So it's not that I don't understand the point, its that he doesn't know what he is talking about. And brave of you to assume that my dragons are fire breathing. Or that they have wings. The chinese sure as hell didn't. That is kinda the point, people do not have the same concepts because they do not have the same perspectives! Which is exactly the idea Zahabi does not understand. The greeks and the romans and the norse had a pantheon (even judaism was a pantheon back in the day), and they had a brutal concept of what their gods wanted (war, amongst other things). Even the hindu religion have a pantheon of sorts. So not everyone and everything has the same concept of the divine, and JUST because you can conceptualize something doesn't mean it immediately exists. Which is again, the idea that Zahabi is proposing. Not for everything, but for god specifically.

My question is If everything humans ever created needed intelligence to come about…yet none of those things are even a fraction as complex as ONE human being…how did all of existence come about without intelligence? What is the source of that intelligence? Humans have to admit that every organism has a certain level of consciousness and comprehension and it’s arrogant to think that the limit to human consciousness is the limit to consciousness at all.

I admire Firas and he is a much greater Philosopher than I. However, it seems that in this argument he is conflating a posteriori knowledge (the experience of red can only be known through experience) with something that can be contemplated, discussed, and “known” without experience, ie God. I don’t need to know or experience God, I just need to understand the concept of God, in order to discuss God in a meaningful way, because humans all have the same capabilities when it comes to sensing or experiencing God. However, I DO need to know how to see red in order to discuss it in a meaningful way, you know? For example, a blind atheist could understand what you mean by God and discuss it with you, but then they couldn’t do the same with the color red. Another example would be discussing the concept of a government with someone born and raised in an anarchist society, they don’t need to know government a posteriori or live under it in order to understand what it is it in a meaningful way. Of course, they won’t fully understand it until they live in it, but it’s different than the color red, because if this person was blind, they wouldn’t understand it at all. This is why I don’t think you can make this argument in good faith. Firas is conflating God with a posteriori knowledge, assuming everyone already possesses such knowledge, hence why they’re able to talk about it. I don’t think the concept of God/Allah (in the Western sense) is like that at all.

The problem here is you do not understand his argument, before you understand the meaning of the word God, you already know God, the only reason you are able to recognise the meaning of God, is because you have experienced God, Your assertion here is that you do not need to experience God in order to discuss God, your assertion has no evidence to back it, n fact what firas is saying right now is refuting your point. A blind man cannot discuss or understand the concept of colour with someone as they have never experienced colour, they could regurgitate what they have heard other people say but they would never be able to understand it or talk about it in a meaningful way If someone is born in an anarchist society, and you discuss government with them, the only reason they could understand what government is is by taking from things they have experienced in real life, and putting them together to get the idea of a government, but they will not have a true understanding or idea of government. For example, they understand their idea of order and power and laws, from places where they have experienced them being done, although not in the setting of a government, they can understand it. Your point is as follows, I can discuss a person about captain america, although he doesn't exist and I have never experienced him, I can still discuss him, here is the problem with oyur argument, captain america, is a culmination of things we have experienced, being altered by our mind We see experience strength, then multiply it and give it to captain america we know what the colour blue looks like, what armour looks like, what clothes look like, so we can put together what he might look like But we cannot discuss a fictional character, who is essence is made up of parts a human has never seen heard touched felt of experienced, I would not be able to explain and discuss that fictional character to you as I cannot compare it to anything you have experienced. for example, here I have retying retying has 500 ert ert is tryipon + erting I cannot explain any of those terms using anything in the english language as there is nothing in the language to express what those qualities I mentioned are , the only way i could is by using other things from object I am talking about. Why? because you have never experienced it. It’s so funny that he uses this argument, but if there is a God it may be way beyond the comprehension of human consciousness as we are biological and resultantly must obey the physical laws of the universe. If this god exists beyond the physical space we inhabit, then what’s to say that they could even be understood. What if the reason atheists can converse about god is not because we have an experiences something "like" god or we have a "fitrah" but becuase monotheistic religions evolved out of polytheistic religions as imagined myths that helped humans maintain large social orders. If you are making the assertion that the universe and everything encompassesed within is a result of divinity it's your responsibility to prove it. You can't say that for us to live in what we perceive as order and to have intelligent life we must come from intelligent life. You've only gone and run into the argument from change by asserting that intelligent life requires an intelligent pre-cursor. Because if it takes sentience to create sentience then how did sentience come to be? You can't get any more circular than that.

Like many philosophers, Zahabi takes God to be the 'ultimate' thing in whatever ontology he's working in, at which point it sounds almost mystical to describe, as our language is limited. But, in the very next breath, such people will make God so concrete and human and limited. "God is angry", "God has a shin", "God is a He", etc.

