It's time for probably the saddest chapter in the game.

1:34 This game has so much detail! 4:58 As I said before, Jill is a very realistic character. Possibly the most realistic character in the series. I really love how they use her to explore every aspect of the personality they wrote her with, going into her motivations, how she was raised, how she feels now, every single detail about her is so _real_ and so thoroughly explored. 24:04 I don't get it either. You'd think it'd just be "Robin's Primer", but no, Thoron is the signature tome now. I mean, Robin DOES use specifically lightning magic in cutscenes, but that's just because they're the most powerful magic type (and Robin uses it point-blank on a foe who isn't expecting the attack, so that kinda negated the accuracy loss compared to the other spells). 28:05 Ike is now a Jedi. That is amazing. Sadly, the Black Knight is not his real father, but he can do the Inigo Montoya thing that Luke couldn't. 30:50 I actually recently used a combination of Rescue and Warp in Echoes. I was approaching the sluice gate as Alm and had recruited Luthier, so I was very careful to avoid ever entering Delthea's attack range. To have Alm finish the boss, I had Faye Rescue Silque to get in range to Warp Alm past Delthea and assist Claire against the boss. It was really cool and it wouldn't have been possible if Warp and Rescue didn't function ever-so-slightly differently. 42:05 That volcano animation is also how it looks in Awakening. 44:35 Says "prepare yourself" and proceeds to Aether. He's also been gaining some speed, though he's still too slow. Yeah, this is Smash Ike alright. 50:09 Let us kill you already you heartless bitch! 53:44 Yeah, I saw that coming, even before Soren confronted him. He was the only one who made any sense as the traitor given that the rest of the army could possibly be dead right now and obviously the traitor wouldn't want to risk their life. Volke was sort-of a possibility, but not really, given that he's an optional recruit who might just be hanging about in nearby taverns until now, and the villains state that their mole has earned the army's trust which Volke didn't until long after that line.

1:34 Something even better that I found out after recording this: the dialogue between Ike and Jill at the start of the chapter? It's different if you didn't view the base conversation in Chapter 19. Makes sense as Ike wouldn't be able to mention overhearing the conversation with "the man with the eyepatch". If you don't, he doesn't know the commander is her father, but he'll instead say "These Wyvern Riders were from your former squad, weren't they?" and then give his "it's not too late to switch you out" lines. 4:58 And the best part is it's all from a character who's incredibly unlikable in their first appearance. All of this really shocked me when I first played. 24:04 It's funny how one scene forever associated Robin with Thunder magic in all their later appearances. 30:50 I made Faye a Pegasus Knight in my run so I didn't have access to that. I learned too late that she learned really good Cleric spells. 44:35 Well I guess this playthrough is "canon", then. 50:09 The game agonisingly drags this out. 53:44 Exactly, he's really the only one it could be. General RPG logic usually doesn't rob you of someone playable (though there are exceptions) and when it does it's often very obvious.

Kaga is said to be a huge fan of novel/anime series Legend of the Galactic Heroes. And apparently, that series also feature a weapon called Thorhammer, which has similar visual effects from the one in FE4 (bolts of lightning gushing out from a black sphere) . Many theorize that this is what influenced the weapon in FE4, and explains why it was named Thorhammer. That also explains why Mjolnir is no longer called Thorhammer in the modern games, because Kaga is no longer with IS. Small information like this makes me realize that once the more we know about the director, the more we get to understand all of the thought process behind everything about game development.

