Today we finally put the finishing touches on the Ford Explorer 8.8 rear axle which was previously swapped into our project Jeep Wrangler TJ. We install a new driveshaft with flange yoke and install e-brake hardware and cables.
Click here for the first video covering the Ford 8.8 install:

Good seeing more of this tj. I've been following along with it so far. I've been doing stuff on our 99 Jeep Cherokee myself as well. Gotta get a few things done with the steering and take care of some light rust.

I used the explorer parking brake cables I made a 3/8 block with holes drilled just big enough for the cables to go through and replace the original jeep parking brake piece u used a couple of small clamps from tractor supply not fancy but it works I had to weld a couple of washers on the frame to hold the cables up.

Good idea. I’ll probably be revisiting this eventually as the cables stretch and I can no longer take the slack out of them. Just might have to do something like that.

Love seeing your progress. Kinda motivates me to get mine done. I’ve had an 8.8 with an Artec truss sitting next to my shed for 1.5-2 years. Lol. Every time I go up to Rausch Creek with the stock 3.07’s it drives me crazy.

Looking good. Keep up the good work. I painted my wife’s 8.8 for her 03 TJ with gray Steel-it paint. Looks really good with the contrast. *she has a black 03.

Can you send me the part number of the flange yolk (Spicer 2-2-1379?) and the u- joint (Spicer 5-153x or 5-134x?). I have a Ford 8.8 matched to original driveshaft in my 98 TJ, and need these parts to make it work. Thanks!

You happen to have the part numbers that you used for the e-brake setups from ECGS?
@dironaa
@dironaa 2 жыл бұрын
No, but they should be easy to fine on the ecgs website. I could not find the stamped backing plates anywhere else on the internet.

Regarding the rear sway bar, is it the stock Ford 8.8 sway bars you are talking about? Also, my F8.8 came with a limited slip diff but I want to replace it with an aussie locker, will the carrier accept the aussie locker or do I need a different open carrier? Thank a million!
@dironaa
@dironaa 2 жыл бұрын
The truss/bracket kit I welded on to the axle came with brackets to mount the OEM TJ sway bar so I’d be adding the factory TJ sway bar to it. I can’t say for sure but typically most axles need an open carrier to install an Aussie. If you’re not already planning to regear I’d try installing a new clutch pack in the differential and see if it works good enough for what you need before changing the carrier since changing the carrier is a fair bit of work.

@@dironaa Big thanks for the tip! It slipped my mind but I do have the Artec truss kit with all the brackets so I should be good to go in that department. I originally planned for a 4.56 regear however strapped for cash atm so the existing 4.10's will have to suffice for now. The donor axle had less than 40k miles so I may stick with the current setup for the rear and concentrate on building the front d30 instead. Just like Kyle below I've been sitting on this project for about a year before finding your video so thanks for the motivation!
