It is all about keeping moving. When you feel fire on your hands, it is most peoples reaction to move away, but putting it out is no harder and can burn you less. When we used to draft our coal fire with newspaper, it often caught alight and rather than risk a chimney fire, I just scrunched it out with my hands or slapped it out against my jeans. Seeing it the first time, people thought that I was crazy, but they soon realized that it did not cause any burns. With regular use, your hands will also harden up, but never use any cream, since it acts as a flux and transfers the heat far more quickly. Rubbing your hands with surgical spirit before fire performance helps to harden and dry them, but make sure that all the spirit has evaporated before lighting any fire. The biggest risk with fire performance is clothing. Never wear anything that is synthetic and can melt onto your skin and stick to your hands. I mostly wear denim and if I am practicing on my own, I borrow my boyfriends leather shorts (normally I forget to tell him LOL).

i herd from a fire eater here in australia that uses shellite i emailed him to ask and hey says that thats what he uses if he cant get ahold of the clubs special fuel that he is in but please dont take my word for it but if you do its at yor own risk