One of my absolute favorite chapters in this game. The story elements, the map design is cool, and just the sheer weight this chapter carries makes it very impactful. Calill is one of my absolute favorite Tellius characters and I always use her in both PoR and RD (and her male counterpart is also a favorite of mine.) Her bases, weapon ranks, and starting inventory (save for the knife) make her a valuable asset instantly and her growth rates are all really good as well, being the tankiest Sage with a 40% def growth (which is higher than characters like Oscar, Nephenee, and Jill) while combining a good balance of str/mag/skl/spd/luk with very good res as well. I'd say her biggest flaws are one knives (why) and two her lowish base hp/def but once her growths kick in she'll be able to tank some hits on both spectra. Nihil is only meh in this game but AMAZING in RD. She's incredibly versatile in terms of what magic she can wield, being able to use all of the El- and long range magic right off the bat (and coming with meteor to flaunt this) and she can easily reach in A rank in any magic type you want her to use. Personally, I always focus Thunder magic as one it's the strongest and two that's the only S rank magic tome available and Calill can actually reach S by the time you get it without an Arms scroll (Ilyana can too I guess but that's a lot of investment into Ilyana to have her get B rank in thunder when Calill already has it and more investment later to reach A and S.) Calill also has some pretty decent support options (Nephenee's is hilarious). All in all, a really fun and easy to use unit; I would say she's Pent level of awesomeness due to how easy PoR is compared to Blazing Sword. In fact, their bases, growths, and level are all VERY similar so maybe she was meant to hearken back to him?
@BigKlingy6 жыл бұрын
I forgot how tanky Caliill was for a Sage. Nihil is an interesting example of a skill getting WAY better by virtue of the rest of the game changing. It does the exact same thing in both games, you just fight enemies with dangerous skills FAR more in RD.

@17:35; To be fair, the Apostle is really young too - given the reason she's even the Apostle at this stage, it might make sense to say that everyone's a bit younger than they should be in Begnion, baring the nobles who go out of their way to avoid fighting.
@gbindahouse946 жыл бұрын
Given that Tanith serves the apostle, a figure with a highly positive reputation among the people of Begnion and her rather stern attitude, I would not be surprised if she enlisted at a young age and lied that she was of sufficient military age, much like many young men did in WW1. By the time she was revealed, it could have been too late as she either proved too competent an asset to remove or even simply that she has already bonded with her Pegasus and the removal process would prove too difficult and a waste of a Pegasus.

I'm not entirely sure what you're referring to, there's a lot of optional conversations there. Are you maybe referring to the two characters who just refuse to fight eachother at all? The other one I give a pass, because he's more meant as a deconstruction of the archetypes.
@absoul1126 жыл бұрын
I wasn't thinking of that but that is still a great example. I was referring to 2 laguz who are never attacked in one of the parts. The thought never occurred to me. This chapter is probably the saddest one in the series. I don't why, but the sad chapter in Awakening has affected me less as time has gone on. (It might have to do with overexposure.) However, this chapter has affected me more as time has gone on. This chapter also has a lot more build up than the sad chapter in Awakening.
@BigKlingy6 жыл бұрын
It's also interesting in that how sad it is depends on whether you've trained one optional character. If you haven't used Jill much, it mightn't affect you, but if you have it REALLY does. It'd be interesting if more chapters did this kind of thing. Heck, Fates' whole choice motive might've worked better like this. Instead of one big hamfisted choice involving an Avatar, have certain chapters change depending on which characters you've supported with or trained. Most of the choices FE players make is which characters to train and use in their army. That kind of choice has always existed from the start, but only here has the decision to use one character really done anything plot-related. I guess they kind of did it with Kaze on Birthright, but I was disappointed in how little his fate had to do with his personality or supports. He just... notices a glowing crystal. I'm not really meaning to knock Fates here, more that I feel like focusing on these kind of player choices has potential.

I realized something about this game, I think Ashnard is the only pure human final boss in the series. Nothing supernatural going on, just one god like man. I guess one example of making a game not fun to prove a point is the Genocide Run of Undertale, but you kinda have to intentionally know what you're doing in that case in order to go that route.

