Really, any units with lopsided speed does well in the arena. Arena enemies scale by your stat total, not level. That’s the reason Raven does well because his dumb stats like luck and res are low, but str and speed are just stupidly good. Units like Guy can do the about the same, because of his focus on speed.

Well yeah but also be extremely careful what you put him up against since that low luck stat can really screw you over, and Raven isn't the bulkiest of units. Best Arena units imo are archers like Rath, Wil, and Rebecca since the opponents they face have lower stats and they only face mages/archers, they can't face anything with only 1 range (Arena units cannot wield 1-2 range weapons except magic units.) so they are safe from swordmasters. The scariest thing they will face are nomads.

The main problem with Isadora imo is that she's a filler unit in a game that heavily dissuades filler units. HHM is insanely stingy with deployment slots, to the point that most of the time you can only bring about 8-10 people to a Chapter. In pretty much any playthrough, Isadora just isn't going to make the cut.

Lyn is my first Lord in Fire Emblem. I trained the shit out of her. She carried me all the way to the final boss. She couldn't damage it for shit, I'll admit but that's why I trained the shit out of Eliwood an Hector too. Got them all B rank in their secondary weapons. Lyn for me is still a great unit. Do I think she is the best unit in all of FE? No. But for me she is pretty great and my favorite character.

Playing Conquest again because of the corrinquest made me appreciate Arthur much more on Lunatic. From the dork that just can't reach anything above a 70% hit to a very decent dual strike partner + his str/spd pair-up bonuses to pick up more kills with effie. If you train his D rank to C for Chapter 10 he actually makes pretty good use of the Dual Club to kill Hinata in the front-line alongside his other axes that help clear the left side of the map agaisnt the ninjas and spearmen. Just... take off Gamble...

I really hope Mangs doesn't pronounce the wily-haired German scientist as "Eensteen" as he does with Geitz. ガイツ (ga-i-tsu) is pronounced like the American word guys, but with a T mixed into it (Guyts). I most of my FE7 runs I've never really used Canas. I'd always think he would be too slow to be an effective Druid, but seeing both Mangs and Mekkah using Canas has showed me that he has potential. Perhaps more so than Erk.

For Mangs this is funny also because he pronounces Kanbei with the ei diphthong when it's actually inappropriate there. This is 100% because he learned it from Americans.

I think Isadora's Performance is mostly counted on by how you play. I must say, in 1 range combat, she does very nicely, she doubles mostly everything since her con isnt letting her down with 1-2 range, (although javelins are still viable, they are annoyingly 1 speed anyway from the fe7 doubling benchmark.) and i've come to notice that she does quite well at the start of genesis and when choosing not to weigh herself down she doubles some of the enemies, impressive for this chapter. And also, her competition in the cavalier field seems lacklustre tbh, Kent and Sain are good, but fsr they never hit benchmarks in time due to their join time, Kent almost never gets to 12 speed before dragons gate, Sain even less likely, although he hits harder. Lowen is a good argument however, he can get to promotion very soon since he's really available, but his growths may fuck him over and you'll have to rely on either Kent, Sain or Isadora At least they're around for longer, but yeah, im a sucker for a pre-promoted paladin who I don't have to do much with to become good, she usually does something good in the chapter's she's in.

Wish Eliwood on Hector mode got a mention here. Between an A-Support with Hector making him tankier and having trio support between the 3 lords and arguably being the best user of the Afa's Drops (cause every stat on him matters) I think he's a bit better than people give him credit. He promotes at a decent time in HHM, can match the other Paladins and if you wanted to get Geitz or not have him be a liability in forced deployed chapters, you kinda need to train him anyways. Even a good user of the Body Ring so he isn't slowed down by Javelins anymore and doesn't eat as much of a speed hit with Durandal at the very end. I've come to appreciate what he can offer and he's currently for me, a major carry in my current HHM playthrough (on Cog of Destiny currently). In his own tale though he's bottom tier LOL

I’ve realized that Lyn is a bit like Edward. She either level up well, or gets screwed. Personally, mine was actually over your average Lyn, if not a little lacking in Luck. Definitely give her an Angelic Robe. If anything, she can be your plan B. Or plan C. I wish she was better, because she’s grown on me, but she’s tedious to level. Canas is definitely a unit your Ironman convinced me to try out. Yours did end up to have an ambulance called for himself, but he took out a lot of fools.

