Summary(Important Notes) of The Fiqh of Salah Episode 23: Fiqh of Eid Prayer The default position of the Madhabs is that Salah tul Eid is فرض كفاية. This means one group of people in a community must do it and when they do it, the whole community is forgiven. If no one does it, the whole community will be held guilty. This is the majority position. According to Hambali Madhab, if 40 people in any city perform Eid, then the rest of them are sinless. The second position is that it is سنة. The third position is that it is فرض عين(individually obligated). This is the only Salah for which the Prophet(SAW) commanded the menstruating women to participate in its gathering (not prayer). This evidence is used by one group for regarding it as فرض عين(individually obligated). The timing of Eid Salah is from when the sun rises until the Zawaal. This is also the timing of Salah tul Dhuha(a sunnah prayer). The Sunnah is that it should be prayed on مصلى (a large ground outside of the city). It has differed among scholars whether this is intended by the Prophet(SAW) or it was just logistics. The Sunnah is that Adha should be done early and Fitr should be delayed. The Zakaah is only given in Eid ul Fitr before the Salah. It is Sunnah to do ghusl, cleanse your body and wear perfume for the Eid Salah. There is no Azaan or Iqamah. The Hambali Madhab and Shafi Madhab say that the Eid Salah will be 7 Takbeers in the first Rakah(including the Takbeerah tul Ihraam) and 5 Takbeers(excluding Takbeerah tul Qiyam) in the second. The Hanafi Madhab has 6 in each. The rest of the Madhabs say you should raise your hands every time you do Takbeer but the Hanafis say you should do that only on the first Takbeer. Then, the Imam recites Surah Al-Fatihah loudly. Once the Salaam is done, the Imam gives the Khutbah. Khutbah tul Eid is the same as Khutbah tul Jumuah except that this is done after the Salah but Khutbah tul Jumuah is done before the Salah. This is the majority position, which means there will be two Khutbahs. But Ibn Taymiyyah’s position is that Eid Khutbah is one, not two. This is because Eid Khutbah has never been narrated as two, it’s always been narrated as one. There is no Sunnah prayer before and after the Eid Salah unless it is prayed in the Mosque. In this case, there will تحية المسجد before the Eid Salah but nothing after it. Whoever catches the Salah before the Imam says the Salam, he can make up whatever he has lost from the two Rakahs just like Eid Salah. If you miss it completely, there is no Qaza(making up). It is Mustahab(recommended) to do the Takbeer from the night of Eid. In Adha, you do the Takbeer after the Fard prayers in the congregation from the Fajr Salah of the Day of Arafah(9th day) to the Asr of the final day of Tashreeq(13th day). The other position is from the Fajr Salah of the 10th day till the Asr of the 13th day. The way that Takbeer is done is to say it twice. This ends the entire summary.
