Here’s an A shift fire video if you would like to watch it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/e36kgnp8hph1faM Just to answer a few frequently asked questions. 1. Broken Arrow Fire Department is a paid ISO Class 1 Department. 2. I don’t have any sort of go fund me information or any way to help the family. There was word that it’s a former firefighter. I can’t confirm or deny that. But y’all are great for wanting to help the family. 3. As for manpower, each engine and ladder have 3 personnel. Ladder 6 (the ladder on scene) had 2 riding, and one following in the brush truck. There were 3 engines and one ladder on scene. You can do the math. There were also 4 Firefighters between two ambulances that could help with fire attack.

There are so many serious errors demonstrated here not fault of the individuals you see here but a failure of leadership at the highest level. Please act now before it's too late! This is to reduce carcinogen inhalation (they also decon and doff the gear and stow it back in the cabinets on the ride to quarters and then into the laundry after each fire). Supposedly, response times are faster by waiting to Don on scene, but I haven't seen that data to confirm. The big question I had at first was why they didn't take down the garage door immediately since it was where the most smoke was being emitted? Of course, I wasn't there to fully assess.....
@dynodave3808 Жыл бұрын
This is why we always critique a fire incident ASAP. Starting out with the positive what we did right, and what we could've done better. For this fire I would start out with the positive Miraculously no one was injured or killed. Let's start out with full PPE with SCBA on before anyone gets near the the hot zone. Forcible entry in this case with heavy smoke puffing out the garage, you need a hoseline backup. Need to consider assigning a truck crew to vent group on the roof. Have interior group check for extension in the attic, if not done already. Keep in mind that heavy black smoke like that pumping out of the garage openning is fuel and it will eventually ignite into flames. It was good they went with a 2 1/2" hose, but too late in the game. Plus it looked as though the engineer was very slow in charging that line with water. More training is definitely needed with the stressing of full PPE including SCBAs, fireground operations, and use of saws.

If They Could Sue They Should
@OkieOtaku2 жыл бұрын
Absolute shambles? How? They did a fantastic job. Garage fires are a pain in the ass to get water on quickly compared to a regular structure. Yes, looks like there was a com issue trying to get the second line charged and that delayed them a bit. Other than that, they did a good job. Great teamwork, and they knocked it out. Let's break it down A: When arriving on scene, there no visible flames, only heavy smoke coming from the garage doors. This means it's in the garage. B: Only real way to access the garage to fight a fire there is the outside door. C: Once you own that up, that's fresh O2 and it's gonna just feed, that's exactly what it did. D: No they can't just open the doors, because now what if the fire is in the ceiling? Well you just put the door in the way! Wasting time closing it to cut it off anyway. E: Again, yes charging the second line seemed to have been delayed for some reason. You can see the hose crew several times trying to signal to have it charged. F: They had the first line charged fast, and went in to see what they could do from the inside while they created access from the outside. E: Fire was knocked out in what appears to be about 20 minutes. Based on the description and the little bit of chatter in the video, sounds like something exploded inside before they arrived, and there was a lot of combustible things that just fed the fire too. So again, how was this an "absolute shambles from start to finish" as you claim?

Not knocking this fire department, but this just shows that practicing to fight a fire should never happen on scene. Be it a vehicle accident, or other type of incident. Definitely something to learn from here is venting, and making sure you have lines charged ready to go when you need it most. This fire wasn’t a practice run at your local burn building used for training. This house could of had a lot less damage if you move quickly, safely yes but diligently. Timing is everything, and some of the tactics used like taking the garage door as a whole, perhaps if you can get to the release you could of maybe pushed the garage door up. Responded to a fire much like this one, years ago. Everything worked in our favor. Hydrant was located just 3 houses down. Combination department and had several extra personnel at the station at receipt of alarm. Attacked fire from inside out, with immediate effective positive ventilation. Fire auto ventilated out a garage door, as aluminum panels fell away as we were attacking. Garage very crowded, as most are. That was probably the 2nd hottest fire I had been in. We quickly realized the door between living area & garage was open. Firefighter quickly entered & closed door, as we were pulling lines, and setting up for attack. Got a knock down on it, but one of the vehicles had lit up, which is a HUGE amount of BTU`s in a confined space.

Holy crap! The key to extinguishing a fire is to hit it fast. These guys were not ready and were doing air packs on the lawn, and notice the f.f. assembling the hose on the lawn. He did not even have a nozzle on the hose! Every first in truck should be set up for fast attack. I.e. firefighters get ready in the truck while proceeding to the fire scene. Each truck has a short line and a long line prepared in the rack to pull, fake out, and charge. The driver operates the pump and charges the preselected lines. Ross, Training Captain, PGVFD. In Broken Arrows coverage area, the homeowner who expects to minimize fire damage better have garden hoses ready to go on each side of his homes, and really loud fire detectors with an outside siren!