@jaredfayette25676 жыл бұрын
Delta dragon Yeah Thracia 776 And Path Of Radiance are the only Fire Emblem games to have purely human (and not possessed) final bosses. Though I feel like Ashnard does the better job of being the purely human boss since Berdo felt more like a cog in the Loptyr Cult than as a human being (and I really do like somethings about Ashnard, but I’ll save that talk when we get to PoR’s end). I certainly hope that we get more final bosses like these since unless we get a truly unique twist/ a very well developed villain, the fans are getting or are fatigued of a some sort of dragon related final boss.
@BigKlingy6 жыл бұрын
Berdo/Veld was always really lame to me. He wasn't even that high-ranking of a Loptyr Sect member, and he was a joke to fight. Also, there's unused data in Thracia suggesting there was a monster final boss planned for the game, since all the lines are in katakana like Medeus, Loptyr. I wonder what it could be. Technically speaking I guess Veronica counts for Heroes Book 1. Surtr used to be pure human but definitely isn't anymore. Personally, I'd like to see a monster final boss that isn't a dragon. Like the Demon King in FE8. Duma USED to be one of these, but the remake turned him into a dragon.

1:50 Used in Robin's final smash and as Linde's C6. 13:13 I mean, if they left Begnion 18 years ago... the original Wyvern Riders would all have to be in their 30s, if not 40s and 50s. Either most of them have been replaced with younger, Daein recruits, or this is a case of basic logical failure on the writers' part if we're to assume all of them have served under Shiharim for nearly two decades. 19:48 Oh hi, VC3 (no, I never will not be salty about that). 29:55 I get it, as someone who's just really nitpicky about terminology in general (I generally just say "the localized release", only specifying NA/EU if it's something particular). 43:00 It's a Diablos Ex Machina getting cancelled out by a Deus Ex Machina, neither of which are mentioned again. It's just really, really stupid every way you slice it.
@BigKlingy6 жыл бұрын
1:50 Bolgannone wasn't even in Linde's games! 13:13 ...Yeah, that does feel kind of weird. Often writers will use "X years ago" without thinking of the implications. 19:48 I like the concept of VC3, apparently it has issues though. 29:55 I just say "the English version", but that's also wrong because often localization changes carry over to the French/German/Spanish etc translations. Asian releases tend to follow the Japanese version more closely. 43:00 Exactly. That scene was really, really dumb.
@danielm.50786 жыл бұрын
1:50 ...Uh, it's been in every Archanea game (and even if it hadn't been, it would be in character for the dev team to make references like that: the same input gets you *Rexaura* on Robin-- ironically, considering FEW seems to have outsold both Tellius games put together more people know of the spell from Robin's moveset in it than people who know it from series proper). She also has Blizzard, which is literally its animation from SD (and Thoron as well, though the animation isn't a direct reference to anything-- Robin's version is actually the FE3 version, being a large pulsating spark that shoots out a beam at the end). 13:13 Going with ten years instead would've had a similar effect without raising as many potential snarls. 19:48 Something I recently found out that explains a lot about the massive difficulty difference I've noticed between it and 2; in the first two VC games, enemy interception fire only does a fraction of normal damage (I think it's something like 1/2 in 1 and 2 knocks it down even further to more like 1/4). 3 and 4? Full damage. Funnily enough, it both forces you to have a clear plan before you select a character and run and gun more like a shooter once you've selected one. 29:55 It's like a domino effect, where the EU version tends to use the NA version as a base rather than translating directly from the original JP version.
@BigKlingy6 жыл бұрын
1:50 Derp. Forgot about that. It's been a while since I played FE3. 13:13 Again, writers often can't do maths with years. 19:48 Full damage intercept fire sounds like a pain. 29:55 Recently though other European languages have been going directly from the Japanese, at least for Pokemon. Actually, some other games too, apparently a major goof in the English translation of FFXV ("You'll never guess who's name Izunia was", which implied the name had significance. It was supposed to be "I can't even remember where I got 'Izunia' from", i.e. it was just a bs fake name with no sinister implications) isn't present in other European languages.
@danielm.50786 жыл бұрын
1:50 I clearly remember both it and Thoron having a stupidly limited amount of uses in SD (only 13). 19:48 The fact 4's maps are one complete area and not individual zones has me hoping it isn't as hard to deal with. 29:55 Interesting.

