Baking soda in vinegar. Wipe or spray on, leave for 30 mins & then scrape off. Get the scraper with a wider blade. The one you are using is going to scratch the window.

Fiona you need a wider blade.. at the hardware store you can get a KIT= plastic holder with razors . it looks like the razors in a shaver but could be sharper .. point is it is in a holder for good grip and will scrape of 1inch at a time quite easily.
@laurat4977Ай бұрын
Yes. I've used 1" blades for removing paint and all kinds of stuff from glass surfaces. The smaller blades are good for working around curves and into crevices. It's still hard work.
@louonUTАй бұрын
@@laurat4977 Exactly .. But no doubt Fiona with her determination she won't take the time to go to the store - she is on a mission ! LOL I wish I had some of her determination. I have so much to do around here and so far I can't get past looking at the work.
@maureen14Ай бұрын
If you use a blow dryer to heat it up really well, constantly, as you're peeling it off, it'll come off so much easier.
@fionaheskethАй бұрын
I tried that but unfortunately the sun has baked it on over the years and it pretty much fused with the glass ❤

Snow mobiling is safer than skiing at our age but if you haven't ever skied, try it on the bunny slopes but with lessons first. I haven't skied in years but still remember the amazing feeling of flying down a hill on a beautiful sunny winter day.

Please be careful not to cut yourself, dear Fiona. You are making me nervous. I use a straight razor to clean my oven top, and I am always very cautious doing that, afraid of cuts as well. I bought a product for glass called "Goo Gone" that works really well, I don't know if you can get that there. God Bless you, Graham, and all your loved ones.

Window tinting is probably what you need, so you can see out but not in. You can buy it here in rolls, happy to send you some. Great job as always Fiona ❤❤ PS Fiona if you use a hear gun or even a hairdryer to heat the plastic up a little, it will pull right off. You can do it in sections but the heat will lift it up and do the work for you. Hope this helps

Fiona, I don’t know if you saw my last message but my husband and I have a window tint shop if you use just a drop of the soap or baby shampoo and a bottle of water spray bottle and spray that on there it really does help with a bigger flat blade, the scrape off thatlayers of lamination
@tmtb80Ай бұрын
1000% yes
@fionaheskethАй бұрын
Tried it and many other products even heat, nope nothing would shift it except brute force ❤
@Adrieballard44Ай бұрын
@@fionahesketh that’s definitely true. It’s just that the soap and water with a little bigger blade helps the scraping go by a little easier and it also makes the glue gel up so it doesn’t flake everywhere too but yes, it is 100% elbow grease that gets it all off, I was just trying to give you something that might ease the process a little unfortunately when it starts to delaminate and come apart in layers you’re done when I have customers ask me how long does a removal take for a car I tell them it could take a half an hour or I could take five hours for buildings, it can take a couple days sorry
@MissWeeLassieАй бұрын
Have you tried spraying the glass with some WD40? It's something that seems to be pretty good at helping 'loosen' all manner of things. If you've a can of it lying about, might be worth a try to see if it 'softens' the stuff you're trying to remove.
@stephenmagnus9379Ай бұрын
WD40 is a thin "Pentrating" Oil .... WD40 doesn't affect ... Acrylic, Polycarbonate, Polyethylene, Polyester & Vinyl ..... Also, you probably don't want it soaking in to the surrounding wood either ...

We have snow tubes, where about 2-4 people jump in and then slide down. Reminds me of those large tubes used at waterparks, etc. Try that out before attempting to ski - much safer, plus you learn what you personally can and can not handle. Good Luck!

@pamelalipscomb8332Ай бұрын
When I was young, we used to have a similar problem after taping the windows for hurricanes. If you waited too long to get it off, it had to be razor bladed off. We would get the two edged razor blades, tape well over one edge so it didn’t cut you and scrape it off. At least it gave a wider scraping surface than those skinny blades you are having to use.

Would a hair dryer to the film make it easier to remove?
@dianat119Ай бұрын
Fiona, I feel your pain as you scrape those window. We had a grant to build an extension for our disabled daughter. The builders installed two plain glass doors, they were horrible. So I went to B&Q and bought some lovely window film. It looked great. A few years later the edges looked a bit tatty so I decided the film had to go. There were lots of tips on how to do it on YT. None of them worked so like yourself I had to scrape it off. It took forever! The mess was horrible! Never again will I ever use window film! Voiles from now on! Love to you and Graham, enjoy the rest of your day. 👍🏼👍🏼❤❤