@Billfish573 жыл бұрын
Never seen a more lethargic attack? Really? This is the normal way the union guys everywhere do it, it's rare to see any of them move any faster. I have many friends that do this in Miami and they take extreme pride in how slowly they get to a fire, they tell all the new guys to slow it down, the fire will be there when we get there, it's not going away, take your time. I hate that shit, I've lost a house to fire and the station was less than a mile away but they took so much time to get there and then they do this walk around slowly crap, putting on there gear like they could never put the gear on before the get to the fire, they wait to make sure it's a really big fire before they get suited up. I know plenty do great work, we all know that, but for the most part, they are way to slow to get to the fire and start putting water on it. I've been around small volunteer firefighters that do a much better job at moving at a pace like they really want to save the building and the stuff in it and next to it. Probably because in small towns, everyone knows them so if they do good, they will be thanked forever and if they are slow like in the big cities, they will know that too. You can watch 100 or more videos on youtube and you won't see 10 where the firefighters look like they give a shit about saving buildings from burning. Go ahead and look, it's all the same. These guys don't even keep their saws in good working order. They should always start on the second pull, I have many of those saws and mine all start, second pull. It's not like they don't have tons of time in a week to check out the equipment. I think in some sick way, a few guys don't want to put out a good fire too soon, they like the big ones.
@robertnewfield4583 жыл бұрын

You can see at 5:10 the fire is in the garage and is starting to be starved for oxygen, you can see how the smoke comes out, then is immediately sucked back in. Need to have at least 2 lines ready at the door, them either lift the door, it if it's stuck, have 2 guys with k12s at each end. They both make vertical cuts up, the center section falls down, opening the hole and have the 2 hose teams knock down the fire. Then check for extension and hot spots. Mop up and go home. Edit: at 5:45, whoever is in charge of maintenance, should be shot! That engine should have started in 2-3 pulls. I maintain our power units on our Hurst tools, and we've started them in 10 degree weather with no more than 3 pulls

perfect assessment..even more efficient, a decent sized hole saw bore through the middle of the door..less than 3 secs..you could have x2 bore holes cut twice the diameter of the hose in half the time it took them to even start that circ saw...that door alu is paper thin....astonishing...i genuinely thought it was a training video...sad ..this is the result of taking the vaccx probably..

My niece and her husband live in a newer home. It was struck by lightning. Caused a fire between the roof and ceiling. It went through the electrical system and ruined some but not all of their appliances. They heard the sound and felt the lightening hit. But at first did not realize it had actually hit their house. They both very young. It only took them about five minutes to realize their home had been hit by lightning, and they smelled smoke. But it took them a full fifteen to twenty minutes to understand their house was on fire , and then they called 911. And evacuated their animals and went outside. Very rapid fire department response. They broke a hole into the roof and were able to get the fire out pretty rapidly. Later they found a hole where the lightening hit the floor of upstairs spare bedroom, went through downstairs into living room and put a hole into the carpet. Right now they are living in a small travel trailer. They are supposed to be able to move back in their home by end of December. This happened in August. A real blessing no one was hurt and that the fire department reacted so quickly that their home was saved. They are building a new roof and support structure, ceiling in the one bedroom. And carpets that were water damaged and some smoke damage. They did an excellent job.

If you are going to take the garage doors TAKE THE DAMN GARAGE DOORS. Don't leave them hanging there for someone to get caught on or fall over or rip a handline

I like the way the ff on the left is completing his cut on the main garage door and the guy cutting across the top kicks him, twice. Sad

@@SHFDRescuemedic I was also amazed by this. And then the door just hangs there. One dude comes in to take it away. A second one thinks: yeah let’s take the door away! Oh wait that looks heavy, let’s pretend I didn’t see that and walk the other way again. Pffff really.. and where is the water when you open the door.. or why do they need to get dressed on the lawn still, before going in… let’s hope they change for the better, or at least get some command structure in place that works.. tell these poor folks what they need to do…

This goes to show that being a career fire fighter is no different from being volunteer, you have people that suck and people that are good on both sides

Every KZbin video you watch of American firefighters, they are slow, lazy and unprofessional. It seems that all of the US's EMS are this way, from cops to the ambulance. I guess in Europe, they all get 4 year degrees. In the USA, 6 months of training is considered good enough

I've seen volunteers which I've been both. Take more pride than they are.

Hope the FD will use this video as a training aid and not take it too personal. A lot of Monday morning QBing going on but to the casual viewer, this seems to be the worst example of firefighting. I am still pondering why one firefighter was cutting a Christmas tree out of the door while the other was cutting a square opening. Did not see much real communication going on at the start of this and even several occasions looks as though ego's or I am better then you mentalities in play. Hope the homeowners come out okay at the end of the day.

Cutting a triangle is quicker to get open and get water on the fire and keeping the door stable. Cutting a rectangle is for complete removal of the door but takes longer, and its more dangerous holding the saw over your head. You could also do one vertical cut top to bottom to simulate a swing door but you must cut it completely or it won't work.
