People don’t choose to like Drum & Bass, it’s so ‘unique’ that it makes people know very quickly if they like it or not. Some people just have something built in them that makes them sway as soon as they hear the breaks and the bassline...this guy watching has it. He would absolutely love it at a rave for sure. 👊🏻

Totally agree. Been in to Jungle/DnB since the Stevie Hyper D's (RIP) days myself. I've watched this video countless times, Shotta always brings it, brings it and kills it (Raw, gonna get raw hardcore!!) but asides from that I love seeing this guys reactions to the DnB beats and bars; no better way to get introduced to the genre! When he kept saying those beats were crazy, mad and unique, really impressed and when I heard the intro to the classic Chopper at the end, I thought fuckin' hell now here it comes, this''ll be a reaction!! >XD I commented to him saying how envious I was of him being able to listen to all the Jungle/DnB classics we know and love for the first time!! I got big love/respect for Hyper D, Skiba, Fearless, Dett, Bellyman and all the other MC's, but Shotta is King, not just Britain's, Global. I don't know of anyone better. Have you watched Bellyman's Car Barz*? Videos with Shotta and British MC's, but then also Car Barz from Canada*, New Zealand* and USA*. It's good to see talent from across the seas and know that Jungle/DnB is thriving globally! I've got two good (I think) playlists on my channel if you're interested. One's Jungle/DnB - more modern and then Old School Jungle/DnB - all the original classics! * Gonna link this guy the Bellyman/Shotta and USA Car Barz videos (whether he reacts to them or not) show him that there is a DnB scene Stateside. Sorry about the long comment! Peace, Love and Unity!! :D

Drum & Bass is Genre of music, basically it is what you would expect heavy drums and bass, heavy emphasis on the drums. Usually at a much higher BPM around 160-180. I don't normally listen to Harry Shotta but gotta say, I'm impressed with how he rode the beats!

This where it all started in the UK and why British mc's are better freestylers because they've grown up listening to an mc get on a mic and freestyle for hours to a beat
@MagnumDB8 ай бұрын
In 1996 I was introduced to underground electronica. The kind of house/techno music not playing on the radio or in movies or anything. Some names were huge in the scene like Frankie Bones. But the first place I ever went to where this music was being played (DJed) has two stories. The main room was the house/techno my friends wanted me to check out. It was like a movie - lights and mirrors and smoke machines - speakers everywhere you looked, packed dance floor. But upstairs... there was a much smaller room. Much less sophisticated - just a strobe light and a single green laser. It was playing a form of music I had never heard of. It wasn't on any of the cassettes my friends gave me. It was dark, it was aggressive. It had drums that sometimes sounded like real drums - and I was a drummer so I liked that. It was of course, Drum and Bass. I wouldn't know that for a while though. But from there I discovered a weekly show on a college radio station that played this same music. I. Was. Obsessed. It changed my life's trajectory, LOL. I've been listening to it ever since (along with a lot of other genres). But DnB is what I listen to the most, by far. It's just about all I'll drive with. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aqi9mYBmrNubpNk

Harry Shotta is an exception to the so called rule when it comes to d n b rappers because he has so much content in his bars in comparison to most others. Most others are more exclusively about flow using there voice as an instrument but Harry Shotta's got both. Two others than can MC d n b speed with content are Dizzee Rascal and Wiley.
@jacksmith44603 жыл бұрын
yep I think it took Grime for us to focus more on the MC as far as UK music goes, DnB mc's used to be a joke back in the day (like they literally were a joke between my friends) Peeps like Shotta are unique in DnB (it was present with Jungle but far more in the pirate radio days before dnb, did not transition to the mainstream until grime)

Drum and Bass evolved because the UK received House and Hip Hop at around the same time and we didn't really see the see the separation. Also, Reggae is really popular over here. If you get a hip hop break, play it at 45 instead of 33 and loop a reggae bassline underneath, you have a primitive D&B track.

+AllG'sReact the drum and bass emcees arent coming from a hip hop background, its an evolution from the jamaican toasting scene which predates hip hop. there was a big soundsystem scene in the 80's which evolved into jungle and drum and bass in the early 90's. shy fx is a good shout for an introduction to drum and bass.

Beautiful thing about Drum and Bass, is that it can mix directly into standard 87-90bpm hip hop (As Drum and Bass has a range of 160'ish-180'ish bpm). It's a thing of beauty when done right. Plus, most tunes will give your speakers a proper workout. If you want some tunes with some good funk vibes, look up DLR, and for pure vibes, look up DJ Marky. Even then, you're just scratching the surface. Love the reaction! Big up!!!

Disregard this comment 🙄 jungle did not evolve from garage, and jungle was already developed as a genre by 1995. Jungle came from ragga, the Jamaican elements were dropped and darker tones and melodies were adopted. Dnb was room two in the late 90s, with happy hardcore dominating main stage. 97 98 99 is when drum n bass took precedence. Grime came from dnb and U.K. hip hop much later.
