Here's a new interview with Jean Baptiste Maunier, done on Oct. 9 2007. He made the list on "the 100 people who move France", and he talks about when he was in a choir in Lyon and his experience.

They were talking about the fact that JBM was a model for a generation of kids in France as he became popular with his voice. The woman asked if he started to love music at 12, but he answered that he played music since his first grade. he played flute and sang. He only decided to join a choir at 12. choirs became more spreadout after the movie "les chorites". They ended by talking about a movie that he's was going to do. I guess he has already played in it since this video.

I'm probably late to respond, but first, he said that he start the choral in middle school, because he wanted to do something different from the others. And then, he said that he's very proud to give a second life to the chorals in France thanks to The Chorists. Hope it helps you, and sorry for my english, I'm French :)

@MeKiwi3 So, first she asked him how he discovered choir, how things started for him. And he responded by saying he's practiced music since he was very small, since pre-school where they did lots of performances such as playing flute and singing. And then when he went to elementary school he wanted to do a different activity than the other students by joining a choir. Lots of the other students did sports or theatre.

He said it's a great pleasure to portray Guy Moquet for the first time and that it has been a very enriching experience. And to learn more about who he was has taught him a lot.

He said yes, he's proud, of course because there were a lot of choirs in France before the film, Les Choristes, but it's true that after, they've really become more extensive and he thinks it's been talked about to establish a choir in every school.