1:50 I seem to remember that too. 19:48 I never really liked the multi-part maps, but they made sense on a portable system.

Alright, with the SpeedBring4K, Ike will definitely grow out of his speed slump. Just watch out for the stray dogs. 1:47 I prefer calling it Bologna myself. 20 turns is way too generous for a game with such weak enemies. I think they should have either decreased the turn limit or given tougher enemies (not to the extent of Maniac Mode, though). Storywise, this is one of my favourites. It's very tragic, and the extra dialogue Jill has does wonders for her character and Daein's worldbuilding. When it comes to fighting loved ones on the enemy side, I believe there's also Milady and Zeiss vs Galle in FE6. If I recall correctly, there were a few cutscenes of Milady and Galle talking to each other before Chapter 21, so they tried to show the relationship between the two and make the fight that more tragic. I think I prefer how FE9 handled Jill's conflicted emotions fighting her home country, Daein. 18:39 With the way he acts, no way is Rickard that old! 39:14 I don't know how MMBN2 got away with that or the minor swearing, considering that game's age rating. 46:12 I really like the music that plays here. It's especially fitting for the end of this chapter.
@BigKlingy6 жыл бұрын
1:47 I know a lot of people do, but I'm not fully sure what Bologna even is. Apparently it's a place in Italy? The turn limit is pretty high, I agree. On Maniac they still give you 15 turns. Galle was weird though as fighting him in Chapter 21 was entirely optional. There's so much evidence that he was planned to be recruitable but was scrapped: he's one of the few NPCs to have non-generic growth rates, he can talk to Milady and Wyvern Lord is one of the few classes that doesn't have a pre-promote. They just... decided he should stay an enemy for some reason. 18:39 Unrelated, but I still love Rickard's ending in Shadow Dragon. 39:14 It was a somewhat-obscure game I guess, I wasn't even aware of the series until I found RoahmMythril's channel. 46:12 PoR's "bittersweet victory" theme is one of my favourites in the series.
@jSilvuh226 жыл бұрын
Bologna is a place in Italy, and there's also the bologna sausage, sometimes spelled as baloney. I don't think I even fought Galle in my FE6 Hard Mode run. I remember talking to him with either Zeiss or Milady and had both of them in range to prepare myself, but he just... stopped moving. I even went up to him with the other wyvern rider and had their conversation with Galle, but nothing. I remember no one else was in range, so maybe Galle's AI is programmed to only gun for anyone else if they're in his range. Still... So much for 'next time we meet, we're enemies'. 39:14 I don't think I was aware of the Battle Network series around the time of the GBA either. When I first discovered emulators, I found VBA for GBA, and I remember a download coming with an assortment of different ROMs. It included (but was not limited to) the GBA Kirby games, the Gen 3 Pokemon games, and Battle Networks 4, 5 and 6. So my first Battle Network game was 4! I didn't enjoy it, even back then, so I didn't finish it. Even when I came back to the game after playing 1, 2 and 3, I still didn't enjoy it.
@BigKlingy6 жыл бұрын
The sausage thing I've heard of, but I don't think we call it that in Australia, I don't think I've even seen it. Gale is weird. Again, he feels like a recruitable character who was scrapped at the absolute last minute. 39:14 Your first BN was 4? I feel so, so bad for you. 2 and 3 seem a lot better from what I've seen, and 6 looks almost as good. 5 is heavily debated, but it's definitely better than 4.

BigKlingy, that moment when you realize that Tellius wyverns have six limbs, which are the four lets and two wings. BligKlingy, Ena, another obvious Laguz . . . I think we know what type of Laguz she is. We have not faced dragons yet have we? Fire Emblem games tend to involve dragons. I am guessing Nasir and Ena are dragon tribe Laguz.

