Tom Bailey had a devastating fire in the braking area at the NHRA Gatornationals. Drag racing isn't easy, with all the crashes, accidents, and fires that can occur - but thankfully Tom got out okay.
Also in this video, we fix wheelie bars with a pickup truck.

Everything else can be rebuilt. I have no doubt as much as you love this sport that this car will be back in action sooner than expected and better than ever. Thanks to Finnegan's Garage for showcasing your fire and the resulting new suppression system you will use. I am glad I found your channel. what makes me even happier is seeing that all of the safety measures in place kept this from being a bigger tragedy. In the 80's and 90's while I was still immortal and invincible I started my career as an automotive machinist in a small local shop here in Portland OR. We of course built licker dicker grocery getter engines but our hearts were in racing. I love to see the safety in place now compared to then. We tragically saw more than one driver seriously injured and worse. I love drag racing but never want to see anyone hurt. I will be watching to see what you do with your "go" in the future. So far I love the content.

You can always replace the car, but you can never replace (you) the driver. Look forward to seeing you knock down some more of them stupid fast time’s again soon. Thanks for sharing your super fast life with me/us as your fan’s Tom you’ve definitely gained one from the dirt racing world.🙏🏁🇺🇸👏

@@jasonsparshott7208 I posted this in another section and will repost here: Race cars that use a mechanical trigger system that conceptually is a hand held type bottle with a remote valve trigger and tubing to direct the agent to different areas in the car. There are some electrical trigger systems but I'm not sure if they can be had with a heat sensor. I don't know of any race car system that is tied into shutting down the cars systems. Most race cars have an easily accessible battery shut off though. In a race car, the safety pin should be out any time the driver is in the car and headed to the track because the chance of a crash and / or fire is much greater than anywhere a wall hanging portable fire extinguisher would be located. It takes enough force to pull the handle that accidental actuation while the driver is in the car isn't likely. I honestly don’t know the deal on drag car fire suppression systems but I do know commercial kitchen hood suppression and they are armed but can’t be set off with out removing pin . They do have a pin release solenoid that when a certain temperature is reached a cable pulls the pin automatically and another cable and solenoid activate the suppression along with other safety’s like shutting gas and electrical off and killing fresh air make up .

Ever seen him pulling a trailer with it? I do see what you are saying, but it is legal. You can see brake lights as he is staging and on the driver door you can see some kind of clip or dovetail "thing" for his mirror to mount. They drive it....drove it 🥴 It will be back, and I for one...hope they dont even paint it.😛

Hey Tom, I am very glad to see that you are Okay and came out of that with no injuries other than to your car. Doc was exactly right about delayed response comment, I was in a terrible fire with my wife and oldest daughter when she was less than a year old in 1991, we took in a ton of smoke, black tongue, nasal passages, Synge hair everywhere, coughing up black soot etc. we had to jump off a second story roof, needless to say me and my wife ended up at ER by end of day with 2 day stay in hospital and let me tell you when they have to take blood to check oxygen it’s painful because it has to come from a main artery which is deep in the arm to find, that’s one thing I remember well. So yes the doctor was right, if you are ever in a fire and take in smoke but feel ok please know that a delayed effect can happen hours afterwards in our case 8~10 had passed. I just wanted to share this to possibly help someone.

Glad you are ok Tom. Tough one to watch. A perfect example of why experience matters. Seeing the safety crew and stopping as close to them as possible shows amazing mental awareness. A very important lesson for all race drivers and rescue crews, reaction times matter at the tree and all the way down the track. This is an excellent video to remind everyone just how important the safety equipment is, yes it is expensive and most of the time a pain in the butt, except when you need it. So glad you are alright. Thanks for sharing this video.
