For all the muscle guys who don’t know about them and want to learn, here’s a tidbit on the jz. The jz started as a Yamaha designed 2.5 liter twin turbo engine, the 1jz non vvti. Then Yamaha again helped design the 1jz vvti which was a single turbo 2.5 with a better head(not as good as the 2j tho). Then Toyota took the Yamaha engineering on their own and made the 2j, which is why 1j blocks are stamped Yamaha and 2j’s are not. So the 2j gets pretty complex lol. It’s a 3.0 engine that came twin turbo or na regardless of which one you had. Basically you had 4 options for the 2j. Ge and gte(non turbo and turbo), then vvti and non vvti for each. For the gte, an oversimplification is that the non vvti was the performance standard for a long time because the aftermarket had problems controlling the vvti heads, other than that, they’re more or less the same. For the ge though, it’s a little more complicated. Early engines were non vvti, and had a distributor. The non vvti head flows better on one side but worse on the other, and the bottom end had the same rods as the gte, higher compression pistons, without oil squirters. Of the ge, this is the best stock bottom end to make power with, but the heads can pose a problem given the flow and distributor. The vvti ge has the weakest bottom end of them all. Skinny rods, weaker pistons, etc. however, the vvti ge head flows better on both sides and has the bonus of vvti and coil on plug ignition, making it the better head to build regardless of the bottom end. Basically for a budget setup with low hp goals, stock vvti ge, head gasket/studs, then run it(400-500 safety limit typically). For budget big power, non vvti ge bottom end and vvti head(600-700 safely usually), for no holds barred, whatever forged bottom end with a built and ported ge vvti head. All that Aside, I absolutely Love this car mike! Would be sick to see some sort of angle kit or something when you redo the suspension. Maybe convert it to like s-chassis or e36/46 front suspension? I doubt you’d do it but since all the factory metal is gone it would be rad, especially considering the aftermarket support for those chassis!
@ghomerhust2 жыл бұрын
excellent background, thanks! the Jz engines are just a joy to play with and listen too.
@yucannthahvitt2 жыл бұрын
That car is probably 800lbs heavier than an S chassis, and they don't have particularly beefy front suspension as is, he'd probably trash even aftermarket control arms. Building strut towers and mounting points and getting the geometry right is probably way more work than he is willing to put into that junk anyway. Best bet is probably just getting it as close to not totally clapped out as possible with current type of setup. In the spirit of what Freiburger says; get it working, don't get it right. This car drives but that's about all you can say for it, getting the suspension to the other charger's standard would be bare minimum for getting it working.

First off, this car is GREAT!! I wouldn't change much, if anything at all 😁 That said: The GTE is also oil squirted, you can drill the GE block for oil squirters (like the LS people do), and add con-rods = No longer a 500$ motor. Another goodie is Accusump so you can prime the oil before starting, and I personally CAN NOT stress holding the clutch in when starting, you'll save the heck out of the thrust bearings (on any motor). Some people go in expecting Toyota's to take it all without reservation = Not the case, then again, not my money 😂 That said, with my Toyota heritage squared (I love the things, sue me), don't get me wrong when I say I'm seeing major discrepancies here. Just what level of care is this, SWEATING while checking the oil filter on a "shitty" N/A 2J block, but blow up a Hemi every meet = No stress? 🤣
