@TheChristianHardscaper

Thank you! That wall system gives you some solids in the mix in case you need to make splits for corners. Other than that you just use them as a regular wall unit. Cool design. They also sell the corners separately obviously so you don’t have to make them if you don’t want to.

Thank you so much for your videos. I learnt so much and did my 27x23 patio following your instruction! One more question, between garage and first paver, there is a small gap, how do you seal it? Using stone chips?
@TheChristianHardscaper

Great work man 👍🏼 I’ve heard you mention in previous videos how driveways are a little different. Have you ever done one and what makes the install different from patios?
@TheChristianHardscaper
@TheChristianHardscaper Жыл бұрын
Thanks brother! I have done a permeable paver driveway before. It was a really good size driveway on a slope. A few years before I started this channel…. So what is different is that you need a minimum of 12” of the clean crushed base stone, compacted in lifts of 4”. On top of the first 2 lifts, you need to lay geogrid on top and then backfill and compact. That extra stone will really help with drainage and the geogrid and extra compaction will really help to stabilize the stone under the pressure of vehicular traffic. Also, you need to use thicker pavers than the average pavers used for foot traffic only applications. So a few differences but basically the same method…

Love your work! Keep it up! Do you have any experience installing pavers on top of existing concrete? Trying to do a project on my own!
@TheChristianHardscaper
@TheChristianHardscaper Жыл бұрын
Thank you, I try not to lay pavers over concrete. But It can be done depending on the circumstances. Setting pavers in mortar is not something I would recommend. But if you are able to spread 1-2 inches of the 3/8" crushed stone that I screed with for these patios on top of the concrete, that would be the best way. But if the concrete is in rough shape, I typically recommend removing it completely

Quick question I can’t seem to get the bare ground level is it normal to have a little bit of unevenness in the soil? Does it make a huge difference when you put in gravel?
@TheChristianHardscaper

The subsoil does not have to be perfect, but you really want to make sure it is compacted well.

So I have a question and maybe you can help me or someone else here can answer. I'm going to start a walkway in a few weeks hopefully and the customer wants to put down Boston city hall brick, and the clay bricks are concaved on the underside, my question is will your technique work with this style of brick or will it sink in more than a regular cement paver? Do you think each one will need to be set into the base? This will be the first time I will be using the 3/4 clean and the chip. thx
@TheChristianHardscaper
@TheChristianHardscaper Жыл бұрын
So yes, I think this method is exactly what you want to use for the clay bricks. It will keep them dry and more stable than sand. Unfortunately with any clay brick walkway or patio, there is a lot more fine tuning to make it level.... Some need to be hammered down more than others, but it is still very possible with this 3/4 - chip method. Good luck with the project and I hope you like the method when you try it, I have never looked back since I tried it once.... ✌

Great job guys! Question….Being in Mass, how do the pavers/walls hold up to the winter weather (water, ice)? Any heaving?
@TheChristianHardscaper
@TheChristianHardscaper Жыл бұрын
Thank you! Pavers and walls last many years when done correctly around here. But when done incorrectly, a few cold winters will show all the flaws in the install. Using the Open Grade Base method we use is key to allow water to drain freely. ✌

It is called (Chip Stone) around here. It is also called (HPB - High Performance Bedding) and also (PBS - Premium Bedding Stone). It is a 3/8" clean, crushed stone with no fines in it. It helps with water drainage and is far more stable then sand. ✌

@TheChristianHardscaper
@TheChristianHardscaper Жыл бұрын
I always recommend people go with what they think looks best. Some don't really like the bold contrast and I am completely cool with that. I want customers to choose something they will not regret in the end. I suggest you keep looking at examples of contrasting borders vs non contrasting borders until you are sure of your decision, because it is one that you will live with for a long time ✌