He is saying, if you discuss a concept, the fact that you understand the meaning behind that concept, means in some way you have experienced that concept. Anything I discuss with you, you have in experienced in some sort of way. All falsehood, is not actually false in and within itself, there is no such thing as true falsehood, because that would mean it doesm't exist, and you cannot discuss something that doesn't exist in any sort of way shape or form, as you would have no way to understand it or comprehend it, a All falsehood is, is a mixture of different truths put together, to get the wrong understanding For example you believe a mirage, is actually water, now that belief is false, and discussing that belief doesn't mean you believe it, but, that statement is an acknowledgment of multiple things, 1.That water exists, and looks a certain way, 2.That there is an object or thing in front of you, that resembles water Now when a person acknowledges those 2 things, then he concludes, that because it resembles water, it must be water, he has made an assumption, that is falsehood, meaning he has conflated 2 true things which contradict each other, or do not exist in its true sense, the mirage is not water, but he has assumed that, and me discussing that with you, doesn't mean you believe the mirrage is water either, but the fact you understand, what a mirage is, in that it is a object that resembles water, and that water looks a certain way, means you have acjnowledged that water exists and you experienced it, and you understand that something exists that resembles water. in the same way, when you discuss God(specifically the one described in Islam, as the Christian one is anthropomorphised), your are admitting to understanding this concept of God, yet having never experienced anything like God in the tangible existence, you are acknowledging you have experienced God. Your counter may be, that we see a characteristic, such as knowledge, then we multiply and project that, saying God is the most knowledgable, therefore we didnt experience God, we experienced knowledge then made that into God, now for other conceptions of God in other religions, where God has been conflated with material characteristics, such as beign a man, this would make sense but for the Islamic conception of God, which is this one divine perfection, this undeniable definite truth, nooone has experienced in the material universe, yet everyone has experienced it, whether they realise it or not, in fact they experience it every second

He hasn't said anything particularly different to what many philosophers have said before. You can look at his explanation as combination of the first premises of the ontological arguments (we know god as we can think of him) and plato's understanding of the forms.

Surely all religions are calling to God but they may have different conditions/attributes? God as in the creator of the universe. The uncaused cause. For me Islam makes the most sense in that it calls to one God. No partners or offspring. The only other religion that has that would be Judaism but I don't know much about that.

There is a 'singularity' which set all of it in motion, and scientists cannot explain what this singularity is or how it propelled the big bang. While there's probably a God, from experience practicing Islam hasn't shown me God. There are interesting teachings within Islam, but Allah is not the true god most likely. I know praying to Allah my prayers have never been answered, nor has there been anything practical. Whenever I practiced Christianity in the past I had similar results. Even when I went through Judaism it was similar. Whatever God may be, the chances are it's Way beyond what any religion teaches, or that the prophets of various religions define their experience. Maybe the religious prophets just had a mystical experience that was connecting to God which they wrote according to their culture, and background

Imma throw this out here but Islam isn’t the best religion around it harms so many people as it throws away individual liberties and has been known to condemn people to death for having a different religion in a country who’s national religion is Islam I get that the collective of people is important but so are individual rights I don’t get why people are so ok with defending religions that have been responsible for ruining the lives of millions of people When religion was always meant as a means to convince oneself of a afterlife so that death isn’t scary Firas Islam is just another horrible religion pushed by horrible people If the individuals that lead the country and those that fall under them are horrible people then it trickles down and can affect the society that others are brought up in I’ve had friends of mine die because of who they were and who they loved If your idea of the collective before the people is how Islam is and society should be run then your a horrible person for defending such an idea

I think these are the simple points: 1. It’s impossible for a person to deny something that they oppose. 2. If you oppose that thing it means you already have some association to it or point of reference. 3. This means you have some beliefs about it or at the very least some knowledge of it. 4. That alone denotes its existence. 5. That makes you in opposition to said thing and not in denial of its existence. This was the argument - denial of existence. I agree philosophy can seem like it’s going in circles but it’s more like layered circles and that can sound confusing. The argument here is well defined and connected.

We would have to examine the book and include in that examination the other books (Bible, Torah) of monotheistic foundations. But the main takeaway here is that in order to examine anything, we would have to be willing to seek and only accept what’s true. That’s means we would have to be prepared for our current ideas or position to either be false or expanded upon. We only need to explore in search of what’s true without any other motivation.

@@sigurd2498 Firstly, it is important to make the distinction between that which is real (which is what you said in your comment) as opposed to existence (which is what Zahabi was asked to prove, 0:06 in the clip). You have not defined 'reality'. The concept of 'aliens' exists, often children are exposed to this through tv shows or sci-fi novel. Adults may also understand this term to mean life in the universe. However, if you imagine a child who has never been exposed to any understanding of 'aliens' he/she will not comprehend what you are saying nor will you be able to discuss with them about it. On the other hand, the existence of a God the Creator, can be understood by children, even those who have never been socialised into a religion. Check out research conducted by Justin Barett (Oxford university) where this is proven.

Sir I disagree I am an atheist I believe in no God I could give a very detailed list of my reasons why I don't and never have believe there is one God or many different gods however I respect the fact and have taken the time to learn your religion and most of the major religions although I do not believe in them and knowledge is power however I have been declared clinically disease twice and been brought back to life I still do not believe in a god but respect the fact that you do regardless if you don't respect the fact that I don't

I see what you’re saying here. Faith is acceptance of the unknown and things you can’t see. But Faith is actually based on evidence. You may have experiences where you’ve been told to “Just believe” and that’s not how it goes. That is a very premature request when the intellect of the heart and mind haven’t been convinced at all. In reality faith is founded upon what is known from an evidence-based approach and then having faith in what is completely unknown is second to that. If we were to put a percentage on it it would be approx. 90% evidence-based (yes 90), and only 10% percent unknown. Conviction in faith is about certainty in the evidence. This is why the first step is to start questioning what is being said or presented with the objective of seeking truth. Truth is never afraid of being questioned. Falsehood, on the contrary crumbles when questioned. So maybe consider questioning with intent to find out what’s true and what’s false while being prepared to have your current understanding expanded upon or corrected.
