Fresh clashes erupted in France on Tuesday between protesters and police as tens of thousands vented their anger against President Emmanuel Macron's pension reform. The movement presents the worst crisis of his second term.
The day of nationwide protests and strikes called by unions is the tenth since mid-January against the law, which includes raising the retirement age from 62 to 64.
After scenes of high violence last Thursday in Paris and over the weekend, French interior minister Gérald Darmanin warned there could be "fire and blood".
Henry Samuel followed the Parisian march from République de Nation and spoke to young and old alike about what was so awful about working until the age of 64.

If they have their own security team, and everything is under control, why don't they just start their own regime, issue their own currency/store credits. And pay themselves their retirement pension at age62? 🙄

I m French. I already need to work till 70 years. And i worked during all my i studies. And I had some sickeness and unemployement. But I started to work full time at 17 yo. Then i alternate part- time and full time during my studies for 8 years. Mainly full time, just a month a year part-time to be able to pass my exams. I got two masters. Which didn't protect me of unemployment, sickness and misery. All the part-time doesn't count in my retirement pensions. Same goes for unemployed period, sick-leave, parental leave, studies, etc... And that is without the new reform. If it goes on, i'll die at work. And a huge part of low wage worker dies before retirement age. A quart of them. That means that pension of dead low wage worker are financing the pension of superior classes that lives a lot older. And that is the situation before the Macron's reforme that want to add two years, and delete some criteria of hard labor that were before taken in consideration. It s a criminal law that gonna make the citizens die at work. When we are the one paying the most taxes and cotisations in the whole OCDE.

European and American is like apple's vs oranges. Uncomparable. European spend more times for studies. American spend more debts and not necessarily for studies. The economy dynamics of the two aren't supposed to be compared side by side because each got it's own pro and con.

Just a precision and major actually In France pension are not paid by the gouvernement, it’s not a tax They are cotisations between workers only, it’s a national mutualiste system Every penny of cotisations is directly given to the old workers No speculation possible And that’s the real point of tension, and it’s the will of Emmanuel Macron to put this public money very safe into the bourses and the market to let the private pension company speculate on the course of pensions Exactly how the U.S pension system work And we all know how the crisis of 2008 happened Too bad for Macron we are not a bunch of idiots that he thinks we all are, we remember

If this is the reaction of so many people it's a good idea to try taxing corporate wealth instead of squeezing the population. Yes, France has it very good. They have it better than many. That does not mean they should lose that. It's getting unaffordable due to greying population, at least an approach to tax real wealth. Otherwise what is the point? What was all the striving for? France be safe.

@@GeosRealityReport no, the reason theyre increasing their pension age is because Macron doesnt want to increase taxes, so this was his "only choice", but it seems quiet obvious that the french would rather have higher taxes than two more years working, money cant buy the time we have here on earth.

Shame our young people lack the passion and courage of the French young people . lf this had happened in the '60's they would have been out in force . ln these dumbed down times nothing seems to stir them from their apathy and complacency . A sad reflection on 2023 UK and the lack of concern for their future .

Why does France not want to do like other European states by raising the retirement age? Because we are for progress and not for backwardness in social matters. But everyone does what they want.

The soviets were based. Loved the gulags. They really knew how to deal with lazy people, criminals or those who refused to work. We need to stop coddling people who won't contribute to or in any way destabilize societies. If they forced the unemployed to work instead of giving them other people's hard earned money they wouldn't have to raise the retirement age.
