Crews were dispatched to a reported house fire in the 3100 block of Pulaski in New Chicago, Lake Station 1 and 2 were also dispatched. On arrival heavy fire was blowing from most of the house and unfortunately two cats and a dog perished in the fire. Crews made a quick knock using two lines. One baby and an adult were treated on the scene for smoke inhalation. Investigators were working on cause and origin. Great job done by all!

If you don't believe in God, don't read on. Our shed caught fire at 3am in the morning, if it wasn't for our neighbours the fire would have spread and killed us all. They knocked on our door to tell us our shed was on fire. Thats the 1st thing God did to help us. Our shed was burning up in flames and we had so many memories and precious things we've lost. The 2nd thing that God did to help was, I prayed to him to send help. He did, he sent rain... A couple of days after, we were looking for things that had survived. The last thing he did was save a little wooden nativity scene.. No scratches or burn marks, what so ever.. Nothing! And when wood collides with fire, you know what happens. My mum and I believed God helped us that night. All our memories may be gone, but we are all ok.

The idea frank is to get every call as close to perfect as possible to minimize risk and hazards. Instead by skipping and ignoring quite a few roles and precautions they increased the risk of danger or hazard. Not exactly a good practice. The practice should be professionalism.

@@adelefarough5123 it all depends on variables. For example that would in my area be considered a room and contents fire (1-2 rooms with contents burning ie.furniture) the ones you refer to as taking forever would most likely be for 1 of 2 reasons a bad dept or assumed structural damage that would prevent guy and gals from going interior to put it out post hast. In the event of exterior only fire fighting your basically going to burn it to the ground

sadly some volunteer depts don't have an operating budget and the cost of the SCBA have to be born by the individual volunteer FF and some can't afford them. Denis Leary has a charity that provides grant money for departments to purchase turnouts and SCBA gear. Some professional depts will donate their older gear to volunteer dept's when they upgrade.

@natespapa09 After nearly 44 years in the fire service, I think I know what kind of energy that fire had going. As I said, a few gpm is better than none. I once contained an involved garage fire with a garden hose. The next-door neighbour came over with his and we had it nearly knocked down by the time the first response arrived. So don't tell me a garden hose won't do anything. Yeah, it's not as effective as a 2.5 inch @180 gpm...

+E Vass A wetted surface is harder to heat up, if the heat source is far enough away. Heat causes faster water evaporation, which produces a cooling effect. You wouldn't expect your pan of water on the stove, to get very hot, if it sits on a different burner than the one that is putting out the heat.

***** Somehow, I imagine in the future, when firefighters are robots, I imagine they wouldn't be walking around for 5 minutes, trying to figure out if they should turn on some water. And if we had self-drive flying cars (and trucks), it wouldn't take 10 minutes for the firefighters to even arrive. Also, since robots do not get tired, I doubt that robots would randomly spray water as if their arms are getting tired, but would constantly calculate the optimal spread patterns, and have most fires knocked down in no time. Maybe it would be good if more truck-mounted spray cannons, were operated by a joystick. Also, can't anybody invent a cheap building material, more heat and rot resistant than wood? At least brick doesn't have to be painted, but brick isn't of much use other than for vertical walls, due to its weight and certain structural weaknesses. According to Star Trek, fires are quickly stopped on spaceships, by surrounding the area with a force field, to stop air from getting to the fire, so that it soon smothers upon itself. Any practicality to such sci-fi ideas? A household maid robot, perhaps might also be programmed how to fight a small fire. And might have scent-sniffers, to detect smoke or strange odors, to which it could go investigate.

Hell as a police officer I've had lights malfunction despute testing them before starting my shift. I even forgot to rurn them off after a stop, realized it after a vehicle stopped for me when I was at a stop sign. Humans error, its in out nature.

