I love how cheeky these songs sound, from Säkkijarven Polkka to Njet Molotoff, it’s like the Finnish knew how absurd it was for them to be slapping around the Soviets as much as they did.

Eggs and Sausages were the names of two strongholds at the Kiskis hills. At first, the Finns conquered both hills, but after the Russian counterattack, they had to give up the Egg. Tiltu's road ( road from lake Röhö ) refers to two announcers of Soviet radio propaganda, who were called Tiltu by Finnish soldiers. In the continuation war, catering lotta Elsa Lampi served in the same unit at Uhtua as Erkki Tiesmaa, who wrote the song. She was the song's lotta "Lunkreeni", Tiesmaa changed the lotta's last name because Lampi did not fit into the rhymes.

To me it's quite the contrary - the very un-warlike, cheerful feel of accordion tune makes martial music done to it all the more vicious. Hard to describe why, but nothing spells to me that merciless, hardened and purified-of-emotions grit of going to war than the joyful, cheery starting tune of _Säkkijärven polkka._

Translation thoughts: In the last part, "riuku" means pit latrine and in this context "liuku" means poop instead of slide. Oh boys, damn, bring my mask. Here people have built pit latrines and pooped in them.

"Vitamin pills" are mentioned in the song. Soldiers, especially officers, were often on drugs during WWII, which possibly led to them killing their own men in psychotic fits - look up Adolf Ehrnrooth