But Shiharam is a Wyvern Lord not a General. I know it’s meant to be serious but when you have a common military title share it’s name with a class it becomes a bit amusing. Like how Lon’qu can say “you’re no warrior” . It works when his enemy is a Myrmidon or was a Myrmidon but against an enemy Warrior it becomes hilarious. Chapter 10 from Awakening is rather overt in how depressing it’s supposed to be considering the map and music while this one relies almost entirely on the situation surrounding it and Fridge Horror to get its feels across. Like we have been fighting Daien Soldiers for the last few chapters. One of those Daien soldiers might have been the sons of elderly villagers. Holy Ashera that’s young to be essentially a general. I’m calling Nepotism or she is literally just that good. Japanese media sure does like to have extremely competent youngsters does it. Inconsistent or newly added terminology for an old mechanic is fun ain’t it. I have gotten into a similar situation when it come to the Social Link bonus for fusing in Persona games. I have started referring to it as Arcana Burst in regards to all games in character evaluations I’ve been doing for Persona party members when I feel like it. I remember Dark Mages being enemies in the camp chapter and lava chapter in Radiant Dawn. When the PAL English version is actually different from the American Version it becomes quite idiotic to use the name American version for all English copies. Like how in Awakening I think they actually changed the spelling of armor to armour and other such words to reflect British English and made the birthdays go Day/Month. Which is something that irks me about Fates is that even in the PAL versions birthdays go Month/Day. It means that i can’t keep the birthdays of any one whose birthday is before the 13th of a month straight in my head as to me Rhajat,s April 1st birthdays reads as January 4th to me. And The difference between Fates American and European releases was even longer than Awakenings too which you think would allow them more time to change things. Does Jill and Shirahim,s bond support decrease the critical chance or maybe that enemy also has 1 Luck. It’s not like any of Fates three stories are especially good so arguing about which is better so arguing about which is worse is like comparing 3 mouldy apples. It doesn’t matter which one you think is the worst as none of them are fit for purpose. That scene with Haar and the generic solider almost cause me to cry, well played game, well played. Nasir was the traitor! I NEVER SAW THAT COMING. I want to ask, of the 2nd Batch if Brave Heroes who is your choice for the time being until we get more information. Right now for me it’s Hector or Celica

Consider this is Begnion we're talking about, nepotism was probably involved. We're just lucky it ended up putting a decent person in that position. Changing Social Links to Confidants in P5 tripped my up a few times too. Though Confidants rolls off the tongue better. I remember those two chapters. I think there are a few in Part 4 too. I think Fates didn't change much in the EU version. Radiant Dawn has a LOT of changed though, from fixing bugs to correcting mistranslations. Only thing I don't like about it: changing Astra to Astrum. WHY? It's supposed to increase the crit rate. It's not often you see generic soldiers mourning the losses of their comrades and leader. I wish there were more FE scenes like this I'm really interested in what they do with Veronica, personally.

This has been on my mind for a bit since you started to play this game. Of course one of the things that stands out the most in these games, especially in the later parts of the game, is the ridiculous amount gold you get in this game. It almost makes me think that they thought of employing a unit employment cost system. There are a few things to this. 1) This is the first fire emblem game where you are a group of Mercenaries, not an envoy or army for a Lord or a Royal, so since a mercenary group would be paid by mission, each character could have had a deployment cost. 2) There are two units in which you see this most blatantly, Mikolov and Volke. Mikolov because the mercenary troop has taken on his debt and he works for free, and Volke because you have to pay him for certain extra-gameplay activities (not extra as in bonus, but extra as in exterior). 3) The amount of money that you get in the game increases as you go along, to which you have nothing else to spend it on besides forging. This is kind of a theory (nothing like the idiocy which I find in MatPat) in which to explain the excess. Of course reason and rationality can only go so far, and I am of the kind that believes the only true way to know things is to have the experience of the event in itself.

I THINK Berwick Saga did something like this. A lot of your army are mercenaries, and you have to pay them to keep using them. Then I think if they gained enough trust with you, you unlock a side mission that lets them join permanently.

hey,Bigklingy I know this is weird but I think FE5 Paragon mode(currently chapter 14) is easier than FE 4 chapter 1...

