I was 14 and owned one of the first Banshee in 1987. The Banshee was not only my first quad but my first 2 stroke machine. When they delivered the Banshee to my house, the guy asked if I wanted him to adjust the throttle. I remember this like it was yesterday! So beside my house was a blacktop road. As soon as I hit the throttle I understood why the guy wanted to adjust the throttle... Needless to say I'm still alive today lol. The Banshee was the fastest production quad back then until the 500 Quad Racer came out. They were fairly rare to see though so my only real comp was that damn ATC 250R 3 wheeler. Mike - not sure if you've rebuilt one of those yet but that might be a lot of fun to build. Don't ride it though!! Great Video's sir!

I’m 33 . My dad owned one when I was a baby. Wish we had pictures but we had one that was my dad and I coming over the top of a chat pile in Pithcer Oklahoma when I was 2-3. We was doing a wheelie over the top and I was smiling ear to ear. Plus we used to load up on it my dad mom and I and go ridding the back roads from our house to go swim miles away from home. Hell I even had the electric Suzuki 500 to match for me as a kid. Loved these quads. Brings back great memories.

It's a great way to get people into the hobby, and gives em the confidence to buy and work on their stuff. All the QuadZilla is missing is a full Laeger's treatment, Fox/Ekla/Axis up front and rear, and a signature "'Dr. Q'' Pipe!

Turned out pretty nice, and it's Def a Lil rich on the jetting Michael, but that's OK on the fresh engine until a bit of time has been put on her.I worked for one of the larger Suzuki dealers in southern Illinois back in the eighties up until early 90's as the lead technician and eventually service manager. We sold a heap of 250 and 500 quads and the first batch of quadzillas had a few issues as I remember. The crankshaft to rotor taper was wrong and they would shear off the flywheel keys resulting in the rotor inertia welding itself to the crankshaft, lol.pretty sure our Suzuki service rep told us that I mighta been the first person in the U.S. to do a crankshaft and rotor replacement on the venerable LT-500R.Keep up the awesome builds,I enjoy watching these old 2 stroke quad builds as it brings back some good memories working on all of those older bikes and quads.

To see clutch dumps and actual riding on the 500, watch this 🤘 - kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z5SynneBfrd_b80 I want to make note that while I showcase the knock off PWK carb in this video, I don't necessarily recommend it. While they look and feel great, small tolerances and internal orphancies can make a carburetor run weird or even just differently than genuine. I've personally run these with success and then also with bad results so it's a risk and with a 2 stroke, it may not be worth it if you're not decent at jetting. On the other hand, you may see me using unbranded FCR style carburetors on my 4 stroke builds; these have had consistent good results in my cases and I do recommend them. This could be a result of the FCR style carbs being in the 150$ range whereas the PWK was only 30$. My official recommendation is to always go genuine if possible.

I have mixed feeling about it; I did put genuine jets and needle in it but I definitely agree that very small tolerance inconsistencies can make major difference in carb functionality. I will say that the quality of these seems to have improved over the years; some of the older knock offs were literally made for the trashcan 😂

my 01 blaster 200 2 stroke with aftermarket exhaust but not much else, would do 65 in 5th gear. this was tested with a truck driving behind me and clocked me at 65 on asphalt. with a lighter rider it could hit 6th gear and do about 75ish. now a 500 2 stroke should in theory blow it out of the water right off the line. my 200 would lift the front tires all the way through 4th gear and if i powershifted at a high rpm it would keep them off the ground until i hit 5th. it had tons of power and i regret selling it lol. i drove a 250r some years ago and it was all decked out and it was easily a 100+ mph bike. now these 500's stock did about 80 mph. they were, at the time of release, the fastest quads in production. not sure what your used to riding lol, but the 500 is plenty fast and ballsy, but in this video you were babying the hell out of it. once your boy opens it up youll see the true potential of the 500 2 smoker. that thing will pull you, in a wheelie, through all gears if your crazy enough to do it lol. also watch out for that chinese knock off carb regardless of how good and alike it looks. they use cheap metals and they are known for failure. im especially leary of the under $40 pricetag. if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. either way good luck and i hope yall enjoy that beast of a machine..

Awesome build, well worth the wait as always. It looks like ShitTube deleted my original comment because I posted a link to a tire the Obors reminded me of. The Obor Advents' aggressiveness reminded me of the DURO Hook-Up. The Advents have more lugs and a square shoulder profile and the Hook-Up's have less knobs, but are chunkier with a more rounded shoulder profile. But they both have a similar aggressive feel to them. :)
