I've done this a lot, and here's a few more ideas from my experience: -It's easiest to pull off in encounters where the majority of enemies are brawlers. Their attack power tends to be lower than other enemies (making it easier to stack enough protection to take no damage), and they also chew through the durability of their weapons faster, since they can usually hit someone holding a broken/rusty weapon four times. -If you get three tanky fellows and three adjutants, you can work on six people's ranks at the same time. I've even deliberately used an unarmed Fortress Knight to break all the enemy weapons, then peeled off enemies with the squishier folks who need the training but couldn't initially take the beating. If the enemy can't damage either unit, they will usually prefer the one who can't hit them back, then the one more likely to miss, so you may have to have the Fortress Knight pull out a working weapon when he's ready to lose the attention. -To get appropriate weapons more reliably than looking for random drops from online, simply use an iron weapon until it breaks and don't repair it. Broken weapons work just as well as rusted ones. Granted, this will take a little longer than the first couple of maps, but you can also generate a whole set of broken weapons just by never repairing your early weapons. -Prioritize any mages who need training for the adjutant role. Normally magic would be used up quickly, but adjutants never expend any uses of their equipped spell and they still earn experience as long as the primary character makes an attack. Be aware that most casting classes can make follow-up attacks, however, and their accuracy and strength are not reduced, so a Reason-training adjutant will probably fry an enemy every now and then (Faith can equip non-attacking spells like Heal). If you've got plenty enemies, it won't matter, but you can also just choose not to attack on Player Phase (adjutants won't follow-up on Enemy Phase but both units still earn xp on counterattacks). This was how I got Manuela through the long, painful road to Reason Rank A for Bolting. -Equip the Knowledge Rings to your trainees, especially any adjutants who aren't able to train like this (mages, glass cannons). -This is also a great way to master classes and gather Support points along the way. By posting three characters (all with adjutants) side-by-side, you can build support with up to five characters at the same time! (The unit in the middle will progress any available support with their own adjutant, both of his/her neighbors, and both of their adjutants as well.) This isn't nearly as efficient as other support methods, so I wouldn't go this route for that reason, but if two units who need support both need weapon training, might as well put them together.
@AtomicArtumas3 жыл бұрын
Additionally, this is GREAT for recruiting units early, as you can both increase Byleth's skills to the required values, AND increase supports by using the unit you want to recruit as your bonus unit for the month and then grinding with them as an adjutant for support levels as well. This is particularly useful for getting Lysithea prior to DK1 if you're not playing GD. This also works absurdly well in BL because Byleth/Dmitri/Dedue should basically just take zero damage from anything almost right off the bat. I'd also highly recommend being in a class with either a mount or armor equipped, in order to level up those skills as well. You might think Peg Knight is a terrible class to tank in, but if F!Byleth has high enough def, it really doesn't matter. And getting hit just lets you level up a healer as well. In fact... It's actually probably optimal to do this with a minimum of 5 characters in a + shape, healer in the middle, just so you CAN level up an additional healer, even if you don't have enough adjutants for the other 4 characters. (especially if you're leveling Byleth as a healer, lul - raise support with 7 characters/turn ftw?)

Found a really cheesy way to raise weapon proficiency without raising experience and levels... if you have a map with flying monsters and equip broken or rusty weapons (not bow)... you get 0 hit... if your character also has an adjutant that is just a healer(Guessing the shield guys probably also work, I'm afraid any fighter character would also try to attack randomly so not the best) they can also raise proficiency in whatever you equip them with (Heal spell for faith, or a thunder spell for reason, or just a regular weapon)... the adjutant never attacks but you can cheese their other weapons and spells to S+ as well. Also if you're mounted you continually get riding or flying experience up to S+... was playing around with a mounted Byleth (Cavalier?) and just seeing if I can grind all weapons to A (Axe is a pain because Cavalier doesn't give bonuses so only get +2 weapon experience each time you attack or counterattack)... guessing if you're like an armored knight you would also get the heavy armor experience... so I'm thinking of cheesing Byleth to A rank in as much as possible just because I feel the teacher should actually know what he's teaching... always found it weird that he can teach about heavy armor or riding when he's not even E rank on anything.