Also she is incredible cute and has a strong character, also got the needed sass in life. In my very first playthough, she demolished enemies. I’d say even being sword-locked before promotion, Raven is one of the top three infantry units in HHM. His offenses joining are absolutely ridiculous with 10-13-15 statline. Adding to hus bases, he has fantastic growths which will put him at about 13-15-17 by level 10. He’s an excellent candidate for early promotion which is very doable before you even get to the Dread Isle. Unfortunately, this doesn’t give you a strength increase, but 2 points in speed are more than enough to carry Raven through the entire game. More importantly, it grants him access to 1-2 range, his only glaring flaw before promotion. His High HP in concert with his high speed more than make up for his lower luck and mediocre defense. When it comes to infantry units in FE7 HHM, you obviously have Pent who is incredible, but Raven has about 10 chapters more availibility, and even early promoted, he’s usually superior to Harken by the time Harken joins. Raven easily makes the case as a top tier infantry unit for casual playthroughs

Raven is almost never superior to Harken by the time he joins. He needs to reach 20/10 to hit the same STR benchmark and while Raven has superior SPD, Harken is fast enough to double everything except like CoG Valkyries (Raven can't reliably double these with a Hand Axe either even with capped SPD because they can spawn with more than 19 SPD and he takes a 3 SPD penalty) which he can still ORKO with the Brave Sword anyway and if you promote Raven early for 1-2 ranged (which everyone should) then Harken only excels even more statwise comparatively. Raven's combat is really good but he's nowhere near Harken's level.

Most recently I have gained a new appreciation for Kyle. NEVER used him until recently when I did a IM of FE8. I don't know why. I guess Seth/Franz or hell even Amelia was all I needed for cavs but I decided to give him a try. My rationale was if he died there would be no big loss to my team and even if he sucked in combat he was a rescue bot. So I used him. I was really impressed. He's bulky and kills things. Mine wasn't particularly blessed and a little speed screwed but hell he was so reliable at fighting and not dying and coming around to assist with his rescue that I have a huge appreciation for him now. I would recommend him to everyone.

My own ironman run of FE7 made me really appreciate Hawkeye. I already knew he was good, but getting to his chapter after losing Oswin and Marcus to a crit and a stupid mistake respectively, with my shitty Hector being the tankiest unit I had, and with no access to Geitz made me realize just how hard Hawkeye can carry you through the second half of the game. Pretty much every chapter from that point on was the Hawkeye and Pent show.

Hawkeye makes Sonia’s water level so much easier. He can cross the water and take out the generals, nomad and Wyverns. He can also carry your thief to the platform with the chests on it while tanking a few hits. I would recommend hitting him with pure water or barrier though because Sonia will probably hit him with bolting.

I dont see how being supported is a counterargument, every character can be supported, it's not open to specific ones. He even talked about how raven supports patch his weakness or how geitz was dodging like a boss, you're not worse because supports reinforce you or patch your weaknesses, you're better because you have access to them. If anything i would argue that her ability to support good character like eligood and hector make her better, like how isadora saw uses for geitz. Still has her issues, but her supports arent.

People give to much credit to LTC in general, personally i prefer rating units on how useful they are in iron man runs, not only because of my bias due to thats how i like to play FE, but it also translates better to casual playthroughs, i mean, is LTC a strategy game anymore?, the fun part of FE comes of how you change your strategy when those 97% hit misses xD. Playing fast is good and all but, what is the difference if you take 1-3 turns more than a ltc for a safer strategy in iron man?, anyway just wanted to say that its a little bit silly how seriously a lot of people take LTC when rating units and it's good that some iron man run is changing your mind about units. (iron man is the superior way of playing FE anyways xD).

I know right. Often times LTC is all about rng abusing, if not it’s just using Marcus. Other units never get much spotlight. And a major part of fire emblem is growths, which aren’t under the spotlight in LTCs where units just can’t grow enough to be good.

Agreed, Iron Man performance is a much better metric. Iron Man performance is all about consistency, and that, to me, translates better to a units performance, than what they are capable of if everything goes perfectly. A unit that relies on good luck to make it isn't really that good, I view good luck like grinding. ANY unit can be fantastic with enough grinding, or good enough luck. Speed is important, turns ARE a resource, so units that can push through a map quicker, or make due with fewer resources are still valuable. I will also say, that I do end up comparing units that share promo items, if that's a factor.

There's no way Harken obsoletes Raven. As a hero, Raven can one-round most enemies with a hand-axe and one round stronger enemies with a good sword. Harken can do the same and has slightly more defence but less HP; there's no reason not to use both.

Ayra's Combat utility is massively overstated. She's fairly frail in a game with huge enemy groups, if they aren't axe wielders, she doesn't do well. She's mostly good vs a few bosses- but Sigurd is usually better, so it's not like she'll be your primary bossfighter. Holyn is a better unit, of you want to talk about footlocked FE4 units.

During my most recent playthrough of fe7, Lyn was one of my best units in the final chapters almost strictly because of her bows. I gave her a short bow for role playing purposes and a longbow, and she was so good at chipping everything that I got her to max level. Her and Rath were able to take down so many powerful units. It was crazy.

