the ground and the tractor backhoe can't reach any of the interior walls. We also have some tight spaces with trees and septic field which prevent or limit our ability to drive the tractor up next to the house.
