It's fun how some countries were getting prepared to possible war with Soviet Union and Russia for dozens of years. But after all this is Ukraine who is fighting back from Russia while honestly started to redevelop it's army only like 8 years ago. I forgot the actual reason she gave, but we snaked Finland in the past. I googled it too, and it's a known thing. I know this is anecdotal, but every time I've met fins online, they tell me the same thing as well.

And one thing that we associate with swedish is the compulsory swedish lessons, most of us are really rubbish in speaking swedish even after years studying it in school. @@upnorth2421 Yeah, I read about the swedish language in Finland debate, I thought that originated from the dislike for sweds too, but that's probably ignorance on my part. My brother's fiancee is actually really good at swedish, I would've never guessed she was from Finland, had I not known, she loved close to the border, though. I couldn't find a concrete thread or article about it, but it had something to do with how we did Finland in a past war, WW2 or after, not sure. If nothing else, people tend to have a need to hate someone, someone that can conveniently be blamed for ones selves flaws, just like the west is doing to Russia now. It's perfect, we can blame all our problems and failing economy on them.

Well, finnish army...I Led ambush as a military cook with my fellow cooks and truck driver and command post secretary after when I noticed enemy team guerillas closing to our positions when i was taking a leak near our positions. It was happy coincidence for me to spot them before they could spot me. But nevertheless, even cooks and military officepeople learns how to make an ambush. I quietly organized my fellows to form a half ring to geographical sweetspot and waited. And acted with my often neglected fellows. Thats important, to have every branch of military to have ways of self organizing and skills to endure In battlefield. When you have these special contractors working for you, it just isnt the same.

The Finnish National symbol is a lion. Finns would fight to keep their home like one. If not to keep their country, to atleast not to shame their grandfathers’ or great grandfathers’ memories before them when they were faced by the Soviet attack of 1939. The Finnish grit of the winter war especially has been been a point of pride for Finns. The Finnish military has been preparing for repeats of such an event for the better part of the last century. Attacking Finland would come at great cost to the Finns but would be of greater cost to the Russians that I know. With all due respect, the ukraine military is like Finland lite. The Russians know this too and that is why they will remain on their side of the border, if sane decisions are able to be made there.

@@iantubby3825 Ukraine has a capable military and a lot of western weapons and good tactics. So does Finland, but it also has the advantage of absolutely nightmarish terrain for Russia to attack. Ambushes and chokepoints everywhere. Endless forests and lakes and swamps. Very few major roads on the eastern border and every bridge designed to be demolished in case of an invasion. Many command bunkers and army depots built into the bedrock. The Russians would have no hope of victory. It would be yet another huge meatgrinder for them.

Good mood "gung-ho" video. But what happens when shit hits the fan? Nobody knows. But one thing is certain, the "miracle of Winter War" will not happen again - back then Finland was very rural country, the men were used to being outside and especially skiing. Just sayin' as a finn over 60yrs old, age means I am no longer forced to battle duties. Not out of other duties on homefront, just FYI :)

We're not as different from previous generations as media has made you think. The older generations always think the younger ones weak. I doubt it was any different back in your days, because it never is. As for any lack of outdoorsmanship now compared to the past, do you think the case is any different for the Russians? Or do they still live in the 40s while we've moved on? We are now far better equipped and better trained than we were back in 1939 and the Russians have (clearly) not improved much in quality compared to what their Soviet era army was like 80 years ago. They have in fact grown much weaker, they no longer outnumber us nearly as badly anywhere but on paper, corruption has eaten up and rotted their armed forces for decades. No need for concern old man, we will guard this nation the way our fathers and grandfathers did. The defense of the freedom and future of the nation is a duty every generation accepts and a debt we owe, regardless of what you may think of us.

@@chryssalidbait8765 That story is a bit of Finnish propaganda. "Beat them" how exactly? Allegedly, if I understood it correctly, the Americans were doing some airborne landing dropping of infantry by helicopter and their side's intelligence hadn't spotted that there were "enemy" troops (Finns) in the area. So said marines essentially walked through the terrain not expecting any enemy forces and got caught out in the open by surprise. Doesn't really matter if you're Russian recruits, American marines or a platoon of fire breathing dragons if you end up in that situation. You'll get gunned down. So it's true the Finnish troops won that fight, but they also had every advantage in the book. A trap and the element of surprise.

I'm sure the Finns will fight bravely but let's be real. Finland has an army 1/12th the size of Ukraine and much less real combat experience. It would lose.

When Finland fought in the Winter War and in the Continuation War. They faced much greater military power than Russia: The Soviet Union in Stalin's era. Back then, Finland had only 3,700,000 population and the Soviet Union had 170,500,000 people. + Back then Finland didn't have a proper military. Don't forget Finland fought against Ukrainians aswell (Ukrainians were destroyed easily in the Battle of the Raate and the Battle of Suomussalmi. Finland caused 1,500,000 total casualties and they didn't even get as much help as Ukraine is getting. You clearly miss many key things: - Finland has the biggest willingness to fight in Europe (the poll) - Finland has much more modern weaponry and they are better trained (that's why the Finns are training Ukrainians). The most basic Finnish conscripts won the US Marines in the NATO exercise: That's the basic level of the Finns - Finland is hard for any attacker (the country is like a fortress, Finland has kept their eastern side very harsh and there are the biggest modern tunnel network across the country (Ukraine on the other hand was a brother nation for Russia and there are literally many highways between those 2 nations - Those Finns have been preparing to face Russia, for decades (unlike Ukraine) Do you really think Russia today is greater than the Soviet Union was in Stalin's era?

Back then they weren't prepared, now they are. It seems like you know nothing of wars, you've got child's logic. The Soviet Union tried to take whole Finland and that's why they describe it was a moral victory for the Finns (the best possible outcome against Stalin's huge military power which was a threat even to the United States and crushed Nazis)
