El Rancho was considered a fire trap back in the early days of Barstow's, Route 66 History. It's been remodeled and it's sad to see it going up in flames. Time for something new.

Heck of a fire at the El Rancho Motel. It wasn't as nice as it once was, being almost 80 years old, but it sure didn't go down without a fight. Ten agencies responded to the fire. When you build with old railroad ties, those suckers burn. 🙁

$10,000 to fix the door. Just to kick the door? No $1.00 for the kick $9,999 to know where to kick it. That is an old IBM joke. Does anyone have the data base where they know every rail car and locomotive still in service?

What's burning in Barstow
@scottfw71692 жыл бұрын
From Yahoo news, "The historic but recently-troubled El Rancho Motel went up in flames Tuesday, prompting a multi-agency firefighting response in Barstow and roughly a quarter-mile of Main Street to be closed. And now, Barstow Police Department is investigating the inferno for a potential man-made, criminal origin." note the construction material, "The motel was built by Cliff Chase and launched in the mid-1940s. It was constructed in part with wooden railroad ties, contributing to an old-fashioned wooden look and functioning as a callback to Barstow’s heyday as the High Desert hub of Route 66 and the railroad industry. The motel is rumored to have once been frequented by legends of Americana, such as Marilyn Monroe."

Usually they're just equipment moves between bases for new deliveries or training. Might be preparing for a large exercise, but nothing particularly concerning. At least, the Army isn't what I'm concerned with. The USAF and their recent string of crashes, on the other hand...
@truckerkevthepaidtourist2 жыл бұрын
the El rancho wasn't as historic as it used to be One of those rent by the month places it really went down the toilet sadly the last few years Take a good look at the reviews online on Google you can pretty much see the real strong reviews were from people who were like transients. Lousy reviews were from many of the disgruntled tenants. Now they're saying the fire is very suspicious think it was set
