Dear God. I've been a violinist for ten years, I sporadically dick around with mandolins, and that finger-work had my eyes watering. Very nicely done. And great tune!

I also bought on last year, listening to this guy is mesmerizing. My brother back in the day was a musician played all the string instruments. Every friday he and his buds would get together in the basement (I was 9 at the time) But wow free concert of bluegrass for the family, good times. saying that statement I flashed on the lies and mess that politicians are dictating about. What happened to the Constitution ?

This tune is meant to.be played FAST! And by fast, that means aa fast as humanly possible. To learn it, one must start out slowly til each note is under those fingers COLD. Practice it with a metronome. The secret, in my opinion, is to play it for half an hour at a comfortable tempo. Then kick it up for a least 15 minutes. Then kick it up again. Take a break for an hour or two. Then start it slowly for a bit. Any player can tell you it takes concentration to play it fast. To play it really fast takes super concentration. Thankfully it's a simple tune. Good luck, my friends, and have fun with this one. It's a good 'un.

The time- keeping of this piece is amazing. While all those ( to me ) ridiculously fast single note passages are happening, the overall tempo stays balanced. As a newcomer to mandolin playing, I find your piece super high quality!

I've been getting requests for tabs... sorry to disappoint but there wasn't any. The variations were worked out a bit in advance (at least the positions and the first few notes) but much of it was improvised using my experience with playing in different positions up the neck. If I was to play this again it would come out differently... Thanks for listening to my stuff!

Bob Grant has a book with CD that has a version of this tune. It's meant to be played as fast as humanly possible. It has tabs and notation in the book along with other classic bluegrass greats in 4 major keys. Worth checking out to get a solid bunch of fun tunes under your fingers. I started with this book and have gone on to other tunes from various sources. A good way to start picking and learning to play other tunes by ear. It just takes a bit of time and lots of practice. Good luck all you flat pickers -- the mandolin is gawd's favorite instrument, as you will discover. If you like to play a fiddle, you will absolutely love playing a mando. 💖😃😁
@robertshorthill41533 жыл бұрын
As a bit of an aside to Bob Grant's book, he explains a wee bit of musical theory as it applies to note values, timing, etc and explains pick strokes and how they function within a tune. A good thing to procure for learning basics of mandolin.

Are you playing so close to the bridge on purpose? I can't help but feel you would get so much more sound out of your mando if you played closer to the fingerboard.
@Stuche519 жыл бұрын
Of course playing over the fingerboard is the sweetest spot when it comes to the tone produced, but on a fast tune like this, I find that the stiff action towards the bridge really makes it easier to play faster. On this mandolin and with the thick pick I use volume is not compromised at all.
@holliswilliams76616 жыл бұрын
It's so he steady his hand on the bridge to do the fast picking, if you play a stringed instrument it doesn't make that much difference.