I never understand why people tend to rate Hawkeye so much higher than Geitz in HHM: Geitz only comes one chapter later and with a significant amount more speed, which makes a huge difference to their OHKOing potentials. Hawkeye has good crit rates but he needs the crit to OHKO a lot of enemies, whereas Geitz can do it just by the fact he doubles. They're both good units, but Geitz edges Hawkeye out in my opinion. Raven's biggest problem is how stingy HHM deployment slots are. There's just so many units you're likely already fielding that it becomes increasingly hard to actually justify bringing him a lot of times. He's weighed against people like Marcus, Lowen, Kent/Sain, Florina/Fiora/Farina, Priscilla, Erk/Lucius/Canas, Isadora, Heath, Rath, Ninian, Hawkeye, Pent and Louise for the early-mid game, and later Harken and Vaida for late game who already take up a huge amount of deployment slots as is, and that's assuming you're only using one of multiple options that I slashed. That doesn't even account for possibly training the Lords if you want Geitz or the maps you need to deploy Matthew/Legault to steal items. I find that you're almost pigeonholed into early promoting him at level 10 for 1-2 ranged access and then dropping him once you get more useful utility units, and later Harken who completely blows Raven out of the water even if you waited until level 20 to promote him which is pretty unlikely to happen given how bad the experience decay is once you're a higher level than the enemies, not helped by the fact that FE7 is filled with so many unpromoted trash enemies. If there's one positive I can say about Raven besides his great combat, it's that at least his competition for the first Hero Crest is quite low. Dorcas and Bartre can get by without it and Guy is just inferior to Raven when both are early promoted.

Raven is easily better than Hawkeye, Isadora, Louise, Rath. Hawkeye has a meme tier speed base (same as Marcus, except Marcus deserves speedwings more than him), axe locked and not better than Raven on average other than Bulk. Isadora, lol, what even is your reasoning for that? Vaida is mostly irrelevant, she does not compete for a spot in Cog, and does not contribute significantly to the dumb 3 deployment map after it, then it's just 2-3 more maps so whatever. Louise's only purpose is pent support, not convincing enough. You shouldn't be using more than one of Erk/Lucius/Canas anyways because of guiding ring competition, and other than Lucius, they're not really better than Raven. Lucius is the only one capable of reaching useful staff utility so he's a step above them, the others are pure combat mages and not better at it than Raven. Especially Erk lol, he offers nothing to the table. Earning Geitz is not a point against Raven, as grinding for Linus' map is inefficient. And Geitz isn't particularly better than Raven either. Out of Kent/Sain/Lowen one is bound to get rng screwed. Thief utility is obsolete after Dragon's gate secret shops.

I m currently doing an Fe7 hhm run on my channel slowly but surely and I never would have imagined myself using serra as a bishop damage dealer. Giving her nini's grace with shine melts hoards of enemies at lv 1 of promotion with her incredible high magic.

During my last iron man run, I tried to use 2 meme units (Plus nino support bot): Dart and Legault. Dart was capped speed(28) and strenght(30) and both his skill, luck and defence stats were above 16. At promotion, he was a faster Hawkewe and had so much HP HE ate bolting without stress. My legault on the final map had had 14 strength but most important 30 speed and 25 luck. He had 85 avoid and 45 crit with a killing edge (125 avoid in nino's support) Using meme units or Bad units can be fun and reveal some moments unique to Fire Emblem. P.S: Legault had an above 25% assasination chance. Kinda funny.

dart is pretty good. the only issue is that using the ocean seal to promote him kills your funds rating, which makes him useless for ranked runs. on casual playthroughs, however, he can be a beast

I always thought in regards to Lyn its important to note that if you do play her own story she ends up at say around level 10 with basis that make her comparable enough to use competently at the start of Hector/Eliwoods modes. But not playing it causes her usability and reputation to be an uphill battle.

@@HanakkoLove that is generally my opinion on her gameplay wise. she is too squishy for the front line, and her strength growth is shaky at best. hector deals more damage with a hit than she does with a crit. she also gets saddled with the worst weapon types in the game, and she gets weighed down considerably by her own endgame weapon (rather crippling for a unit whose speed is her greatest advantage)

I think it is kind of an interessting designparadox. Lynmode is similarly designed as FE6, favoring Swords but hating lances. Lyn is absolutely amazing because she can double with the mani katti and her squish is not bad when enemies don't hit hard. But giving her all the kills is a waste due to her subpar performance later. Florina meanwhile is good in Eliwood/Hector-mode, but absolutely atrocious for Lynmode-combat.

