my my my I miss the good ole days 47 years ago when you had to pick between Voit - US Diver Rockets or Scuba Pro's Jet fins ! I laugh when I hear some mention "travel Fins" it seems foolish to waste $$$ to buy a light weight pair of fins to travel with , in hopes to save a few dollars on baggage fees . And now you will need to get use to using a different set of fins that don't move like your favorite pair of fins . I still LOVE my US Diver ROCKETS and I put a lot of miles on them every year Scuba diving and snorkeling . Keep in mind - my local dive store won't allow you to test drive the fins ... you need to buy them and they don't take returns unless the are defective !

Thanks for such a useful video. Me, personally, ended up using OMS slipstream, after trying Mares Excel+, Subgear Rake and Tusa Solla. They are not as heavy as Scubapro Jetfins but with all the benefits you get from an actual jetfin. The polymer they are manufactured from has proven to be very longlasting, as well as the springstraps.

I use the RK3 with wet suit and the RK3 HD with dry suit. The HDs are slightly stiffer and my size mediums are 1/2 kg less buoyant per fin. By coincidence I also have the Quattros; I like them with a frog kick but find them a bit long for shuffling about on a rib or manoeuvring in a wreck.

RK3 are actually a very good fins for drysuit. I use them and I know many diver that do here in Switzerland and all very happy about them.

@PS-vy6ln2 жыл бұрын
@@Litehamer You'd be best with the RK3 HD version for drysuit diving. They are a bit heavier stiffer and negatively buoyant so stop floaty feet. I have them and they are great in the lakes. The shorter fins are tougher on your legs if you are diving in currents though. I have longer fins for sea dives. Hope this helps

Hi Steve, Great video and review as always. A few years back, I switched to the Xdeep ones, starting with the medium and simply great in wetsuit, perhaps too stiff for some but quite easy and flexible for those who dive a lot, also slightly negative. They also have the soft model, similar to the RK3 and the hard ones, which I use with the drysuit (although the medium would work and calm waters). Check them out, you'll be impressed I think. Cheers

I missed the Mares power plana in the performance test. Anyway, very interesting comparison. Thanks for your content!
@sidemountscubadiving3 жыл бұрын
Hi Juan, the Mares power plana I found to be a fairly heavy fin, it is somewhere between the Quattro and a pair of jet fins in terms of its performance. I think they now make different stiffness levels of that fin, the one I tried a few years back was quite stiff, so not ideal for me. I preferred the Quattro or RK3 instead. But definitely worth a try if you can get your hands on a pair to test. Cheers, Steve
@breakJSL3 жыл бұрын
@@sidemountscubadiving Thanks for your comments Steve. I read somewhere that the power plana have a slightly better performance against currents than others and that's important where I dive (in Tarifa), so definitively, I will check it myself. Bests, Juan.

Hi Steve, I am enjoying your videos. I am currently using Mares Avanti Quattro fins. I am wondering if you have tried the Gull super mewXX or Gull GT fins? The manufacturers claims that it combines the power of a jet style fin while combining the flexibility of the rubber material used.
@sidemountscubadiving Жыл бұрын
I have not tried those fins, but on looking at them I would go for the Gull GT fins as the others I doubt will perform that well. The GT model does look good but I bet they are quite a heavy fin in the water so probably only okay for some drysuit divers using thick exposure suits and want the extra weight at the foot. Maybe someone else reading this will have some more information for you. Regards, Steve

I've heard that apeks makes a HD (high density) negative pair of the rk3
@sidemountscubadiving2 жыл бұрын
Hi Lee, yes the Apeks HD version. I am actually using everyday at the moment, see them in this photo album. They are slightly negative (not heavy) and nice to use in a drysuit, out of the all the recent fins I have used these are probably the easiest fin for anyone to use to help master all the advanced finning techniques. The normal non HD version, just called the RK3 I prefer to use when I dive in wetsuit that or the Mares Quattro. Cheers, Steve

Hi Christian, try the Apeks RK3 it is lighter and probably one of the best fins for a lot of divers. Do not get the RK3 HD they are negative, so if you need a lighter fin then the RK3, it is also shorter than the quattro too. Regards, Steve

@sidemountscubadiving Жыл бұрын
ScubaPro Jet fin is good but they are very heavy, even when using a drysuit. For me it would have to be in very cold water and thick exposure protection and even then I find they are heavy to be honest, the drysuit divers that don't probably have a lot of air in the lower leg / foot.
