I put over 100hrs into afterlife. And heres my observations for anyone that cares. The early to mid game in afterlife is amazing, it might be the best of any mod or vanilla. The mid game is still good. Late to endgame feels pointless to play. It feels pointless because capping the loot quality breaks the gameplay loop. It removes the carrot on the stick so to speak. And replaces it with a massive grind. That would be ok if there was something to do with your gear afterwards. But if you put in 500+ magazines into tailoring like I did and craft blue quality armour, grind out counterfeit money for a blue scar-l and craft a green Inconel melee. What do you after that grind? Go to the wasteland and burn through 100s of rounds, risk your life just to loot some green quality stuff? Theres no point. The loot quality cap (at least in the wasteland) breaks the gameplay loop and makes the hardest/riskiest challenge pointless. (imo the wasteland is more a of challenge/risk than hoard night if you have a good base) But im not putting out constructive criticism without offering a solution. This could be fixed if the dev adds in a new item exclusive to the wasteland that acts like a second tier of research fragment thats equivalent to like 50-100 magazines. This fixes the crazy length of the grind, makes endgame gear reasonably attainable (in exchange for the risk). It gives you a reason to go to the wasteland and grind up the gear you'd need to do that. Honestly adding anything to the wasteland to speed up crafting progression would work. Even something simple just like special loot boxes with 60 magazines of a few different types protected by a hoard. That could be cool if the dev could rework the trader quest system to do that. Maybe one type of trader that only gives quests in the wasteland that rewards a heap of magazines. That would put the carrot back on the stick. All in all its an excellent mod, and some of the most fun ive had with the game since it was new to me. Its just the late/endgame needs some balancing. Also if you read this tem, just use CM to give yourself the watch schematic, its ok lol. I never found the watch or compass schematics after +100hrs. Also the demo zombies are removed and the rocket parts do give you steel, you need anthracite to smelt them but its not worth the time it takes anyway, you're better off smelting steel normally. And thanks for putting a spotlight on Afterlife I wouldnt have found it otherwise.

I like this solution because it keeps the whole feeling of "the best items are the ones you can craft", while giving a massive incentive for risking the wasteland. Great idea!

Here is another thought, scatter a few military research base POIs around the wasteland that would have "research documents" in them that would be worth 50 to 100 magazines. That way you would have to raid to get to them.

I have found the compass in my last play, about 20 days or so, in a common house in the desert. I believe the spawn chances of the compass and watch (and their schematics) were doubled in this patch Tem is playing. I agree with @HojuMedia assesments up until the lategame observation. I don't think late game goals can be acchieved by mods without considerable effort, because 7DTD does not have a late game objective. This, as far as I hear from the devs on discord, was meant to be a considerably slower progression than vanilla. But, unlike vanilla, you need considerable dedication to max up your perks and skills, which would be a lategame activity. In lategame you can craft several chemstations and craft bulks of paper to convert to fragments. But, then again, that takes considerable dedication, which is this mods moto.

You have to scrap an item for the crafting skill that isn't unlocked yet. As far as I could see, he had already unlocked all of the items he was scrapping. So it isn't a "light armor" issue, really.

When crafting if you hold shift when adding to queue, the job gets to the front of the queue, no need to cancel jobs in progress... One of excellent features of Afterlife.

I've noticed that you have been disappointed with the lack of loot bag drops; by completing either lucky looter or wasteland adventures it increases the chance of loot bags dropping. hope this helps PS LOVE the new out-tro's! not sure when you started it but it has added so much more and I am here for it! keep up the great work!

tip: in chem station is a recepy 1 plank 1glue 1infected wather = 50 paper=1/2(not counting ink) reserch fragment allso if you could bulk scoup empty jar's & make them lighter allso reduce crafting time for book's to 1min i will be more torelable

Y'know how when you first start you have no idea where you are so you set out in a random direction to hopefully find a town? Yeah, so Day 1 I found the Wasteland, and a rad bear was there to welcome me. I graciously declined his invitation and proceeded to NOPE the hell out of there. I've skirted the boarder a few times since then, to fill out my map a bit more and find the other biomes, and have yet to see anything moving over there that doesn't glow in the dark...