FE5 Paragon mode is pretty crazy. I think it stacks with the actual Paragon skill too. I personally think Thracia's difficulty is overrated. It's not THAT bad outside of a couple of chapters.

BigKlingy yeah,on chapter 8,my Leaf hit lv20 and now(chapter 14) I have lv 12 Sage Asvel,Lv9 Sniper Ronan,Lv 3 Hero Orsin(somehow with 52 Hp) And both Asvel and Ronan got two movement level up...

Sometimes I forget movement can grow in that game. I think it's really unlikely outside of certain Crusader Scrolls. I like how Con can grow though.

BigKlingy Yeah,imagine a girl like nanna from base con grow to 20 build.At least stealing do base on con and I like how you steal weapon,I steal most mage tome and let them be unarmed and be like"Ah ha,a theif!Let me burn you!Wait where do my fire tome go!" and notice their tome is in the theif inventory.

If the 4 riders were to be the ones from the Apocalypse I would be torn apart between death or pestilence as Petrine's symbolism, she makes me sick and I would rather die brutally than kiss her boot, much less kill for her. I wonder what Shiharam and Haar were thinking to go to Daein? Why not for Crimea or Gallia if they don't want to life in an toxic country like Daein. Poor decision-making must run in the family. 15 or 10 turns would be a lot more challenging. Personally I would have to see one of your heroes defect to the enemies side due to having dialogue with one of the Enemy generals or even better, having to meet special conditions for an important main Character to lose in the final chapters, like constantly betraying their trusts or like in Banner saga, have one of the recruits be secretly an serial killer and kill one of your units in a paralouge.

Speaking of spec ops, I love the game to death, but it's a horrible game. Keyword being Game, the gameplay is Bland and unimaginative (which considering that is a deconstruction of modern military shooters that makes sense completely but still) but the story is great, which I think helps the point. In my opinion, it's a reversed Fe Fates. Fates was a great game but horrible story (or at least extremely underwhelming story), Spec Ops has only the story going for it as a complete positive. And, while the story alone can hold some like it did for me, it's not enough for everyone. I like it because I like Apocalypse Now and Heart of Darkness which the game takes inspiration from, and the writing understands how to make it's point without being too ham-fisted. It's a little bit ham fisted but not in it's actual point, it's more ham fisted in its themes. Soooooo. Yeah. Edit, the Bosses battle and defeat quotes are so much sadder if Jill has died at this point.
@BigKlingy6 жыл бұрын
That's pretty much what I've heard about it too. You play it more for the story, and the whole point of the gameplay is to be terrible. Heard it had a pointless multiplayer mode thrown in via executive demand though, which the developers HATED. I always find it interesting how some games fall under "play the game, skip the story" while others are "enjoy the story, skip the game". I feel Pokemon Mystery Dungeon is a good example of the second. Sorry to say, but I find the gameplay in that series really bland and boring, but their stories make up for it. Some of the few games I've played that have both great gameplay and a great story and the Persona and Trails games. I've heard it's inspired by those two works. My dad knows those but I haven't read/watched them yet.

I used that on him in my last playthrough. It caused two problems: 1. He doesn't ORKO a lot of things, so he ended up creating roadblocks. 2. It made him draw long-range tomes, which he doesn't take too well.

So speaking of bad rom-hacks If you wanted to make a difficult rom-hack, what would be your way? My favorite ideas are: #1: Lowering the turn limit/adding a turn limit to chapters #2: Manipulating the terrain #3: Giving more skills (but not stupid skills *cough cough* counter *cough cough*) #4: Stronger bosses, for instance perhaps in awakening, one of the bosses could have all 5 breaker skills, encouraging you to either go after really high hit rate over damage, or use a taguel or manakete

The official Pokemon website used to say things like "this Pokemon's American name has not been confirmed." That was back in the Gen 1 days, when people didn't care about regions outside America for games. (RIP Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, Final Fantasy 6, Super Mario RPG)