A bit late but for those who ask about how to train magic units or any unit to be honest, you can simply use the RETREAT method. Actually battle it out and when there is only one opponent left, just click on an empty tile so your menu will pop up and select retreat! You will retain all the exp you’ve earned and weapon proficiency and start the battle over. Do this for as long as your heart desires and you can do this on any battle you’d like! I have two questions : 1) Does this trick still work if you don't use online features ? 2) Is there any way to increase proficiency in magic (black or white magic) using a similar method ?
@DrVollKornBrot4 жыл бұрын
Just use a broken weapon instead of a rusted one. I don't use online at all. Kite any enemy (preferrably with high def/res) onto one of those tiles with +heal and +dodge. Also works on bosses that don't move. Surround him and attack with your whole squad with broken weapons or magic (if its high resistance). Heal damaged allies to level white magic until the enemies weapon breaks. Now you can fill the 99 turns of the battle with missing attacks/getting missed. I used this strat only on maddening (no NG+). I'm not even at timeskip and have some S+ ranks.

I know this is super late, but to answer this EVERY month, if not every explore/battle day, has several randomized optional battles. The pool significantly increases if you own the DLC, as it has an ADDITIONAL pool of randomized battles to choose from on those same days. This exact stage, but with randomized units, is part of that pool. However.... This guide is also very incomplete, and unoptimized - You can actually do this on essentially any level without a failure condition, so long as your units can survive. You also have a 99 turn limit cap per mission, before you automatically fail. It's actually optimal to choose a level with a healing square and a tanky boss (armor knights, etc. - mages/sages/bishops/etc. for leveling magic) and force the enemy onto the healing square (just equip push/etc. on your units that have those utility skills whenever you're planning to grind this out) This allows you to grind 4+ characters at a time (technically 4 melee + max adjutants (you get more than one later) + 8 2 range characters + any 3+ range characters you have, provided they can't significantly damage the enemy. This is GREAT for leveling bow on literally your entire roster for free. Additionally, if not on maddening, (and slightly on maddening) you can also grind a bit of exp from this by actually damaging a unit and having them heal the damage - This is a tactic that dates back forever in the series, and was particularly useful in FE7's lyndis' story's final level, and FE10's first level that Elincia joins, in order to grind a ton of free exp (you don't carry items over from lyn's story, and elincia has an infinite durability weapon that literally is unable to kill enemies, and can be used to turn her into an absurdly good mage killer and secondary healer.) TL;DR, This stage is part of a random pool that pops up constantly, and you actually just need any defensive terrain, with healing tiles actually being more optimal than forests.
@olive64193 жыл бұрын
@@AtomicArtumas I get how this works on player phase, but my question is can you push an enemy unit on to a square? Make your mage the adjutant. As long as the character on the map makes an attack, their adjutant will get skill xp with whatever they have equipped (even reason or faith magic) without expending any uses or durability. The only catch is when the adjutant is in a class that can follow-up attack; your mage adjutant still won't expend any uses of their equipped spell, but once the enemy breaks all their weapons on you that follow-up attack is almost certain to hit and hit hard. Not a big deal if you've still got plenty of enemies left, moreso if you only left a few alive to grind with. Even then, you can simply choose not to attack on Player Phase, since adjutants won't make follow-ups on enemy phase and you still get skill xp on counterattacks. Trust me on this one; it was a long, grueling road, but this is almost entirely how I got Manuela all the way up to A rank Reason for Bolting.

Its been a month since you asked. So you probably don't need an answer by now, but for those scrolling by and want to know the answer, you can use any weapon you want, to increase the relevant skill. And unarmed won't raise any school, (might raise Gauntlets) but the point of this guide is that you use weapons early on that won't inflict damage on the enemy, and the ones that consistently don't, at least early on, is rusted, and broken.
@jerm-gv9rv4 жыл бұрын

On Normal, yes. On Hard/Maddening, no, as you have a hard limit to the amount of optional battles you can do in a week. However, three houses has a NG+ system that allows you to re-buy any skill or support level you've obtained in a previous playthrough. The only thing to note is that there's a really dumb bonus unlockable (title screen changes color) for beating the game on a fresh non-NG+ maddening playthrough. However, you can totally do maddening -> NG+ normal full grind -> NG+ maddening, only having to play through the game once on a fresh playthrough. There's a few other things, like increased exp/stat/skill growths that you unlock and can keep via NG+ as well.

There are very few maps in this game that are truly challenging, and they usually have to deal with requiring 1-2 flying units and getting to places on the map ASAP (saving the duke in Constances mission, saving Manuela during her paralogue, killing Judith before she escapes in Edelgard's route, etc.).
