Nice to see Layne on S Tier. Very underrated along with Alice in Chains(compared to Nirvana and Pearl Jam). Yes he was a Yarler but he did it naturally and didn't lean on it like most bands of the 90's(looking at Creed), he could actually sing. Incubus is a deeply amazing band. A great group of stand up individuals. DJ Killmore actually enhanced the band quite a bit.
@muenchhausenmusic2 жыл бұрын
Agree. A DJ isn't only record scratches, they're basically a producer onstage who can provide all sorts of background sounds that producers would add on a studio recording anyway. Which, if the DJ weren't there, would either be missed live or have to be done with backing tracks. But bands like Incubus, LP or LB can bring the full sonic richness in a live setting, and I think that makes a difference, albeit often a subtle one

“I bite my tongue every time you come around, cause blood in my mouth, beats blood on the ground” is one of my favorite lyrics. It’s such a poignant way to describe a toxic relationship.
@apallace2 жыл бұрын
The reason Layne isn't higher on general rock singer lists is because his body of work was so small. As iconic as their Unplugged performance was, it's kind of tough to watch considering what his voice sounded like from 89-92. Those are the years to search for concert videos because heroin was really starting to affect him in 93. He had such a toxic relationship with his ex fiancée Demri and when he got clean in 93, his dad came back into the picture to mooch drugs and Layne never kicked it again after December 93. He would just hold up in his condo playing video games. Was too embarrassed, but just couldn't kick the addiction. 1989: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oma2eZycar6on80 1990: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aobciWChnticmbs 1991: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m3WopXl_rrCcqpI 1992: kzbin.info/www/bejne/onzSip58oMSHjdk The producers and sound engineers would ask him to do another take, Layne would say "Nope, you got your take." and Layne would be right. People said you could hear Layne's voice over all of the stage noise too.
@leehayman88742 жыл бұрын
Agree, underrated vocalist.
@apallace2 жыл бұрын

Weiland & Amy Lee are both S-Tier ... I'll explain why: Amy Lee transcends her genre and is rated by critics, "normies" and even R&B fans as one of (if not the) best voice of a generation. She inspired girls to get operatic vocal training and had guys questioning their self identity due to singing questionably emotional lyrics. Lol. Also, more people know HER name at this point than the band's; her covers and solo work get millions of views. Scott ... Finn's assessment of his vocal ability is correct; he's an absolutely great voice. Phenomenal song writer. He was in a band with SLASH and basically soaked up all of the limelight, as much as Axl did! His stage presence was unbelievable. He was a completely miserable asshole (look up his interviews, his no-shows and his attitude) yet he's STILL beloved. That guy was on his way to being a top front man for his third wave, which is crazy. And YES, people thought STP were poser grunge and they STILL bought them, heavily due to Scott. And yeah, for their genre, the Pistols were great.

@muenchhausenmusic2 жыл бұрын
@@jackson.6282 Haha, yes! But equally guitarrist and producer also. I mainly talked about the drumming because Finn pays attention to drumsounds as well, though, hehe... 😁 If I remember correctly, he even likes piccolo snares. Are you a drummer as well?
@jackson.62822 жыл бұрын
@@muenchhausenmusic I really want to be able to get a drum set. I’m a multi instrumententalist with bass being my first instrument, and I’m playing guitar a lot right now. I love your comment because it shows you really listen to the music, I barely ever see comments of people talking about the drums on songs so I just had to guess you were a drummer lol

So, I met Courtney Love at a party once... she's honestly like that drunk girl at the party who loves everyone and is extremely handsy... you know the one. That girl who hangs on everyone and tells you she loves you WAY too close. And that's how she was acting early in the day before she had had anything to drink. She seemed nice enough from my brief encounter, but an absolutely weird woman. As for Howard, absolutely chill, nothing but great things about him. Jared Leto I only happened to meet him briefly, talked to him for a few minutes with some friends in Malibu, and in that exchange he was absolutely a nice dude. Now, several years later all his psycho shit came out and honestly, as nice as he was when I met him, none of the cult shit surprises me at all. He reminds me of that overly nice "spiritual" dude with an agenda and a half. Never got to meet any others from this list, but I'd say this is the most solid list I've seen so far.

Finn, I love all your videos. I’ve been watching Punk Rock MBA for a couple of years now. You’ve already hollered at me before. I love this 2nd channel too. I really would LOVE for you to make a video on V.O.D. That would be awesome. I know you like them. Plus All Out War and stuff on your wallpaper is the shit. Layne Staley might be the best vocalist of all time, but I’d have to argue Kurt too. You’re the fucking man. I love how many shout outs you’re getting online right now. I tell EVERYONE about your channels 24/7. You deserve it. You’re a true student of music in general. Props Finn. 🤘🏻

Yeah, I agree... Scott Weiland is underrated vocalist. He was such a musical chameleon, nobody could mix up the glam rock sass with punk edginess. If you don't think he is a good vocalist, just check out when he sang with The Doors - nobody did a better job.

While Johnny rotten is incredibly overbearing, he at least attempted to blow the whistle on Jimmy Saville, so thag rises him by a tier imo

Glad you gave Johnny Rotten and The Sex Pistols some love. They are still one of my favorite bands. Johnny had charisma in spades fronting them. I'd probably kick him up a level and would love to have him over for BBQ.

Most of the time when you say, "I've never really been a fan of [insert band name]" I'm like, "FINALLY!!!! SOMEONE WHO UNDERSTANDS!!!" Not always, but I hate how I get so much shit for not liking a band just bc a bunch of other people like them...

STP was under-rated despite dropping a massive number of hits throughout the 90s. Core was as solid an album as they get in rock.

Alyssa has mad respect from me. The first time I saw her was on MTV Made where a high-school girl wanted to learn to scream and put on a show. She is a bad ass role model and really gave it her all in turning this girl into a front woman

A totally forgotten and underrated vocalist is Martin Fry from the band ABC. They had a lot of hits in the 80s but have since been forgotten, but I saw them live back in 2016 and they were amazing. Martin is in his 60s but he’s still an incredible vocalist, and the band themselves are pretty underrated for 80s pop standards

Am I the only one who didn't know that Everlast was in House of Pain? I'm floored. My dad introduced me to the Everlast album like forever ago (god knows where he found this as he's a middle aged white English dude who listens to Stevie Wonder and The Jam). I had no idea.

Jump Around by House Of Pain isb't a white anthem. It's an anthem for anyone. Anyone I know would go crazy to that shit. And no, universal appeal does not make it a "white people anthem."

Now that you've said it I totally see it 😂😂😂😂
@muenchhausenmusic2 жыл бұрын
I've re-watched that segment for the third time now and I can't stop chuckling, this is gold 😁 You can indeed see how Finn is still slightly hurt. It was probably tough, though, getting your hopes build up like that with the nice Corona and the fish taco, and then the crushing rejection... Although, with Brandon being the gent that he is, he was probably very nice about it, so it's probably morea very sour aftertaste in Finn's mouth. Especially then seeing Brandon with somebody new just one week later. What's worse, Brandon took the next person on THE EXACT SAME DATE, bonfire and fish taco and all, although it was Finn's idea, goddammit!! But don't be too jealous, Finn, bc judging from Incubus's latest output, Brandon hasn't found happily ever after just yet (the song 'On without me' I find honestly really touching). So there's still hope, or at the very least some sweet satisfaction that he is not happy either. OMG, I think I just realized the appeal about writing fan fiction 😂😂😂😂😂
