Twin-Turbo Jet Boat Rips the Water! Finnegan's Garage Ep.96

Our fourth lake test was a success! After troubleshooting the ignition and fuel systems that plagued our last test session, we finally got to rip across the water at 90 mph and there's plenty of speed left in this beast once we get the air/fuel mixture tuned perfectly and stop the turbos from trying to melt the fiberglass boat hull. This video has lots of tips about troubleshooting V8 engines and it ends with us having the time of our lives in Game Over, our twin-turbo jet boat.
Note: I live at the lake and nobody was near me when we tested the jet boat. We are staying away from people just like you are, I just happen to be fortunate enough to live in a rural part of Georgia. Anyway, thanks for watching and for liking and commenting on this video. Game Over is a 2017 Peterson Placecraft fiberglass Jet Boat hull
It's powered by an aluminum 711ci Sonny Leonard Hemi with twin Precision 88mm turbochargers. It features CP pistons, Carrillo connecting rods and a Bullet camshaft. T&D shaft rockers and Manley valves and springs are in the heads. The engine and boat is wired completely using Wirecare.com and Techflex products. It runs on 118 octane Rockett Brand racing fuel. The efi is from Holley, the ignition is MSD and the jet drive is a Dominator pump built by B1 Racing. I welded the headers from a kit by Stainlessheaders.com.

The way a man cuts a trash can in half says a lot about him. Pro-fab quality band saw with sticker collection that most dream of and even shimmed for a level cut... Attn to detail (ATD). That welding station is beyond neat and handy too. Plug tray shows more of that un-laziness and ATD. This type of boat is built thin like an ironing board to make it light... just don't back up fast or water comes over the transom and sinks it... scooped up by the cavitation/trim plate... also avoid the huge wakes from larger boats... or ships !!!!

As someone who recently got an ultrasonic cleaner i can say that thing is _very_ useful. Cleaned everything from a string trimmer carb to coins and keys (it being pandemic and all) to a water filter manifold. Did learn one neat trick, too: if you need to clean something food-safe in a cleaner that was used for engine parts, put minimum water in the tub of the cleaner itself, then put your food-safe items in a plastic cup (empty sour cream containers work great) full of soapy water, then put that cup in the cleaner. Same goes for if you want to use a more potent cleaning fluid and don't want to fill the entire tub with it. And as someone who got stranded on a boat due to carb bowl filling up with water (long story lol), with no backup power you should only go out as far as you are willing to paddle :)

I grew up around the older drag style jet boats and man they are fun! The Hawaiian hull with a big block chevy that I rode in most would do about 75 mph and it really took some pump work and trying different intake and carb set ups and hull work around the intake grate and finishing the bottom of the boat with a 80 grit orbital sander type of finish to help break suction to the water supposedly. So much fun!! Your boat is absolutely amazing!!

My Dad told me years ago to install a strong magnet to your OIL filter (and pan) to hold any steel or iron particulates from going back out. (of the filter). I do it to this day....:) Change the oil and re-use your magnets !

Just a tip, regarding the oil filter, cut the filter paper and gauze away from the steel housing with a set of side cutters, and squeeze the section with a vice, then open it up and lay it flat, you'll see the very fines of the filtered metal/composites if there is any. Run a magnet over it if you find any metal dust, it will give you a stronger indication for troubleshooting.

There's a little more then that with the turbos the intercooler the jet drive the trailer which is a hella lot that is a nice trailer and then the paint and the Holly EFI the throttle body fuel pump there are alot of good parts on this boat

When you send your oil out for a oil analysis thay will tell you what metals are actually in the oil and it might narrow it down to what's wearing.you should try it just for a cool KZbin video.

Just a quick tip, When using an Ultrasonic cleaner to clean up plugs, ensure that no moisture gets into Centres as they will pop them out the porcelain and leave the steel threads in your engine block lol!!

After your remapping the engine sure sounded good into the mid range RPM . With that cubic inch motor and the turbos you have plus the components you used to put the motor together you have got some very serious HP potential in this unit, I see some different impellers for the jet in your future! It sure feels nice when things are getting worked out doesnt it. I have a 22 Ft Donzi with a built blown 502 ci GM in it and there was a lot of getting MORE FUEL to the motor when I added the blower and like you the feeling when things started to finally get settled out felt very nice! Great looking setup you have here and like I said unbelievable potential!
