Hey Roy, that's excellent. I do hope that these videos are of use for you guys. Am I correct in guessing that your family is half Finnish or have you simply moved abroad at some point after your kids were born?

@@RoadtoFinnish My father was Finnish citizen when I was born, I had Finnish/Canadian citizenship until I turned 22 and am now in the process of reapplying to get the citizenship back and for my son as well. We are still hopeful to visit Finland this summer so he could check out some schools and the area before moving in 2021.

@@RoyRissanen Oh that is so cool to hear! Im sure you would feel like at home here - Canada and Finland being more similar than what people usually think. The Finnish government has now started to move back some of the restrictions set up because of Covid-19 and we just have to hope that the border is opened so that you guys could visit. Things change so darn quickly and its impossible to predict what's happening in a week or two so we just have to keep our fingers crossed 🤞. Please let me know if there are any topics that you are struggling to find information on. Id love to make more videos based on suggestions that people leave here in the comments.

@@RoadtoFinnish Off the top of my head I would like to know more about the differences now for EU and non-EU students, also if there is any difference between EU and Finish citizens studying in Finland as those differences may extend to someone that may want to do a term in another EU country

Hei Oliver, thank you for your videos they’re really helpful. I’ve got some question to the discounts of flights with a student card: Do you know which airlines are supported? And is this discount valid for all destinations or only a few airports? I‘m living near Frankfurt (Germany) and maybe would like to head home for one or two times during my studies at Aalto.

Hey Nadine and thanks for the great question! I do not have the full list of airlines, but on their site about student discounted tickets ISIC lists at least these airlines as examples: Finnair, Icelandair, British Airways, Emirates, TAP Portugal, Etihad, Qatar, South African Airlines, Air New Zealand, Cathay Pacific, Japan Airlines. Good to note about short flights. ISIC mentions this on their website: _"Especially when comparing short return fares airlines' student offers do not vary much from standard prices but if you need flexibility and want to travel with open dates then student ticket is your choice also on short routes."_ More information about the tickets in general + how to find these discounted flights can be found on the ISIC website: www.isic.fi/en/benefits/student-flights/ I hope this answered your question 👍

Hey Sarah and thanks for the question. if you do not yet have your Finnish personal ID, you cant log into the app just yet. [edit] You can still use the Frank App even if you dont have a Finnish personal ID but you can verify your student status and get a login profile only after August 1st. Frank states the following on their website frequently asked questions page: _If your studies are starting on upcoming Autumn semester, you can verify your status earliest at the beginning of August, when the study year starts 1.8.2021. If you cannot verify your status right away, please try again later._ About verification without a Finnish personal ID number they state the following: _You can still verify yourself as a student to our service! Just select "No Finnish personal ID number?" and our service offers you the option to verify yourself with a student number and your last name. Please note that your last name must be written exactly as it's in our register. If you have any problems, contact us on info@__frank.fi__._ For any other questions about the student card, please visit Frank's FAQ page: www.frank.fi/en/faq/

Hey Oliver, This summer I will complete a voluntary social year in Finland, a so-called FSJ. There is also an ID card and I wanted to ask whether or what the card looks like. Normally you also get discounts and perks, because you do social work for a year without pay and therefore live very modestly. Can you help me with that? Because unfortunately I have not yet seen a website where all discounts are collected Greetings from Germany, Sarah

Hi Oliver! I have a question, since I'm an international student here in Finland and I plan to get a student card using the Frank app, can i also get the benefits of medical services for example the Dental one? Thank you for answering! ☺️

This is an excellent question! You can definitely use the student health services even without a student card. Student health services are not tied to a student card, but rather to your student status. What you have to do is to be a member of your university's student union. The information about your membership will be automatically transferred to the FSHS (finnish student healthcare service). I actually have a separate video explaining everything you need to know about this topic right here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iKmYooCdp7BsnZo

You can browse the page without logging in. However, if you want to log in you need to first sign up with your university credentials. So you have to be already admitted to a university in Finland in order to use the service.

Thanks for the informative video Oliver.I am a student from outside EU/EEA who have been accepted at Savonia UAS and I am in process of applying for the permit.I have already been registered as a present student.Am I eligible to apply for the student card right now?Or do I need to be in Finland to use the service?

Hey Sasha and first of all huge congrats on being admitted to Savonia! That is great news and im sure that you are going to enjoy yourself there 🥂. To answer your question, yes you are indeed allowed to apply for a student card after you have registered as an attending student. Do note that the registration might take a while to show in the databases so it might take a second for the student card providers to recognise you as an active student. If you have any problems ordering a card, wait for a few days and try again. Again, huge congrats on being admitted. This made my day 🙂

Thank you for making these videos! May I ask if there is a housing option where you may bring a dog? I´ll find out whether or not I´m accepted soon, so I thought I´d ask beforehand. My family has a well-behaved, sweet dog with hypoallergenic fur, 50cm tall. He is fully dependent on me because of a recent accident my parents were involved in, so I can not leave him there sadly. Thank you in advance for any information!

Hi Fiona and thanks for the question. Im so sorry to hear about your parents, my best wishes to your family and I hope that they get well soon. About your question. Yes, there are student apartments that allow pets. We actually have a mid sized poodle and she is allowed to live with us in our Hoas apartment. This would of course depend on each individual apartment so when you apply for one, please make sure to check the box when asked if you have a pet. You can see an example in this tutorial that I recently uploaded: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hYnUgJ6YnbuVqa8 Also, ill keep my fingers crossed in hopes you are admitted 🤞. Do let me know when the results come in.

Hello Oliver, I am in international Non-EU student and I have granted admission to the Master's program at Aalto University now I want to enroll myself in the university and in the program. But as I do not have Finnish online banking credentials (e-identification ), a Finnish electronic ID-card, or mobile certificate I am unable to do the enrollment through OILI service. Can you suggest to me as an International student how can I enroll myself to the program? Thank you.

Hi man and sorry for the slow response. I tried to look this up, but I didn't find an exact answer to your question. My recommendation in this case is to contact Aalto student services (not admission services) for more detailed instructions. They usually answer email within 3-5 days now that they have a lot of contact requests coming in. They email is studentservices@aalto.fi Sorry for not being able to solve your problem directly, but I hope you get this resolved promptly.

Hey Brian! An ISIC student card will work just fine in Finland :). Just make sure to get a student union sticker to the card from AYY offices in the Otaniemi campus. If you haven't done this yet, you should get the instructions for doing this next week when the orientation week starts 👍. Btw, sorry for the late reply. I noticed a bunch of old comments just now and im trying to answer all of them in bulk.