I woke up and my house was on fire. I made it out but my dog did not. I used to always say "when I have a fire I will do this". But when I woke up and I felt the heat I didn't know what to do. The fire pushed into my bedroom as soon as I opened the door. I crawled out and down the hall but fell down the stair well into the basement and broke my ankle. I crawled back out of the basement and through the main house. It was indescribable. After I got out and had air I tried to go back. but.

I'm sure it's happened to every fire department across the United States that they will forget to turn on the lights on the truck. Its happened where I live before, I mean its not hard to forget the lights if that siren is running. Some times you can't see the lights if the sun is shinning right onto the truck or something like that. Nice job though.

Nice to see the Firefighter Masked up and ready to go when he jumped out of the truck. Great knockdown guys. Time is everything as we seen by being ready as soon as they jumped out of the truck and making a quick attack. Other Dept's should watch this and use this as a Trainning video on what to do when you get on the scene. This should be SOP for all Dept's but what I have seen on KZbin , it's just the case. To much time is wasted getting ready. When I was Trainning Officer for a Volunteer Dept., I stressed the importance of being ready as soon as you stepped off the truck and discuss a plan on the way to the scene on who is going to do what job instead of running around trying to figure out what to do. Great job to the New Chicago VFD and to the Trainning Officer for a Professional job for a Volunteer Dept . Thank you Brothers!! Mike Past 2nd Asst. Chief

Firefighters still have to meet some kind of physical conditioning requirements don't they? Agreed..you never go into the IDLH without full PPE protecting your ass it's just common sense not to mention part of firefighter training..at least where I'm from it is. But they did do a good defensive knockdown of the fire.

As a member of a paid department why did the guy in the front seat jump out wearing a face piece without a mask, then gives up the nozzle later on. Guy with the garden hose had a better push. Sry about the dog

Nothing beats jumping off the rig for a house fire and leaving your SCBA in the seat. I also love sticking my face into a window with nothing but smoke and heat pouring out. It's like a cancer-face scrub. Feels great!

I don't find that funny, man, that's probably his house. Imagine that, dude, your house, all of your belongings, burning in a fire. He was probably trying to stop the fire from spreading to another house.

That's too bad that the pets died. I know you said that no one was home at the start of the fire so who were the adult and baby that were treated for smoke inhalation? I hope they were alright.

Just a couple of tips First truck to arrive Should have their Lights on when responding Code 3 not just the siren, also everyone except the engineers should be packed up when they get off the truck,

hey give the guy credit for doing something other than running around like a chicken with his head cut off. natural reaction is to stay away from fire. it takes getting used to to go inside one

@daysleeper47 At least he remembered his facepiece. It must have a built-in smoke filter. Also, what's with the chief on the nozzle (with no SCBA), while the black hats play back-up (packed up)?

House full of pets? Cats tend to rub against everything they see to leave their scent - probably knocked an ashtray off a table with a burning cigarette. Cats and ciggies don't mix!

Besides the First arriving engine Having its siren on but not the lights, all fire fighters except the engineers should have their air packs on when they get off the trucks period.

Yeah I get what you are saying. But my point was from a biological point of view there is no difference between a animal and a human. And i would try to rescue both human and animals.

I think some of the you tube critics should post THEIR scenes- so We can pick them apart and insult them... I can't quite figure out why somebody would mask up but not wear a pack.

@crapper1 It's called going direct and putting your ass on the line for someone ELSE. Most people wouldn't even consider doing that. Used to be the norm rather than the exception.

@steelgate663 I saw that too...but they're wearing mask. I don't get it? Is there a breathing aparatus that I don't know about? Or were they too lazy to pack out?

Really? Seriously? It's a house fire, looks like other house fires, what makes this house fire so different that it's disrespectful? If anything it's more respectful as it keeps people aware of what could be if they are not careful with their homes. Things like leaving certain electrical objects on, being shotty with their home wiring, forgetting the stove, leaving the smoldering cigarette, leaving outlets uncovered on not replaced when broken, things like that.
