Living in Minnesota, we have a few cold days in the winter where everything shuts down (-30°F / -34.5° C and below) and sometimes it will get extra cold (-60° F / -51.1° C ) and I can't help but think "I've never (or rarely get to) shot (shoot) in those conditions before. So I'll kit up and run outside to my range and about 30 minutes later I'll decide that's just too damn cold and I've experienced enough of it. But now that I've watched this I realize I need to start going out more in mid to late fall and run through the pond on my range before shooting in roughly freezing temperatures while in full kit. It just has to be done, especially with my KP15 lower. Would have gone full WWSD carbine but I love my BCM uppers and recently rehomed a lower so my fluted ELW upper needed a new home.

That first stage brings back memories of the exercises during my service time. Standing without any protection or guard on the bcak of a moving vehicle, trying to flag down a pursuing vehicle, shooting from the turret of a truck... Phew, that's adrenaline! Second stage reminds me of that time we had a casualty transport in a group of 8, but with a living comrade. First improvising a stretcher with jackets and long branches, carry him 600m, then shooting at ranges from 400 to 50m.

Awesome match content guys. I'm thrilled to see a match in the freezing cold wet and snow. I think because of our most recent conflicts everyone assumes that sand is the worst thing in the world for equipment, but wet freezing conditions bring their own challenges. I'd love to see, though I'm sure no one would want to make, a match in 20 below. That's when things really start breaking or seizing up. Frozen fingers, icy gloves, and light triggers can make things really interesting. You'll be wishing for 8lb triggers you can feel. :) As a side note it seems that Glocks and all other striker fired pistols don't hit the primers with very much force compared to most hammer-fired guns. I've had light strikes in a totally clean gun in Sub-Zero temperatures just because of a little lube in the striker channel. Browning Hi Power with the original mainspring for the win in the cold, especially with hard primers.

Living in Alaska I can tell you there are tips and tricks to keeping a firearms from freezing up. If possible, always keep firearms outside. A cold pistol or rifle will get condensate on it quickly if it goes from freezing weather outside to a warm humid room inside. If the firearms need to come inside, let it warm up, then spray it down with a good spray lubricant. You have to spray everywhere to displace the condensate on internal parts. Moisture inside a firearm will not dry over night, so do not depend on that.

Ha, had a student where I work do a similar thing with his Galil this past weekend as Jari did with his AR. Student loaded a magazine with 7.62x39 but had several 5.56 cartridges in it as well. Even managed to fire one (can't explain how that even worked) and when it did, the case head separated and the 7.62 round that tried to chamber after it wouldn't insert fully and the bolt wouldn't go into battery. I suspected a case head separation but never thought it was because he had mixed calibers in his magazines, which we discovered later. The gun had to be disassembled to clear it. Great fun.

Captivating to watch! You were talking about light primer strikes when your pistol malfunctioned. Watching from the warm and cosy licing room, from this camera angle it looks like the slide not closing fully. Could it just be carbon build up getting moist and then sticky at freezing temperatures causing additional friction? (At 26:50 the front of the slide seems a tiny bit behind the front of the frame, while at 26:52 (when you are able to fire) the slide is as far forward as the end of the frame.)

Mr. Kasarda, I am a Chinese Internal Martial Arts enthusiast. In my opinion, you, and your colleagues, are practicing, or perhaps creating, a true martial art. You: 1. Have clear lineage 2. Can explain not just how, but why, things should be done 3. Clearly document, analyze, and make available the results of your experiences. 4. Encourage students to individually study and adapt both yours and their own experiences to their environments.* 5. Emphasis that at all times and in all places martial artists must conduct themselve as thoughtful and responsible citizens. 6. Know of the martial intent and can summon it at will *, I believe students would benefit from the standing practice San Ti Shi (“Trinity Posture”). Correctly done, this posture allows the student to meditate on the martial intent. We can't all go to Finnish Brutality, but we can all visualize doing so in San Ti Shi. Congratulations to you and your colleagues on your successes which I am sure will continue.