Not FE7 but on my recent Conquest Lunatic playthrough I was honestly surprised at how... meh Silas out to be. I hadn’t used him much before but had always heard great things about him and that he was one of the best early game units in the game. But even with some people good lvl ups his stats were lower than Peri’s bases despite being 2 levels higher and Peri’s bases aren’t exactly amazing to begin with. About the only chapter I felt he lived up to his praise was his very first, where getting Corrin under 50% hp let’s him two shot faceless and survive them really well, even better than Effie since Seal Spd doesn’t make him get doubled a bunch. After that though he was... okay? He couldn’t double reliably and it was getting harder to justify keeping Corrin’s health low when they needed to EP stuff a lot, so he essentially became someone who could do some decent chip damage and take on a few enemies on EP if he had a pair up. Sure that’s more than say, Odin or Mozu can say but compared to the stuff Eiffe, Corrin & Felicia/Jakob are doing it’s pretty underwhelming. Personally I wouldn’t consider him on the same plane as Effie & Corrin for the early game, he’s more akin to Arthur, just more accurate and a little faster.

I can agree that Silas is overhyped. I always end up benching him and really what makes him so bad is his weapon rank I feel. Grinding Lances to D is very very tedius, especially considering the enemies you face. Most of the time you have to use your sword because lance is too bad (doesnt kill the faceless on chp. 7 and chp. 8 is riddled with axe fighters and mages that he cant counter attack.) He ends up being too much effort for so little! In birthright however he starts with a C on swords and a D on lances, making him so much better on the joke path than on the hardcore path.

A unit I had some thoughts on from your iron man was actually Nino. Don't get me wrong, she's still a bad unit, but in the specific case of an iron man, it is not very hard to train her up to 10 and have some staff utility in a pinch. The promotion bonuses and her growths together actually allow her to catch up pretty well too. As I said, she's still a long way off being good, but it did make me wonder about the broader question of what units might not be too bad, but simply lack a reason to use them over somebody else.

For me it's Lowen. I used to think he is absolute garbage without appreciating how his high defense and move allows you to keep him in the middle of the action, promote him very fast and carry the whole mid game together with marcus. He will probably be too weak and slow for the very late game, but this doesn't change his contributions.

Well for me, Lowen is the 2nd best paladin in the game behind Marcus (if you don't play Lyn mode). He is acting like a mobility General, a great knight with paladin movement. This guy can survive for himself while weaking enemies, his 10 constitution make him can use something like Steel sword without losing any speed, javelin with only -1 speed, or hand axe. He has fire affinity that boosting strength for whoever have support with him. Also in nearly every playthrough, my Lowen and Rebecca always get blessed in stats especially Rebecca since she seems get more strengths than usual. In one time in Hector hard more before desert chapter, she has the highest strength on my team (she got 20 strength thanks for the promotion bonus).

I'm happy that Geitz got some love; my first run I had Dart and Geitz duo one side of the map while everyone else went to the other side. They had no trouble, but some of my units on the right did. I had to laugh about how just two axe users were having a field day while everyone else was having the trouble of a life time.

I always liked Isadora thanks to HHM. I was using four Paladins the first time I played the game and in one chapter I lost Lowen, Kent and Sain. Losing all three of them made me think I was screwed but I replaced them with Isadora and she was actually really solid. She has issues and is probably the worst Paladin, but she is still a decent unit

The FE7 unit that I have changed most of my opinion is Eligood, I used to think he is super bad like Roy, but I am absolutely wrong. Last year I did an Ironman run, and my Eligood turned out to have more strength than Hector(my Hector sucks), and he capped his 27 strength at lvl 16 promoted, he carries my late game with B support with Harken. Now I think Eligood is like at least 4 stars unit. He has good early game survival ability with A support with Hector, and he is able to support the strongest unit in the game Harken, with his promotion he will be the best cavalier, unless you played Lyn mode and trained Sain or Kent.

Hehe. I've always used Lyn. Funny thing, I never had a problem with her against lances. She always dodged those. Swordslayers and Berserkers were my worst foes for her. I literally lost her to a 0% hit chance because a berserker triggered a critical hit with a hand axe.

Playing casually recently because FE was one of the few GBA games I owned, I got Lyn up to 20 on the pirate map with the arena (she dueled level 17 enemies with lances and won before promotion obviously) and when we hit the ship chapter I just put her in the middle of the deck and watched her dodge magic and one-shot swordsmen left and right. That's probably because she was level 20 at a relatively early part of the game (Hector is like level 5 and Eliwood is 15, for comparison), but still it's amazing to watch when a Lyn gets a chance to go to town.

Bad units that look incredibly good with Mangs : - Lyn , she carried Mangs team against the Dragon , without her he would not have clear FE 7 - WOLT , he carried literally his FE 6 team against Wyverns and Bosses - The Legend of Rad , for some reason Mangs always makes him into a monster on shadow dragon , too bad he didnt make it to the very end :(
