Loved that. Talk about hammering the downbeat in the midsection. Maybe when you mentioned style of the performance made me remember this since you asked for suggestions, but this compilation artist album had an Elton John song turned into a gospel performance. I found a good live performance under "Oleta Adams - Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me (Countdown, 1991)" on KZbin. There's some low audience talking but that stops or gets buried soon during the performance.

Yeah, Kurt tuned all over the place...2, the bassist, Krist Novaselic revealed years later that Kurt's first childhood instrument were the drums, & over his life he developed a habit of "clicking" his jaw to keep time, even after he got older & had long since moved on to guitar, he kept the habit, i dont know ur language, but ive seen it throw off several classically trained reactors who are singers...lastly...that pause & sigh where he catches his breath... *that* is the most famous sigh in all of rock history, so epic & heartbreaking, + that momentary vacant stare😞....anyway, lovely & great reaction, like & subbed:)

Nirvana, or more accurately, Kurt often used non-standard tuning, usually Dropped D or Alternate tuning 1, 2 or 3. Then there are songs like the album version of "Polly" in which he used a cheap, old guitar from a thrift shop. Polly is also the song which Kurt's vocals were actually recorded whilst he was laying on his back on a couch in the studio

First off...Hi!. The MTV unplugged series created some amazing moments in music. I was never a big Nirvana fan but this performance was pretty special and you got to see a bit inside Kurt's tortured soul here. Anything of his from Soundgarden, Temple of the dog(thats him and Eddie Vedder's band) or Audioslave would be excellent to review. Happy Friday..
@matthewgoodA12064 ай бұрын
One thing I love about bands from this era is they obviously weren’t super-by the book. From Kurt’s bluntly spoken first line, to even playing out of tune as you found, they often did things outside of expected music industry norms. But that final raw, screamed passage is incredible. He truly channeled something awfully deep there.

There is a garage version of this song from the late 80s where Mark Lanegan was teaching Kurt about Leadbelly. Thats a pretty common in blues and rock to tune down a half step. On a side note. A lot of the 90's bands would play in a dropped D tuning. Where only the low E is tuned to D and the rest are standard. Bands like Nirvana, Tool, Alice in Chains would use it often.
