The only critique is Scandinavians are immune to American "cold" I was in Norway in July wearing late fall American clothes and it was really cold, while the locals were in shorts and tank tops. So when they say "you'll be warm in that loue , prepare for a polar expedition .

Thanks! I’ve done a fair amount of tarp camping, but when I came across these I have been intrigued.

Just a curiosity, "loue" is an old word for seagull, I don't know the etymology but maybe it is because the thing flies away like one in high winds. ;) It is useful in wooded area. In open area a full "kota" (Sami for a teepee) is much more useful but also a lot heavier. A.E. Järvinen was known as a hunting author.

Wow, that is so cool! I am glad you are exchanging gear and ideas with like minded people around the world. It really helps us old red necks expand our horizons!😂 I have always been interested in Lavue shelters after watching several videos on You Tube about them, but I didn’t want to fork out the coin when a plow point with my tarp works just a well. Thanks for sharing and look forward to the next videos on it.😊

Looks okay for fair weather but when the wind & rain rolls in you're screwed. If you set up with a ridge line you could probably stake the peak down and get more cover...I'll stick with my 10x10...more versatile. Thanks for always showing us great content and new things we don't always see Dave!

Man, in the seventies I had just that Mora hunting knife. Just a little shorter than yours. I bought it in a local Järnaffär ( hardwarestore ) in Värmland Sweden. I was a young teenager than and my famaly had a house there. We are german, but we spent every free time in Sweden. Unfortunatly the wooden handle of the knife splits one day, and so I threw it away. I went with a Mora Classic instead, Mora for sure, which Istill have in use. It just is nice to see tha bad boy again.

How to make a natural brown dye that doesn't come off with water for a white net that I wove I want this thing more camo so brown... so I asked ChatGPT and this is what it told me, what do you think of this? "You can make a natural brown dye that is water-resistant by using tannin-rich plant materials combined with an iron mordant. Here's how: ### **1. Choose Your Dye Source (Tannin-Rich)** Tannin binds well to fibers and helps set the dye. Some good sources of brown dye include: - **Oak bark or acorns** (boil crushed acorns or bark) - **Walnut husks** (black walnuts give a deep brown color) - **Chestnut hulls** (rich in tannins) - **Alder bark or cones** (yields a warm brown) ### **2. Prepare the Dye Bath** 1. Crush or chop the plant material. 2. Simmer in water for **1-2 hours** until you get a dark brown liquid. 3. Strain out the solids and keep the liquid. ### **3. Mordant the Net (Iron for Colorfastness)** To ensure the dye sticks and becomes water-resistant, use an iron mordant: - **Rusty Nails + Vinegar:** Soak rusty nails in vinegar for a few days to create iron acetate. - **Iron Sulfate (FeSO₄):** A quicker option, available in gardening stores. ### **4. Dyeing Process** 1. **Pre-mordanting (Optional but Stronger Results)** - Soak the net in an **iron mordant solution** for 30 min to an hour. - Rinse lightly and proceed to dyeing. 2. **Dye the Net** - Soak the net in the brown dye bath while **warm** (not boiling) for several hours. - Stir occasionally to ensure even absorption. 3. **Fix the Color (Post-Mordanting)** - After dyeing, dip the net in an iron solution again for deeper color and water resistance. 4. **Dry & Cure** - Hang the net in the shade to dry completely. - Let it sit for **at least 24-48 hours** before rinsing to let the dye set. ### **5. Optional Waterproofing** For extra resistance to rain, rub **beeswax** over the net or soak it in a mixture of **linseed oil and turpentine** (common for waterproofing natural fibers). This method will give your white net a lasting brown camouflage without washing out easily. Let me know if you need adjustments based on materials you have!"

I guess it's a requirement to have a fire to keep the critters out of your Loue. I love the minimalist design.
