Looks like a color-safe detergent. Dawn dish soap (the real, blue stuff) is good to wash out tie dye, it doesn't trouble the colors at all.

Could you do this same sort of thing but with the lightening bolt zigzagging diagonally down and across the body from the shoulder? You could still blend it into fire on either side, or something else like more deep blue and deep purple and then into black like it is streaking across a dark sky. Love your work! Is the Soda Ash worth it? I have done the die with my kids from the Michael's kits and they turned out quite vibrant and lasted years through many washes....wish I knew about these intricate folds and nice color blends that you do back then.

You can use Synthrapol or blue Dawn. You can put the shirt in a bag but it is not necessary in order to cure the shirt after dyeing.