Regarding the craft grind: the mericulous perk is very powerful, a few points in that will increase the quality range of your tools and weapons in a big way. Loving the series! Ps. The auger is much, much more fuel efficient and holds tons of fuel.

The clothes are worth it for cloth. Light armor gives tailoring the leathers give leatherworking and heavy armor gives armor up depending on item type 😂

this mod is more fun than vanilla makes the game experience way better and it is grindy but you can tamper with the settings to your own liking if you like fast pace or slow pace

I assume the stones have an explosive radius, so maybe putting another set of scaffolding ladders out on the exterior edge of the base so there's an air gap might not be a bad idea...

if you want to put a floor in your pit because of the cops, you could put a dirt floor. cops do no damage against dirt, but you may want to change it once you get to demolisher.

Just did 42 day horde, in the wasteland, almost melted my computer, and I play Cyberpunk on max settings. This mod has tons of promise but the book grind and getting max weapons and gear is ridiculous. You can at least save up to buy a max level weapon. Max armor and tools are impossible unless you play for 200+ hours, and I’m on to the next mod long before then.

I really wanna try this, but perhaps putting it on the back burner is a good idea. @HojuMedia I love your input. It really made me think about jumping in at this time. I hate it when it just ends up too much grind late game. Either way I end up stopping after a certain amount of time. So it being too damn grindy just makes it so things don't get experienced. I has been annoying seeing Tem getting crap gear over and over. Not even green gear.. all brown or copper color it looks. Lame. I'm sad Tem has started talking about the end... as always lol. I think 100+ hours in a mod can be fine if you are trying to min-max and be a completionist. The problem is if the end-game starts before you really reach that 100% mark, and then the remainder is just grinding the same content. If 100% is your only goal and there's nothing else unique to do, the game dies off before that point. Darkness Falls has the same problem. I can reach end-game in Darkness Falls by day 50-60, before the end-game demons even start showing up. At that point the only reason to continue is to grind out XP for skill points. The problem I have mentioned for early game of Afterlife is that, unlike Darkness Falls, parts are not balanced well, especially in multiplayer, and parts are too monotonous. I found myself getting very bored of looting house after house after house. With quests you usually get a variety of POIs to choose from to liven things up, and the quests reset them if you already did them. In Afterlife, once you loot a POI you're done. Eventually you'll run out of POIs, especially if you choose to play on a smaller map size. And with most of them being houses... ugh. And I dislike the weight system. I have played many RPG's that have weight systems, but you're also not picking up every scrap bit of garbage you come across in those games. Like moving the piano -- I get that it makes no sense to pick it up and carry it wherever, but sometimes you need to suspend your disbelief for the sake of the gameplay experience. If I want to move a piano, I will move a piano. Even if it takes half an hour and I am moving it 2 blocks at a time. That kind of time wasted and inconvenience doesn't add anything to the gameplay experience. Weights and ways to improve weights need to be improved. Learning skills should be improved as well. And why don't we have the Skyrim/Darkness Falls lockpicking? A mod like this has no excuse to use pure RNG. I don't know if you are going through dozens of lockpicks off screen and just pretending that your lucky lockpick always comes in to the rescue or not, but it drives me insane how dumb the RNG lockpick is, even in vanilla.

Why not build multiple cement mixers and forges? I agree, with the grind of this mod. It is past tedious ans the number of hoops you have to jump through to craft stuff is quite silly imo as is crafting higher quality weapons. I'm glad you are playing this and not me. I would love a mod that was about halfway between vanilla and Afterlife in tedium.

scrapping items improve a skill only IF you dont have enough skill to craft the type. quality doesnt seem to matter. example you can scrap pipe bombs and get explosive crafting skill until you learn how to make pipe bombs. but can scrap grenades still to get explosive crafting skill.
