Finland officially becomes a member of NATO

Finland has officially become the newest member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. The country applied to become part of the NATO alliance following Russia's invasion of Ukraine. CBS News foreign correspondent Ian Lee discusses with Anne-Marie Green and Vlad Duthiers.

This is not the time for foolishness. Everyone should fear Russia. In 1940 Finland lost 11% of it's land in the Winter war (which actually you should try to get back). Russia has no right to choose Finland’s future; that’s up to the Finnish people. That should definitely not be considered provocation. Maybe if one doesn’t invade their neighbors, other neighbors won’t be tempted to join NATO.

My concern is that Putin is willing to take it to the nuclear level in order to obtain his goals. I've heard that Putin has cancer and is dying. I don't know how true that is. If that's true Putin will use nukes against other countries rather soon I would think he would anyway. That way in his mind he'll be the greatest leader in Communist Russia's history. Even surpassing his idol Stalin. Remember Stalin killed millions of his own people. Putin will give up millions of Russian lives by going nuclear. Just my thoughts.

Hopefully Sweden's NATO membership application could be finalized either sometime this year or next year. Remember that for a few years, Greece did block Macedonia's memerbship into NATO and the EU, with Greece only allowing/ratifying Macedonia to join NATO in 2020, after Macedonia agreed to change their name to 'North Macedonia'. Hopefully once Turkey and Sweden settle their disagreememnt on Sweden's support for Kurdish groups (or at least come to some kind of compromise), Turkey would ratify Sweden's membership. Until then, NATO (specifically the US, UK and other Nordic countries) should provide some security guarentees for Sweden whilst their application is still ongoing.

Meanwhile Poland is receiving 96 Apache attack choppers from the USA, Ukraine is receiving 50 combat vehicles from Sweden, B1 bombers have been sent to Norway from USA, 13 MIG-29s have been given to Ukraine from Slovakia, Poland is receiving MQ-9 Reaper drones from USA, and Challenger 2 battle tanks from Britain have arrived now in Ukraine.
